The series should've started here with Part V.

When Reva and the storm troopers breach the outpost and then go into full battle mode was one of the sloppiest battle sequences I've seen in quite a while. All that constant camera movement and camera shaking turned into a mishmash of strung together shots of characters shooting and some of them maybe dying? Storm troopers, yes. Others, maybe? Except Tala Durith...
When Tala Durith sets off the suicide bomb, I was sure that Reva was right in the immediate vicinity to get hit with the blast, but nope--she was leading the battle, but suddenly wasn't leading it. A bomb blast wouldn't hurt her anyway because a light saber thrust right through the guts doesn't kill her either. (I thought that when Vader had both light sabers he was going to decapitate Reva like Count Dooku...but that would probably be too grisly for a Disney TV show.)
Seems like everybody is finding out that Luke is on Tatoonie and Leia is Vader's daughter. Except Darth Vader who remains clueless about his kids.

It was a much better episode than E04, but I don't like what they're doing with this whole story still. It could've been so much better. Go on, have at me, but....

Such a great episode. Vader having a saber battle with just force push was amazing. Loved the prequel scene also.
Hayden is playing a great rage fueled Vader.

I feel like a broken record at this point....
34 minutes after intros and credits.
It's funny, when I saw the Obi-Wan banner on D+ I thought it was a shot of Vader from Rogue One. I wondered "why are they using that, it looks terrible." Nope, that's from the episode! The lighting on Vader was just bad in that scene. Has anyone on this crew seen the OT or give a damn about it? The answer seems pretty obvious at this point.
Opening flashback..."Wow, Ok...don't know why they didn't use this last episode, but here we go!" Nope, not even a full scene, just a gimmick to use for the episode. A crutch to try and mask over the episode's shortcomings....there's your flashback scene suckers! Everyone would've been happy with just a full scene of them talking, that's all they had to do.
It was mentioned, but for the life of me I couldn't follow what was even happening during the stormtrooper assault.
The music - it would be better if it was just bland background noise, but it's worse...it's distractingly bad. Honest to God, just play the hits....literally just play the original themes, it would be 100% better.
Thankfully I only have one more Wednesday morning of disappointment to go.
A final note - would've been a nice touch if Obi-Wan had instead said "you'll always be the learner."

It was a much better episode than 4. Probably the best since episode 1. Vader demonstrating supreme force power abilities in combat and with that ship was cool....much better than Rey doing that after just a week.
All the nitpicking aside, arguments about silly things that do exist in the movies too...I still believe this series is a big letdown story-telling-wise. It's been pretty bland, creatively bereft, what the actual story is, the plot from episode to episode. It's just continual chase and rescue every episode. I think they erred having Vader and Obi fight so early. It should've been something that gradually built up to an ultimate showdown together in the last scene of the entire series.

Re: Obi-Wan Kenobi (S1E05) - "Part V" - 6/15/22
I would (force) push back on this - my criticisms aren't lore or story, it's what should be foundational aspects of filmmaking. Things I never imagined I would have issues with here, that's why this has been so painful. There isn't a fraction of the movies quality (OT or prequels) in here at all. Other than a handful of scenes in Ep1, there hasn't been any since that has not left me confused, bewildered...and wondering how professionals (who are well paid) can look at this and think it's acceptable.
We all know what Star Wars is. It's not Star Trek, The Expanse, Babylon 5. Most people liked episode 5 and didn't like episode 4. Why? There's obviously a kind of standard that we all seek. A section of fans will make it seem like those who complain about the show are wrong/bad to have had expectations or standards, when everyone obviously did ep4 to ep5 (for example). It's just entertainment but we just wish it were better, something actually interesting as a story, the characters, the intrigues, twists and turns, etc.

I watched 'From the Desert comes a Stranger' again, just to cleanse my soul. My favorite SW content since the OT. I harp on the runtime, and that episode is only 40min...but you feel completely satisfied. That's the thing...just good storytelling. There's barely any action... just characters and scenes that hold your attention. That's all I'm looking for.

They could've kicked off everything with that flashback and Vader's pursuit of Kenobi and then used the rest of the series as a flashback of how we got there.

I'm really enjoying this series, much more than Boba. My only issue is that I just keep waiting for Leia to be mind wiped and that's taking me out of the show a bit.
"General Kenobi, you fought with my father during the Clone War....and rescued me from several kidnappings all while I allowed the upstart Rebellion to escape Darth Vader."

O M G Little Leia was so cute again in ep5, she rocks, her supreme tech abilities to the rescue, yay for the children and little girls around the world.
Reva is so cool. She stands there and is so convincing as a bossy person, she has such anger in her, every moment of her yelling at everyone is so gratifying.
Vader rocks. He's just doing ballet moves on Reva. Such a beast.
That hustler pretending to be a Jedi...so glad we got another episode with him. So straight-man funny he is.
So sad how Tala died. I couldn't hold the tears in. Such a powerful moment in TV history.
Those ragtag bunch of women, kids and farmers really gave it to the Empire's best! Yay rebels!
How cool was that droid fighting off the Stormtroopers? Love it.
Man, I can't wait for episode 6. Every episode has been such a joy. Such great story-telling. It's been a frenetic rollercoaster ride, the never-ending chases and rescues.
I need to catch a breath because another chase and rescue in episode 6 is gonna leave me exhausted like I just did 50 minutes on a treadmill.

I didn’t like Part V at all… but if I had to chose the best parts from this dreck it would be:
1) The prequel fight between Kenobi and Anakin. A nice setup they should have used a few eps ago.
2) Vader full-force stopping the ship as it was trying to leave and smacking it down on the ground. That was great.
Less Liea was okay but more Reva was not.
Note: Alien physiology is weird (just cut off their head) and cauterized lightsaber pokes need to be full on slashes (why didn’t Qui Gon survive his?).
I’ll be surprised if next week’s episode doesn’t end in a “Memory Rub” (that’s the term used in canon and legend).
… and we’re still waiting for a Qui Gon force ghost, aren't we?
This entire series could have been so much more.

Qui-Gon, Han Solo, that Jedi fighting Palpatine in ROTS, all got impaled by a lightsaber and died instantly.
I am sure Reva is still alive and will make her way to Tatooine to help Obi stave off efforts to find Luke....or alive for a Reva spin-off.

Maybe one day they’ll talk about how Jedi who anticipate being skewered actually know an ancient technique of how to rearrange their vital organs to lessen the damage.
Qui Gon must not have been paying attention that day, or maybe Dooku just skipped that part in his training.

lol. The lightsaber gut explanations LFL have to now engage in. It's like a liar having to constantly find ways to cover up other lies.
In terms of canon stuff...
Obi-Wan's been traipsing from planet to planet across the galaxy, front and center, battling and saving communities, has had his proof of age photo ID broadcast around the galaxy. He's not only now in the Empire's Google-like database, but all the bounty-hunters on that Blade Runner planet are now aware he's alive too. And all those communities he's saved and displayed Jedi powers around are gonna spread the word like how the two little kids at the end of TLJ re-enacted Luke Skywalker's battle with Kylo only days later and across vast reaches of space.
LFL saying, "don't worry, canon is everything, and everything will fix itself end of episode 6"....They'll force-wipe Little Leia's memory for a cheap easy-out. But this whole Obi-Wan secret from ROTS and ANH is a bit wrecked. Ben Kenobi feeling like he's just seen a ghost when he hears the name Obi-Wan again. The whole Leia/Luke as Vader's kids being the galaxy's most top secret information growing more tenuous.
Reva can easily read Obi-Wan's mind and see he didn't know Anakin was alive. Vader has supreme powers of force sensitivity that he was aware all along Reva was gunning for him and Obi was gonna help her, and she now contains all this knowledge of Leia/Luke as Vader's kids and Luke on Tatooine, yet Vader can't read that. Nor Vader can read that from Obi's mind like Reva was able with Obi.

Ewan, and really the whole cast, deserve so much better than what the writers and directing team have delivered here. There are just too many stupid lines, contrivances, visual inconsistencies, poorly shot/edited scenes, etc. Outside of Jar Jar Binks and The Rise of Skywalker, I can turn my brain off and enjoy just about anything Star Wars, but I’m struggling with this series.
How so? One stuntman is in the suit when Vader’s walking around. Another stuntman is in it for fights. The voice is artificially created. So far as I know, Christensen is limited to showing up as Anakin in flashbacks and Vader’s face when the mask is off.

Re: Obi-Wan Kenobi (S1E05) - "Part V" - 6/15/22
God, such terrible writing! Bail Organa sending a transmission basically saying "Hey, haven't heard from you in a while. It sure would suck if Vader found out about the children." was too stupid to excuse. And now Vader knows Luke is on Tatooine and is going after him? Did I miss something here?
The Reva revelation was weak and the way it was shown made little sense. I mean, we saw Anakin right in front of her slashing his lightsaber -- yet she wasn't injured and just played dead? They could have just shown her hiding behind a pillar watching the massacre, yet powerless to save her fellow students. Maybe imply that she was strong enough in the Force to avoid being detected by him... which is how she's seemingly gotten this far into her plan to take him out. But no, Vader has apparently sensed her true intent the whole time. I guess the desire to find Kenobi was more important than the slim chance of possibly getting assassinated by your lead Inquisitor.
I can pretty much predict how next week will play out: Reva will use her last bit of strength to head Vader off on Tatooine (like she implausibly headed Leia off in that tunnel in the third episode). They'll do a fake out and somehow make Vader believe Luke has been killed so he'll leave and not come back. Then Vader will bump off Reva for good. Basically this show will have accomplished nothing and just be a tiresome waste of most people's time. But, good for those who are enjoying it... I guess? To each their own.
Also, Disney was being cheap by not even attempting to de-age Hayden in the flashbacks. Still a handsome guy, but he was forty when they filmed this and it shows. At least his line delivery remained consistently wooden.

Reva turning is still a cop out. A weak flip. Over 10 years she's killed plenty of Jedi, and innocent harmless villagers, and in the span of this series has killed more villagers and innocents, is even keen on torturing a little girl. Then at the snap of the script, they ask us to forgive/side with Reva because she's actually a good person, and years of murder is ok because it was just a ruse to get at Vader.
At least Kylo's flip was based on being torn between the light and the dark, a thirst for power, a love-hate with father, a love for mother and Vader, and horny for Rey.
At least Anakin's flip to the dark and then to the light was based on love for wife and love for son.
Reva is a good person happily killing good people while merely play-acting as a villain. There isn't even a logic of redemption in that arc because she never turned in the first place.

And yet...each week for the past five weeks, I've anxiously tuned in in hopes that this series would somehow get better. I'm feeling as let down as the time I first saw The Phantom Menace after being so jazzed after seeing The Phantom Menace trailers over and over again.
(When Reva succumbs, will we get the same mournful violin music that they've been using throughout this series?)
Evan McGregor is an executive producer on this show. Doesn't he have some clout to tell the Disney gods "This shit ain't good enough, people. We need some rewrites."
