This series had SO MUCH POTENTIAL as S1 was excellent...but it lost its way in S2, S3 was a convoluted mess and I cannot comment on S4 yet. It's a real shame the writers couldn't have made the show a bit easier to follow and less full of itself.

re: Westworld (S4E08) Surprise Series Finale - LEAVING HBOMAX - "Que Será, Será" 8/14/22

Season 4 was really good and is nearly on par with the first season. It gave me hope that they could really bring this back strong for a fifth and potentially final season.
Spoiler:
The ending of season 4 could be considered a loop into season 1 that more or less never ends going 1-4 repeating endlessly. I'm glad there was no real cliffhanger and the series is pretty much wrapped up the way they left it.

You can argue did man survive and repopulated the earth and I feel that humanity is tenacious enough to find a way to farm and survive in small numbers until they regain some technology to allow for population growth and such, There is nothing to indicate that women are barren so I sort of doubt Bernards assertion that people will die off unless they were being actively hunted down. Simulations don't account for the strength of our survival instinct and insight and that we have gained since we stopped being nomads. I would hazard a guess that anyone reading these words has a rudimentary knowledge of growing stuff from seed etc. Sure a lot of people are not cut out for a dire world but I would suppose that the people left in the end game so to speak are a bit more resilient than the general population.

This series is being removed from HBO Max.

So finish up if you haven't.

Will it still be available to HBO subscribers though?

The article mentioned it migrating to another streaming service. Maybe it'll go to Netflix and reach more people. Can't be mad about that.

It's probably going to a free with ads service. That's far less good than the current situation for those who pay for HBO Max.

The Nevers, Raised by Wolves and The Time Travelers Wife are likely headed the ad-supported free streaming route as well.

Guess I need to download these now. Willing to pay to have high quality ad free versions on a streaming service. I am not going to watch them on a fucking free ad ridden service. I don't know how anyone watches these types of services.

I feel zero guilt either since if they will not provide me with the option to pay for it, then I will get it other ways.

Rather than downloading a pirated version, you can get a commercial free season 4 from Amazon

Amazon Amazon

It's $23. At least you'll be supporting the content creators than just giving a middle finger to HBO.

I should have been more clear. I meant The Nevers part 2 of season 1. Part 1 is not currently available to buy on Amazon Prime btw.

Don't care about Westworld. But I appreciate the link regardless.

Thanks

Okay, I see you were just reacting off the last post. Rich should have actually posted that in the HBO Max thread where most of the discussion is about shows getting pulled. This thread is really just about Westworld, which was a very high profile show, getting pulled off HBO Max and cost a fortune to make.

Any chance that season 4 won't get a 4K UHD BD set, despite the previous seasons getting released that way?

I don't understand why they just don't leave it and other shows on their channel while they pimp the shows out to other services to keep their subscribers happy.

I just recently subscribed to HBO Max due to a special sale and WestWorld was on my list to watch. I saw the first season way back when it first came out but had to dump HBO after that and never saw the new seasons.

I sure as fuck am not going to watch it on the streaming stations that have commercials.

I assume because it costs them money to keep them whereas whatever deal they make with someone else will at least cover the costs of that. They are in extreme cost cutting mode

re: Westworld (S4E08) - Series Finale - "Que Será, Será" 8/14/22

Due to SAG, DGA, PGA unions, it costs studios money to keep movies and TV shows up on their services because they have to continuously pay residuals. People assume that since the shows and movies are shot and paid for, they should stay up for perpetuity. However, Discovery is trying to cut billions in debt they inherited from AT&T and they are looking at shows and movies HBO Max is hosting that apparently no one is watching anymore and trying to dump them to trim revolving debt. They lost hundreds of millions in 2021 from the stupid day and date experiment from AT&T. Westworld is a victim now because they think no one is watching it anymore.

Don’t forget the pay or play contracts AT&T happily offered. Thus 20 million is gone despite trying to save money cancelling a show that lost viewership over time.

Has it been reported the specific date all of these shows are leaving HBO Max?

Yes, the app shows all these shows as "Leaving 12/18", so they should be there Sunday and gone Monday.
