I’m assuming that was Barnes that tells Chozen and Johnny about the adult classes when they walk in the dojo.

I'm predicting it now. This thread will be dead by no later than September 12th. Everyone here who watches this show here will consume it in 1-2 days.

I'm really looking forward to it and I'm glad that Thomas Ian Griffith has carried over as the villain.

Re: Cobra Kai (Netflix) -- Season 5 -- Premieres 9/9/22

Watched the first two episodes. So far, so good. Wasn’t surprised at all about how the whole Miguel looking for his father plot turned out.

And they already mentioned about the past Karate Kid villain:

Spoiler:

Mike Barnes as being a potential Sensei for Silver.

I can’t watch anymore until tomorrow night. Most likely I’ll probably finish the season late tomorrow.

The more I watch this I'm starting to realize
Spoiler:
Daniel Laruso comes off pretty crazy/paranoid and just needs to stay out everyone's fucking business. Naturally, if he did that, there would be no show.

I'm through Episode 5. I love how these writers continue to subvert expectations and surprise.

Episode 5 with an appearance from
Spoiler:
Robyn Lively was great. I really liked their connection with making her Amanda's cousin who introduced her to Daniel. And nice callback to that girl who her boyfriend cheated on her with and the reason she left Ohio.

Re: Cobra Kai (Netflix) -- Season 5 -- Premieres 9/9/22

Loved .....
Spoiler:
Chozen/ Barnes/ Silver anytime they were on screen

Didn't care for:
Spoiler:
  • The Miguel Dad subplot that basically went nowhere.
  • The CW teenage drama.
  • The whole "Lets win the tournament for Total Global Domination" plot which seemed like it was ripped straight out of the Street Fighter II lore.

Sony can't even splurge for a PS5? First season was a damn Vita, yikes.

The teen stuff is utter crap now. Straight from CW

I'm on Episode 6. Really enjoying this so far. Was great to see Jessica again, even if for only one episode. She still looks great.

Johnny and Chozen interacting is cracking me up...

JOHNNY: "Daniel tell you used to kick his ass in high school?"
CHOZEN: "I robbed him while he was on a date."
JOHNNY: "I threw him off a cliff."
CHOZEN: "I fought him to the death."
JOHNNY: "What are you? A ghost or something?"

One of the exec. producers is Will Smith and then saw Caleb Pinkett. Is this the Smith we all know and hate?

And Mike fucking Barnes!! Great stuff so far!!! Will try to finish all this weekend. Really great so far. Chozen is awesome.

It's the Will Smith we all know of. His production company bought the rights to Karate Kid for that reboot with his son and Jackie Chan. He isn't particularly involved with Cobra Kai but does get an EP credit for (Caleeb Pinkett is head of creative at that studio so he is likely more involved).

Re: Cobra Kai (Netflix) -- Season 5 -- Premieres 9/9/22

Went through the entire season tonight. I have to say I enjoyed the addition of Chozen to this season more than anything. Tory also grew on me on the likability scale. I'd be perfectly ok if the show ended here, as I can't see where the next chapter will go. A little disappointed that Daniel won the fight with Silver so easily, but using Silver's own lessons against him was genius. Robyn Lively's appearance as Amanda's cousin was a nice surprise. Plus, she got revenge o that mean girl that stole her boyfriend back in '85.

All in all, another winning season from the show, but hard to decipher where they will go from here with Silver locked up and presumably going to prison. Kreese escaped prison at the end, but Martin Kove ain't getting any younger and seems like he can barely get around anymore. Such a great show.

Re: Cobra Kai (Netflix) -- Season 5 -- Premieres 9/9/22

Just finished watching this season. The cliffhanger ending
Spoiler:
The psychologist is working inside the prison where she is having a session with Kreese. He steals her id badge that can be used to deactivate the locks on all the prison doors. She still manages to leave the prison through the doors that she would have needed her badge to unlock, yet she never noticed that her id badge was missing. If she had noticed it missing, the prison officials would have had it deactivated long before Kreese could have used it to escape.

The timeline of this is in 2019, a date when the PS5 didn't exist as consumer product, so.....

Also, while Kreese would not have realized it, he really didn't need to escape since the victim had just admitted that it was Silver and not Kreese that beat him up.

But did he know that was about to happen.

BTW I’m just playing devil’s advocate here. It’s definitely not a tightly written plot.

One other thought on the escape, if I'm recalling an earlier scene correctly. When he was first denied release, he walked through the halls and approached the psychologist. After their conversation she went to the door, used her pass and went outside. This appeared to be the same door that Kreese left through. If he and the other prisoners already had free range of that part of the interior, he didn't need to fake his death/injury to get near the door in the first place. He could have just walked up to the door at his leisure, used the stolen pass, and left. No need at all to be wheeled in and fight with the doctors and guards in the first place. Also, pretty weak prison if there's only one door that prisoners have access to that would allow them to escape should they get through said door. No fenced in yard or secondary perimeter to stop someone should they penetrate the one building door.
