Apple TV+’s upcoming sci-fi drama series based on Legendary’s Monsterverse now has an official title. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is Legendary Television’s new live-action series featuring Godzilla and the Titans. The streamer also unveiled some of the first photos from the 10-episode series.
Co-developed by Chris Black (Severance) and Matt Fraction (Hawkeye), Monarch: Legacy of Monsters stars Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Joe Tippett and Elisa Lasowski.
Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows. The dramatic saga – spanning three generations – reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.
Matt Shakman (Wandavision) directs the first two episodes.
The series is executive produced by Black, Fraction and Shakman alongside Joby Harold (Obi-Wan Kenobi, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts) and Tory Tunnell (Spinning Out, Underground) from Safehouse Pictures, Andy Goddard (Carnival Row, Downton Abbey), Brad Van Arragon (Yellowjackets, Carnival Row), and Andrew Colville (Severance, Star Trek: Discovery). Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita executive produce on behalf of Toho Co., Ltd., the owner of the Godzilla character. Toho licensed the rights to Legendary for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters as a natural byproduct of their long-term relationship with the film franchise.
Beginning in 2014 with Godzilla and continuing with 2017’s Kong: Skull Island, 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters and 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong, the Monsterverse has accumulated close to two billion dollars globally at the box office and continues to expand with the anticipated sequel Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which premieres in 2024.

Interesting that Kurt and Wyatt Russell are the same character from 2 timelines.
I'm really interested and hopefully they'll release a trailer soon. But, I think this is going to get released in early 2024. Especially a big IP like this, you'll want some promotion from the stars.

If it's good, I hope it gets a physical media release somewhere.

Looks good. So did they actually get John Goodman, or are they simply repurposing (deleted?) footage from Kong: Skull Island?

Good teaser and it does look movie quality. Glad it's premiering this year as opposed to 2024.

A while back I binged the Monarch Series ... this looks like it is going to pull out the parts that I enjoyed the most and really flesh them out.

I will give this a shot if I choose to keep my Apple subscription. Right now I have too many streaming services going and need to ditch some.

Or just hop off it for a few months and jump on when the season finishes early next year. The perk of streaming is how easy it is to cancel and resume.
I googled the start date for this and was baffled that Monarch starts 9/11.
...it was the Fox show that debuted on 9/11/22.

I'm really stoked to see this next month. Looks like a blockbuster movie level production.
It's too bad the cast still can't promote it and the strike is at an impasse. Kurt Russell appearing on some late nights would help. I'm sure there will still be a lot of people who have no idea this is coming out as Apple TV still isn't really a big mainstream service yet. Plus, lots of people seem to be cutting back on streaming subs.

That said, I can’t wait for this to start. I think I’m going to introduce my 14yo son to the movies and get him caught up before this starts.

I have to admit that the Desert Godzilla scene at the end is pretty darn cool. Even if the trailers show all the good bits, I am still excited. As long as the pacing of the eps is not completely off, it will be a lot of fun to binge this right around Thanksgiving week.

I get a Pacific Rim vibe, especially with that bridge scene at the beginning, but this one is the Golden Gate Bridge and the one in PR was the Brooklyn Bridge?
