First two episodes were pretty good, though I'm sort of having trouble keeping track on who all of these people are and how they're related across the different eras. I'm not a hardcore enough Monsterverse fan to keep track of all of these characters and their names.
I just now googled and realized that the guy with the camera who found the ship was the young version of John Goodman's character.

Great start, IMO. I think I have all the connections straight in my head but I don't remember the 2014 Godzilla movie too well. So Cate and Kentaro are both the grandchildren of the doctor and Bill from the 50's timeline, who grows up to be John Goodman?
How did Bill's son(?) (Cate/Kentaro's father) get the bag of recordings that BIll threw into the ocean during Skull Island?

In E1 it gets picked up by a fishing vessel and one of the fishermen grabs it sets it aside. I assume it's still on that boat. Also, that would be during the Skull Island timeline and those events. I'm sure we'll get some more flash forwards there.

I saw it get picked up by the boat but it's the same bag that was in the dead father's safe in Japan. I guess that's something we'll learn later.

Someone really need to make a family tree/timeline infographic for this series.
We've got three generations of characters, constant timeline jumping, characters being played by multiple actors, and one of the characters seems to be a bigamist with two families.

The guy on the boat who recovered the films was girl's dead father. Recruited by Monarch and following in his late mother's footsteps. That's why the Monarch guy reacted like he did when they were in one of the family apartments.

I’m liking this, but honestly can’t follow it. Everyone’s last name seems to be Randa. The very cute girl who is the lead and sought her fathers stuff in Japan. His name wasn’t Randa, but her last name was Randa. Randa was the guy played by Anders Holm, right? And, does most of this stuff tie closely to the movies? I mean I saw them all, but that was when they came out and haven’t seen since, thus not memorable.
So, can someone please explain in simplest terms for me? I would appreciate it. Thanks. Put in spoiler tags just in case.

Oh and Bill Randa is the only character to appear in any of the movies, Kong: Skull Island, wherein he went to Skull Island in a bid to legitimize Monarch
Spoiler:
And now you're (mostly) caught up.

Jeez... that's one hell of a conincidence, isn't it? He just happens to be on a fishing boat and pulls up a net with a satchel that his father threw into the ocean years ago?

Yeah, I don't think that's right at all.

Quite liking this so far. I do like shows where I am not sure where it is going and this has that going for ir. Obviously they find the father and all that but there is enough mystery here to keep me hooked.

Bill Randa( John Goodman and Anders Holm) is the grampa. His son, Hiroshi Randa (Takehiro Hira), disappeared and was presumed dead. Somehow, Hiroshi acquired the satchel his dad tossed during the prologue. Also, Hiroshi was a bigamist (although it seems his daughter's mom was aware).

I'm almost 100% positive it was a totally different character, but I don't feel like re-watching the opening sequence right now.
There was a Monarch emblem on the satchel, so it's not outside the realm of possibility that the son, via Monarch (of which he is/was a member), would have caught wind of the discovery somehow. And since the data was encrypted, the fisherman who found it would be none the wiser regarding the contents of the drives.

Yeah, has to be someone different. Far too big a coincidence for his son to be on the random fishing boat that pulled in the bag his father threw into the ocean years earlier.

It looks like the next episode is scheduled for tomorrow due to the holiday... so it will likely drop at 9pm ET tonight.

I'll watch it tomorrow after work. Hopefully my new AVR will have arrived by then and I can break it in with the show.

So this thread hasn’t gotten a lot of activity since everyone canceled their Apple TV plus subscription after the price increase?
I liked how we got kind of a an acknowledgement of Shaw’s age. You’re like 90-something? I have good genes
Of course that was a no brainer that Cate and Kentaro’s Dad was still alive.
Seeing Godzilla and that new ice monster at the end were pretty cool. I’m curious who the mysterious Monarch person is.

So it's a just big mole, eh?
I mentioned this in one of the Monsterverse movie threads, but I'd really love it if they could bring in some of the monsters from the old 1970s Hanna-Barbera cartoon...
https://horrorflora.com/2022/10/30/f...la-power-hour/
It could be cool as hell to see updated versions of the Earth Eater, the Stone Creatures, the Seaweed Monster, etc.
Not sure if they have the rights to them, though.

I really like Keiko, but didn't care for her hysterics when the Army was gonna bomb Gojira. I understand her disapproving of their actions, but her behaviour during that scene felt out of character for her. It seems like something Bill would have done instead.
