Agreed Cellar, the episode was a fun one with some touching moments. Helen and James make for quite the charming couple. Glad this show is back and it makes for a pleasant watch and great distraction from all the gloomy weather in the Bay Area this week.

If you have pbs Passport, you can stream all the episodes now. I had the day off yesterday and I watched 5 episodes. I really love this show but I think the first season is still my favorite. This is still great though.

Season 3 Episode 2 - "Honeymoon's Over"

I liked this episode a lot--everyone was very on-character: James fretting over his patients, Siegfried being stubbornly resistant to change, Tristan being a slacker, and Ms. Hall keeping everything from falling apart. And Helen is finding her footing in her new home.

The mystery illness of the calves was interesting. For a bit I was worried it was going to turn out to be some kind of Munchausen syndrome by proxy and we'd find out the farmer woman was deliberately poisoning her calves to get her estranged sister to come back, but thankfully it was not that. The actual answer was pretty interesting--I wonder if it was based on any real incidents or if it was just made up.

Looks like there could be a new romantic interest for Tristan in the other vet's daughter. She's cute and they had good chemistry together.

Only passing references to the war in this episode.

By the way, I just learned of the podcast "MASTERPIECE Studio" which has a weekly discussion of the current PBS Masterpiece shows, so of course they are currently covering All Creatures. Last week they talked with Nicholas Ralph, who plays James, and there was some interesting behind-the-scenes talk. Apparently two of the children of the real life "James Herriot" work on the show. Haven't listened to this week's episode yet, but the description says they talk with one of the animal handlers who works on the show.

Season 3 Episode 3 - "Surviving Siegfried"

This was a really good Siegfried-centric episode. Some flashbacks to his experiences in WW1, and a story in the 'present' that really tugs at the heartstrings.

I just caught up on this season and I’m enjoying it. The episode with Siegfried and the horse was really well done. Also, the episode with the sick calves was very good too. I like Tristian’s new love interest too. I’m just surprised her dad hasn’t shown up yet. It should be a good scene when he does.

Season 3, Episode 4 - "What a Balls Up"

Tristan was the man in this week's episode. He got some snazzy new wheels and a kiss from a cute girl! There were some fun and funny moments with the car, the cow mix-up, and the visit from Tricki Woo. I loved how after Tristan dropped Florence off, he returns to James in the car and in response to James' question he says "A gentleman never tells" and then he gets all giddy and says, "Yes I kissed her, were you not watching?!" :D
A few more serious scenes, too, like Helen's concern over James and the war, and Ms. Hall's rejection of her friend's romantic gesture.
The TB danger from cow's milk in that era is something I hadn't heard about before.

Catching up on the last couple of episodes:

Season 3 Episode 5 - "Edward" - an episode centered on Ms. Hall and her son. Very emotional. I liked the inclusion of the deaf woman at the train station and how she was able to help Ms. Hall at the end.

Season 3 Episode 6 - "For Whom the Bell Tolls" - War is declared, Tristan jumps the gun with Florence, and James and Tristan get in line for the military recruiters. Oh, and Skeldale House has a new resident--the adorable Dash.

Tomorrow night we will get the Christmas special and that will wrap things up until next season.

Just to finish out the season:

Season 3 Christmas Special - "Merry Bloody Christmas" - I liked how it started with the little evacuee girl talking about staying at Skeldale House. She was cute and brought some light moments to the episode. The Ms. Hall/Gerald scenes were great. More drama with Siegfried and Tristan, but it looks like Tris is off to war. Will James be following soon? We'll have to wait and see.

Season 4 started on Sunday. I never watched the season 3 Christmas special. It's supposed to snow Sunday and Monday. Hopefully, I'll get caught up then.

Yes, thanks for the thread bump. I meant to do it myself but have had some stuff going on.

I've just now watched the first S4 episode. Really nice to have this show back. Some beautiful locations as usual on display in nice wide and aerial shots. The main story with James and the boy was really good. Siegfried's hunt for his tobacco was funny, as was Helen's little goof.

I really need for Mrs. Hall to have some happy storylines this season. Gerald is still around, so that's good.

Gonna miss Tristan a bunch.

I love this show so much!
it's gloomy in Chicago: fog, rain, cold, but watching this really warms me up.
I just finished the season and I was a blubbering idiot at the final episode.

I am finally caught up with the PBS airings (through season 4 episode 3). I'm glad Miss Harbottle (episode 2) didn't last. I like how the new assistant vet (episode 3) turns out to be more like Siegfried than James was expecting. The situation with Mrs. Pumphrey's foster dog was funny. Nice to see Helen's father and sister, if only briefly.

Great news, I saw on Collider that the show has been renewed for a 5th and 6th season. Most (all?) of the main cast are returning, and filming remains in Yorkshire. The 6th season might be the last, as I have read all the All Creatures books by James Herriot, so there is only so much material from the books to adapt, however, getting six season of this wonderful show is quite the treat.

I am also all caught up.

ETA: It is also the top story right this moment on TVline, so it is indeed great and big news that the show got a jumbo sized 2 season renewal.

Another great season! Episode 6 was probably my least favorite episode of the series so far but thankfully was just a blip and the Christmas episode was really well done.

Renewed for seasons 7 and 8. Season 6 will premiere on January 11th. Best news I've heard in awhile.

I grew up watching the original BBC show and grew up in Yorkshire, so very familiar with the villages, dales and a lot of the places they film. Yorkshire is known as God's Own Country for a reason.
