Whip My Hair girl? When did she drop the Smith? Can't say I blame her.

IDK what the term is held to mean nowadays, but Willow is considered an alternative music artist

Ugh, new season is off to a good start guest-wise.

Same here. Was glad to find out he's a rabid anti-vaxxer. I hate when someone who's work I actually like turns out to be a dingbat in real life, but it's great when it's someone I already ignore anyway.

The second-lead in the biggest movie in years? That sounds okay to me.

I honestly had to google to see who you were talking about. I've never heard of the actor and have zero interest in the Top Gun movies. If that makes me out of touch, so be it.

I've noticed this is kind of a go-to move for you, to get into a thread and claim no awareness of something very popular with a bit of a self-righteous tone attached.

The 3 hosts really suck. Nobody wants to see Miles Teller. Heís not a very likable actor. They been trying to make him a star for a long time.

The other two are just shit.

So is the idea that SNL hosts should only be proven comedic performers? Because I'm not sure what the Venn diagram is that denies the cultural currency of both Gleeson and Stallion.

I don't think "cultural currency" has anything to do with the customer watching SNL at 11:30pm EST on Saturday night. Megan Thee Stallion is not likely on anybody's radar who is at home watching TV at that time.

Interesting. Because of the 3 hosts, MTS is by far the most famous and likely to draw eyeballs to the show. And "cultural currency" may not increase viewership, it is definitely (and always has been) a factor in host selection.

At this point in time, I am not certain how much overall interest the producers of SNL have in creating buzz that will lure viewers to the live broadcast. I am not saying they don't want it, but I also don't think they want to put much effort into it. I think the people that are inclined to be watching SNL when it airs live on Saturday night are the people who do so no matter who is hosting.

Also, SNL airs live in primetime on the west coast.

I didn't know who any of those people were by name until I looked them up. And then Miles is the only one I know anything about. I do know who Christina Perri is though!

Just not my wheelhouse of peeps.

Re: "Saturday Night Live" Pre-season Chat: The 48th Season (2022-2023)

Yea, I'm not sure how someone can populate a movie/tv forum and not know who Miles Teller or Brendan Gleeson are. I did wonder why Gleeson was chosen as I haven't heard him in anything big in the last year. Looked it up and he is in a new movie called The Banshees of Inisherin and a tv series called State of the Union, not sure which of those two got him the spot on the show but I assume State of the Union as it is up for an Emmy.

Musical guest always tend to appeal to a younger crowd. Kendrik Lamar is one of the biggest rappers out right now, so anyone under 35 is going to know him. Willow had a song that was huge on tik tok which I imagine got her on, but then again I'm surprised they wanted a Smith. Megan the Stallion is also huge right now and has a large personality which is why she probably was chosen to host as well.

MTS appeared on She Hulk for like one minute and it totally blew up my Twitter timeline. Sheís a huge music star and icon right now, even if she doesnít appeal to me much at all. It would be hard to follow popular culture and not know who she was.

The hardcore are going to watch no matter what. But maybe they get some trending youtube clip out of it or something.

.
The Banshees of Inisherin pairs Gleeson and Colin Farrell in another film by Martin McDonagh, the same trio who made the greatly acclaimed 2008 movie In Bruges.
Banshees
is already highly acclaimed itself and opens in theaters October 21.

It would be a shame if nobody knew who Brendan Gleeson was in 2022

One of the more underrated great actors with a career that spans decades.

I know all the hosts and guest so I guess I have not reached the grumpy Clint Eastwood stage yet.

I assume Willow will be bald for that performance.

You would almost think Gleeson hosting is all just a ploy to promote his new movie. There's a first time for everything, I guess.
