Did I see a "giant-sized" Man-Thing in that trailer?

I am guessing this is supposed to be something the characters in the MCU would have watched for Halloween, i.e. a universe within a universe?

Hard to say, just based on the trailer. I'd say the appearance of Man-Thing suggests no, though, but the only way to know for sure is to watch the movie. There may be another trailer between no the October 8 that'll make things clearer.

This as a surprise screening at Fantastic Fest last night. There are some reviews on RT: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/wer...ometer-reviews
I've also seen some mixed Twitter reviews.

This was fun... pretty bloody and violent (though muted in B&W).
I know GotG is upcoming, but I hope they continue to do holiday specials annually.

This was fucking badass! After one mediocre offering after another they finally got it right. I wish it were feature length. Great directorial debut by Michael Giacchino who also composed the score, which also rocked. It has a very Tales from the Crypt vibe, so much so that I am about fire up the DVDs and watch a couple of episodes of that.

Several issues of Chris Claremont’s 11 issue Man Thing comics from a quarter bin (the cover price was crossed out in pen or marker showing it was a quarter bin comic) were literally some of the first comics I ever purchased when I got into comics around 1981/1982, when I was in the 4th or 5th grade. Of all the comics I have sold over the years I made sure to keep them in my collection.
As you can imagine, I had a huge smile on my face since Man-Thing was such an important character in this special. Just wonderful, and seeing those who show fear burn was quite cool.

Wow, this was a complete surprise. I didn't watch the trailer, so I had no idea it would be a B&W Universal homage thing. Nice sets and look, and was surprisingly violent. Loved Man-Thing. Hope we see more stuff like this in the future.

This stylistically reminds me of the sci-fi parody The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra, if anyone remembers the use of b/w as a throwback to 50s/60s movies.

I believe there was a Supernatural episode in b/w that imitated old Universal horror. I remember Dean in liederhosen at an Oktoberfest.

Really enjoyed this special. It worked perfectly for the season and they made a good decision making it as more or less a short film than something blown up for its own sake. After the viewing I guess this kind of takes place in its own little corner of the MCU. I hope we haven't seen the last of Ted/Man-Thing, he was a fun character. I seem to remember the Man-Thing design being plugged into Marvel comics whenever they needed a random creature to appear, so he really worked in that regard.

This was excellent. Loved the aesthetic, the story, the actors. Short but sweet. I was on edge of seat the entire time.
So, what is this just a one off? Isn’t based on a comic book series? Are we gonna get more?
