Funny, I thought something similar. In the grand scheme, the storyline is somewhat trivial and may not have needed several minutes of airtime to play out on screen, but serves both as a send-off for Lyle and a reminder of how meticulous Gus is.

I still wonder why Lalo let Kim go instead of Jimmy. If his plan is to use the Goodmans as a secondary diversion while he goes to the Superlab, then sending Jimmy makes a lot more sense. There's a good chance if Kim actually goes to Gus' place, they wouldn't know who she was and would just kill her without making the Jimmy connection. I suppose you can explain away that Lalo knows that Mike would know who she was, but it would have made a lot more sense to insist that Jimmy go.

I actually forgot all about that. But the whole thing, even with that, makes it seem like he had some kind of magic time crystal-ball.

Why exactly did Gus hide the gun down there? He's always been one step ahead of Lalo, bugging the nursing home, etc. Did the writers feel like he just had this weird sense that he might need it for some odd scenario?
That was what we felt like. When we were talking about it, it's like, "Okay, Mike's going to want to give Gus a gun for self-defense." But we also kind of thought, "In what world is Gus going to have a gun concealed on his ankle and be able to get to it if Lao has gotten through all his other guards?" If Lalo's done all of this — like he does, he gets through all of Gus' men, mows them down like a field of wheat — is Gus going to drop and roll and pull a gun out and shoot him? That's not Gus' style. It's not his forte. It's not where his strengths lay. But where his strengths lay are in being kind of weirdly prepared for contingencies that nobody else would be prepared for. So I think him putting it there is just — there's a chance that this all ends here. This is the thing that Lalo wants most.

I do have an issue with what I think was the gun being placed directly on the tracks of the excavator. What if someone had to dig a hole? I don't think it's SOP to check for guns before moving equipment.

To me this episode had the inherent flaw of this being a prequel series. There was no suspense in the Lalo/Gus scene for me because we already know when and how Gus dies. So at a certain point it pretty much meant Lalo had to die.
I did like how Mike already knows all of the bull shit that Jimmy and Kim have been running on Howard. And I liked his disdain about it. Mike is really the only character left who has a code.

Sure they'll give the moment of Kim & Jimmy meeting up again. But there is going to be consequences. I think more likely than not Jimmy finds his way back to her but seconds after their embrace he is made. He either gets captured and spends life in prison. Or he's killed in a police shootout trying to apprehend him. You get that sweet moment of them reuniting. But you immediately get the tragic ending of Jimmy dying in her arms or something like that.
I would put A LOT of money on this not having some sweet heartwarming ending. That's just not how this universe has ever worked. You might get a glimmer of heartwarming, but the conclusion is going to be heartbreak.

My biggest question is how did they get the machine down there and how do they get it out.

Amazon Prime is selling BCS Season 6 for $9.99 for Prime members. If you want to keep it in digital format, that's a great price.

I am happy that the over the top Lalo 'Terminator" story line is over and we can get back to the main story at hand.

Thanks for the heads up. I’ve been using the AMC app with provider credentials from my mom’s cable service but the quality through their app is so shitty I’m happy to pay $10 to see the final episodes in decent quality.

And, as expected, Mike didn't let them know that Lalo was dead. So, as far as Saul is concerned, Lalo could still resurface at any time. Might have been a nice gesture if Mike said "He's dead. I buried the body myself," but he would never come out and say that to anyone who didn't need to know.

He's been told Lalo is dead. But he's been told that before and Lalo still came back to terrorize him.. So he has every right to be dubious.

Or, Saul could could think that Lalo built in redundancy and back-up, in the event he never returned. He knows the Cartel is a large organization, so why would he assume Lalo is a lone wolf?
