The thing about Mike Okuda is that he's pretty active on social media and for most of Discovery and Picard, he avoided saying much of anything outside of pointing out some cool FX or such.
To see him talking about how good S3 of Picard is looking is really telling me that it's good enough for him to break his self-imposed silence.

As disappointing as those two seasons were I'm reading the NY Times interview with the cast and it brings a huge smile to my face. I'm hoping they can recapture the magic this time around. Really looking forward to it.

Bill Hunt on The Digital Bits says season 3 is fantastic. The best Star Trek in over 20 years.
and Hunt isn't shilling or being hyperbolic. He said seasons 1 and 2 were dreadful.
The 1st episode drops at 3am ET/12am PT

I have high hopes but ever since The Last Jedi I've been really leery about The best since_____, kind of hype.
Plus, better then Strange New Worlds? That was a pretty incredible season of Star Trek.

I thought it was great. Solid start. Felt like a mini Star Trek TNG movie. Good to see Will and Beverly back. I’m sure the rest of the cast will slowly come back. This actually felt like the most Star Trek episode of the entire Picard series and it had a little Blade Runner element too. They were actually in space!
Some interesting elements. The big terrorist attack that Raffi tried to stop and now that other ship hunting Crusher’s ship.
at the intro to Geordi’s daughter. Crash LeForge with Riker giving her shit.
The closing credits with the TNG theme was a nice touch. That was very movie like. Can’t wait for next week.

I liked what I saw, but it felt like it was all set-up, like an extended teaser for an episode.

Is there anything I would need to know (or a recap I can watch) from season 2 to understand what's happening in 3? Watched 1, never got around to 2 with all the negative reviews.

That's good to hear. Now I won't have to explain whatever recap I would have watched to my wife.

That was fun. I could watch Riker and Picard going back and forth all day. Weird that Seven would just completely abandon her career, though. I understand her struggle, so maybe she is hoping for some of that TNG magic where you do the wrong shit but don't ever seem to be held accountable.
With the Janeway name drop, we gonna get an appearance from her?

This was just ok. Wasn’t even going to watch but my sub is still active for 1923.
This could easily go as bad as the last 2 seasons. They both had some promise in the first episode too.
I LOL’d when Beverly’s rifle audibly announced it was out of power. The enemy must love that feature.
I don’t recall that being done before. It’s like they think we’re too stupid to figure out her rifle not working by just using visual or sound cues.
Captain Asshole of the Titan was amusing.

For those who didn't know. The "For Annie" in the credits was to honor the late Annie Wersching, who played the Borg Queen in season 2. If you didn't know, she died from cancer a few weeks ago.

So they featured a statue of Captain Rachael Garrett. I wonder if they are going to connect this season to "Yesterday's Enterprise" in some way. Perhaps Captain Garrett never died and was a POW and now resents Picard for what his alternate universe counter part did or failed to do during that episode. If they connect the show to Yesterday's Enterprise, it also gives them an excuse to have Denise Crosby back. I can't imagine she won't appear in some way this season.
Picard and Riker go on board the Titan somewhere near Earth and in just a few hours while the Captain is asleep they can get all the way to the edge of Federation space; even when most of the day they would have been heading in the opposite direction. So, just about any Starfleet ship should be able to get anywhere they want in the Federation within two days. At that speed. they should be well beyond Federation space in four days and have the galaxy explored in very little time at all.

The only thing that sorta' connects to the last season is Raffi saying her girlfriend left her. In Season 2 Raffi and Seven are a couple. Of course, that could be part of Raffi's ruse but, anyway, the only thing I caught that linked to last season.

Speaking of Raffi, the episode just comes to a screeching halt when she’s involved. They could have just written her character off for this season. “Raffi died on her way back to the Federation”.

Also didn't Picard and Laris finally get together by the end of last season?

Oh, that's right, she did. It's been a while since I've seen the episode. Still, I wonder if that episode plays some part in the overall season. It may have just been a small easter egg homage to that episode, but it could be foreshadowing something that will be revealed later. If they are going to try and sneak in Denise Crosby into this season in some way, Yesterday's enterprise would be the best way to do that.

P.S. I love the TNG crew and I think I'm going to enjoy the hell out of this season.
