The English (Amazon) S: Emily Blunt - premieres 11/11/22
An epic chase Western, The English takes the core themes of identity and revenge to tell a uniquely compelling parable on race, power, and love. An aristocratic Englishwoman, Lady Cornelia Locke, and a Pawnee ex-cavalry scout, Eli Whipp, come together in 1890 middle America to cross a violent landscape built on dreams and blood. Both of them have a clear sense of their destiny, but neither is aware that it is rooted in a shared past. They must face increasingly terrifying obstacles that will test them to their limits, physically and psychologically. But as each obstacle is overcome, it draws them closer to their ultimate destination—the new town of Hoxem, Wyoming. It is here, after an investigation by the local sheriff Robert Marshall and young widow Martha Myers into a series of bizarre and macabre unsolved murders, that the full extent of their intertwined history will be truly understood, and they will come face-to-face with the future they must live.

This should be up on Amazon later tonight. It looks like they'll drop all 6 episodes at once.

The HDR and color grading on this is gorgeous. There are shots that look like they could be paintings.

Yeah, it was a terrific. That cinematography, though! I read something that they actually filmed all of that during natural sunsrise/sunsets instead of using filters or day for night/night for day.

Loving this show as well, so far. It tonally shifts a bit too much with multiple plots but it's such an original and clever premise.
Amazon's been pumping out some awesome series as of late. Love "The Peripheral" as well. Kudos.

I usually see Rafe Spall in roles that are squares. He is wild here.

I have 2 episodes left and this is fantastic. Best western since Django Unchained, but this is more Leone than Tarantino. A slow burn that expertly mixes beauty and savagery. Acting, script, cinematography are top notch. Highly recommended.

I always laughed at the night filters they used for old Westerns, with their sharply defined shadows even though it's supposed to be night.

This is quite a good little Western yarn. Nice revenge mini movie. Not finished yet, but off to an amazing start. Cinematography to die for and such great, authentic dialogue. Great stuff. I half expected Krasinski to be involved too.

Up in Maine where there is no light pollution I have seen shockingly vivid shadows with a full moon at the correct angle. That said even today I sometimes see TV shows and movies obviously filmed during the day and scratch my head wondering how the producers and director let it air.

Finished this tonight. Wow. Beautifully shot. Wonderfully acted.
I didn't see the story going that way either... but it made sense.
I went into this thinking it was the first season of a series... and was sorta disappointed. I'd watch more.

Gonna bump this. I've only watched 3 of the 6 episodes, so no comments on the plot.
But if you are looking for shows to watch as the strike has wiped out the usual fall premieres, and you missed this last year, I recommend it. Tense, excellently produced, serious drama.
Among everything else, it is a great reminder of Emily Blunt's range as an actress.
