It was tastefully done (with special effort from the female director) but I can see why people were put off: not just the incest part but the character herself was like 15 just a couple of episodes ago and despite the timeskips they didn't really do much to age her up (contrast that to Alicent). I mean she's mistaken for a boy right before that. So visually, I can see why people might cringe.

I thought it was sort of interesting to see a woman take charge of her sexuality the way she did in this episode which is rare for fantasy and sort of for GOT in general.

Am I misremembering the boy being Hightowers source and later going back to Daemon's lady? Meaning there was a connection there?

The boy was Otto's source, they reveal he's working for someone called the White Worm, and then he comes and gives Mysaria the money that Otto gave him, implying that she is the White Worm and has become something like Varys was in GoT, or at the very least a source for Otto. She doesn't seem to be aligned with Daemon any more, though, so her doing that is her gig now and not being Daemon's mistress. Which is why I said if anything having her as a source is more to keep tabs on Daemon, Otto didn't hire her on the off chance that Rhaenyra made it all the way to the brothel.
