House of the Dragon (S1E10) -- Season Finale -- "The Black Queen" -- 10/23/22
This is the finale and from what I heard biggest episode of the season.
I'm aware that there are some leaks out there. I shouldn't have to say this, but just a reminder out of respect to others here. Don't be that guy who has to post spoilers!! Don't post any kind of spoilers until after the episode airs at 9pm ET I know some of you here don't give a shit and love to read spoilers and it's tempting to brag about it. Like, "I just about the leak at reddit and can't believe what is going to happen" and then post a link with a spoiler tag.
Just don't.
Thanks
Season 2 is expected in 2024

Well that scene was nastier than any horror movie I've watched this month.

Liked the scene where she was crowned Queen with Viserys crown.
They should have had the whole scene from the book at Storm’s End when Borros’ daughter asks Aemond if Luc took his balls as well as his eye. Though I don’t get why they made it an accident when killing Luc is clearly in Aemond’s character and in the book it was clearly intentional.
Dameon claiming Vermithor is a pretty big change from Martin’s world, I understand why they did it, and would allow someone to claim Seasmoke with Laenor still alive.
Looks like we’ll get to see Winterfell again next season with Jace going there.

This episode felt like it was 30 mins long. I liked the season and look forward to season 2.

Was rewatching The Crown earlier today too. So Matt Smith bent the knee to the Queen twice in a day

The princess was pregnant? Was that even mentioned in the last episode? I don't remember any talk about that in the show or online.
I love how Daemon assumed his corpse-like brother's death had to be due to murder.

Everyone and their mother knew what was going to happen once they showed big Khaju Vaegar in the rain and lightning, but man was that effective. Great casting of Luke too, really gave the extra push for everyone to say "F the Greens." Like seriously, you have to be contrarian or a troll to support them, the show does everything it can to push you to one side. Especially now that Rhaenyra was basically "hey, the security of the realm is paramount" and Alicent, for all her confusion, is "my son deserves to be in power."
I did like that Aemond (and Luke before him) lost control of his dragon and didn't really want to kill Luke, just scare him, and you see that in his face after it happens. Of course he's going to own it but man.
The turnaround of Corlys and Rhaeny's positions and reasoning was amazing. Also I forgive her for not toasting team Green last episode, that was as valid an explanation as any ( and I like that she didn't "bend the knee" until talking with Corlys (and convincing him). Though realistically if I thought she murdered my son, not sure I'd be that eager to support her, but the whole time while they were debating I was like "how the heck can you stay out of this when your grandkids are directly involved" so I'm glad they addressed that.
Otto is kind of an idiot for going himself to deliver messages to Dragonstone every time, but he's 2 for 2 for surviving I guess.
I really didn't need to see that birth but I get it's a parallel to the first episode.
I wonder how long until certain people complain about the wokeness of this episode and how the men are warlike and the woman was even keeled.
It was still one gigantic prologue and crap really hits the fan next season. So how long do we have to wait?

I am enthralled by this show, perhaps even more than GoT. I absolutely love the non-action slow burn scenes... this show has been a total pleasant surprise. I had such distaste for how GoT ended I really had no desire or plan to watch it. glad I did.
Rhys Ifans is fantastic in this, btw.

Post-finale interview with Ryan Condal in Variety.
They won't start shooting season 2 until early next year.

Oh well... so similar wait for Rings of Power. Hopefully they space them out next time.
At first I thought that Baratheon had the Maester read the letter because of protocol or something, but it's really because he can't read, isn't it.

I love this series. That Finale was good. I hated the ending but I get it. Frankly, I'm team Rhaenys over both Black and Green. She is mature, level headed, wise, has vision, looks badass in her armor, and on her Dragon.

Her claim to the throne is done and gone, though. Your support of Princess Rhaenys has you conscripted for Team Black...

Rhaenys was a boss... not kneeling or clapping.

I think Laenor will be back next season in some manner. Aemond had a look last episode when Aegon mentioned wanting to hide and sail away and escape his coronation. Maybe Aemond will capture Laenor and bring him back as a hostage to force Corlys/Rhaenys to switch sides. I just don’t think that subplot would be a loose end like that.

Spoiler:
However, even if Laenor were to come into the picture, their grandkids are all on one side so switching sides wouldn't be trivial.

I've seen many comments like this, wondering why Rhaenys didn't bend the knee until talking with Corlys. The simple answer is that her bending the knee is meaningless since she is not the head of the house, since Corlys is still alive. Also, I've others saying why did Rhynara send her kids to offer alliances instead of regular messengers. If you were going to war and seeking alliances, would you send a regular messenger or a member of your House?
