One of the best shows in a long while but I can't really recall the details of too many skits a few days later. I was wondering who she was but instantly recognized her from Nope. Its funny that CNN has not one but two stories about her revealing her pregnancy on their app. LOL slow news week?

I can't imagine bigger news . . . unless somehow Hershel Walker was the baby daddy.

Well I know who she is and Nope but I would not consider her a name or face "most people recognize" I know I've seen her in other stuff but she is not all that to me.

The ep was pretty good. Keke is a truly talented actress and can do it all.

Bottom line...Keke Palmer, like many popular Black Artists, is not an immediately recognizable name or face in the larger white audience. Dvdtalk is mostly made up of Middle Aged White CisHet Males and Middle Aged White CisHet Male adjacent members. So It's understandable if only a few know of her and how big she actually is. It is what it is...

I was absolutely referring to Keke Palmer. Now, it's up to the rest of you to decide if I was serious or facetious.
This is correct.
Not even famous enough at DVD Talk for members to be aware that she was the subject of a "Why isn't she more famous?" debate.

Re: SNL 12/03/22 (S48E06) — H: Keke Palmer - MG: Sza
Let's be clear..She IS famous/well known outside of the White DVDTALK Bubble. She was a child actor who had a lead role in a popular film and has been successful since...
Who is Keke Palmer? What is the SNL host famous for?
Shortly after that she released her debut studio album, ‘So Uncool’, in 2007 on Atlantic Records.
She then began a long-running working relationship with Nickelodeon. She played a number a major roles for the channel’s children’s output, such as the title character in True Jackson VP (2008-2011).
Palmer made the move to more mature roles after turning 18 and starred in Fox’s satirical horror series Scream Queens (2015–2016) and Epix drama series Berlin Station (2017–2019).
More recently she has played major role in Hustlers (2019) and Nope (2022), directed by Jordan Peele.
She has been recognised with a number of awards during her acting career and picked up multiple prizes as a child actor. She won five awards at the NAACP Image Awards for her work on Akeelah and the Bee and True Jackson, VP.
Perhaps most notably, earlier this year she won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series. She won the award for her ‘one-woman-show’ entitled Keke Palmer’s Turnt Up with the Taylors.

There is just so much shit going on with music and tv (broadcast, cable, streaming) and movies and reality programming and sports and influencer culture that it's really impossible for any individual to keep up with it all.
There are tons of things out there that people seem to gush over -- like It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Parks & Rec, The Office, Arrested Development, the list is long -- that I've never watched because I just don't have the time to dedicate to new tv shows. There just aren't enough hours in the day.
There are usually at least three or four SNL hosts per season where I have no idea who they are. When it comes to the musical guests, half of the time I've never even heard of them.

Starred in a movie at 13, made a record at 14. Starred in a Nickelodeon TV show. Turned 18. Parts in movies, not starring roles. Some failed TV series. She had a daytime talk show. She won an Emmy for web content.
In 2022, she starred in Nope and hosted Password on NBC during the summer.
I am an old white man, and I know who she is, but I don't blame anyone for not recognizing her.

Basically, if you were an adult on Sept 11, 2001, you can be excused for not knowing who she is by name or sight. She has never in her life been THE STAR of something (aimed at adults) that can be called a big, mainstream success.

Yeah but if she were young hot White Girl all that would be considered a big deal. There are young hot white actresses who've done way LESS and are MORE well known to the general public...
Fair enough, and I'm also not blaming anyone for not knowing her. I get it. I just have a pretty good idea of what White people pay attention too when it comes to this stuff. We have seen for years how its easy for brilliant Non-White actors and actresses to fly under White Pop Culture-Radar for a long time until something changes that and draws their attention. Right now for Keke, both NOPE and this SNL appearance in particular, are exposing her to the larger white audiences. This is a good thing, and why she is on SNL.

This particular line of discussion started because someone commented on CNN noting her pregnancy reveal as big news. Imagine if Florence Pugh was hosting and flashed a surprise baby bump.

I asked for 5 Arby's Melts with no Cheese Sauce and they sure... so I got 5 Regular Roast Beef for $12.99 (or $2.50 a piece).

The Arby's sketch was good.
I guess generically that might be the case.
For me, I'm terrible with names, and it just gets worse as I get older. I'm more of a TV guy (than movie guy), and I don't know most (probably vast majority of) names of actors/actresses under the age of 40 in shows I watch. Mainly because there is no such thing as opening TV cast credits now (and if it's a streaming show, you can skip the opening credits). Doesn't matter what race they are.
