Same for me. The whole season was a wonderful surprise. Iíd probably have to go back to the first season of Legion for a new show that came in and so thoroughly grabbed me.

I will say that I hope the explanation behind a lot of the weirdness is some sort of testing to determine the capabilities and limits of severance, or something else thatís not too out there. There are parts that feel borderline weird for weirdís sake instead of serving the story, but itís been so well done that Iíll happily give them the benefit of the doubt on having a cohesive plan for everything.

Favorite new show in years for me. Really engaging and fresh.

I also hope the show delivers and comes to some satisfying conclusions.

I pestered a friend until he watched. He loved it and was only slightly annoyed by the cliffhanger ending.

I thought it was a perfect place to end.

This is my expectation as well. It seems like they're a testing floor to verify how effective it is and how far they can push it before it devolves into a prisoner riot.

Severance isn't about protecting the work itself, since none of the severed we've met do any useful work. I'm not sure if the severed retain complex skills, which is a problem if you want to get rich selling severance, because the technology is tailor-made for top-secret engineering projects.

Severance also happens to hide how abusive the severed work environment is. They've straight up lied to the outie about the nature of injuries sustained while inside, for example, not to mention the most likely illegal psychological compliance measures being employed.

It's either testing the boundaries or they're not seeing what they're actually doing on those computer screens. The first makes more sense, the second is more Black Mirror/Enders Game-y.

Casting:
Severance is adding an impressive array of corporate drones to its Season 2 roster.

The new hires also include Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development), Merritt Wever (Unbelievable), Bob Balaban (The Chair), Robby Benson (the voice of Beast in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, American Dreams), ”lafur Darri ”lafsson (The Missing, NOS4A2) and relative newcomer Stefano Carranante.

I really like Noble but for some reason he does not feel like a great fit for me but we will see.

Still my favorite show this season and really looking forward to next season. Episode 1 is likely a humdinger as it was supposed to be the finale of last season. I need to rewatch it.

Show is so layered and engrossing. It is a hard season to follow up on. But likely still a year away.

Say what? Please elucidate, delaying a season finale until the next season is an odd thing to do.

From an articleThe ninth and final episode of Severanceís first season, Mark (Adam Scott), Helly (Britt Lower), and Irving (John Turturro) experienced life on the outside, with Dylan (Zach Cherry) literally stretching to ensure that their ďoutieĒ state stayed in place. And after they each have a startling revelation ó Helly, that sheís an Eagan; Irving, that his work flirt, Burt, is married; and Mark, that his wife is alive ó the switch flips back.

You can thank executive producer Ben Stiller, who Erickson says encouraged him to end the season at that moment. Originally, Erickson had one more episode planned in order to unpack what the trio found out about their life outside of work at Lumon during their daring out-of-office sorta-heist. Or, put a different way: Erickson knows exactly what happens when season 2 rolls around.

Binged this the last couple days. Best show of 2022, easily. Sort of wish I had waited until closer to season 2, the wait is going to hurt.

Re: Severance (Apple TV+) S: Scott, P. Arquette, Turturro, Walken, EP: Stiller - premieres 2/18/22

A new report reveals major turmoil inside Lumon Industries.

According to Puck News, Season 2 of Apple TV+’s Emmy-nominated drama Severance is facing significant delays in the wake of a falling out between co-showrunners Dan Erickson and Mark Friedman.

All told, Erickson, a first-time series creator who wrote the pilot episode, and Friedman, a seasoned writer-producer whose myriad credits include AMC’s Dispatches From Elsewhere and Fox’s Wayward Pines, “ended up hating each other” before Season 1 was even in the can, which resulted in a “toxic” work environment, per the industry newsletter. Friedman reportedly intended to walk away ahead of Season 2, but fellow EP/director Ben Stiller, who worked with Friedman on 2014’s Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, convinced him to come back after failing to find someone to fill his shoes.

Alas, the problems that plagued production in Season 1 continue to wreak havoc in Season 2, which is now in production. Puck News cites script issues as well as a ballooning per-episode budget. With Apple already mulling two additional seasons, House of Cards creator Beau Willimon has been quietly brought to assist with Season 2 (and beyond).

For the uninitiated: Severance, which first debuted in February 2022, follows the inner workings of mysterious biotech company Lumon Industries, whose employees undergo a procedure that divides their memories between their work and personal lives. But, as Season 1 showed us, the division isn’t always so neat.

Season 1 wrapped last April, and there’s currently no timetable for the release of the problem-riddled Season 2.

TVLine has reached out to an Apple TV+ rep for comment.

Bummer, hopefully this doesn't screw the show up.

It almost certainly will. The article doesn’t say why the rift occurred. Creative differences? That would do it, especially if, as series creator, Erickson thinks he no longer has control of his own show. I expect Stiller and Friedman will push out or sideline Erickson, “first-time creators” have no clout or staying power in Hollywood.

Ballooning budget? Most of the show takes place within four white walls and some long corridors!

Well, per dex14's post above...

I would think those cast additions could bump the budget up quite a bit.

They do a lot of location shooting too, which can be costly if delayed.
