I really liked this episode including the brightly colored gang. But yeah that chase sequence just looked bad.

I thought the chase was a joke at first, and was waiting for a reveal to show why they were going so slowly. Kind of like in Ant Man which had that fight sequence on a kid’s choo choo train. But Rodriguez directing explains it.

I'm thinking he is being micromanaged over at Disney somehow. Just look at the action scenes in Alita (they're fucking awesome) where he had complete freedom under James Cameron and Fox at the time.

Good point. Those kids aren't a ruthless speeder bike gang, they're bored rich kids on scooters, and they were chasing an abject moron, the kind of person who could barely control a landspeeder under the best of circumstances. Fortunately, the story proceeds the same whether this chase was silly slow speed nonsense or a nail biter that puts Bullit to shame. It could have ended less back to the futurey, though.

It's sort of like Anakin's speech about sand. When you really think about it, it's completely in character as he was a very young boy who was raised by what are essentially monks and was told to never have personal feelings or relationships. It's no surprise he can't talk to girls. But it was done in such a hamfisted manner it just comes across as dumb.

I do have to say that Boba Fett's rejection of his past ways is starting to get confusing and muddying down the storyline. While we're being slow walked via flashback dreams through how his quest for revenge is going to change him, and in the end it's all going to make sense, he is coming across as unconcerned and kind of naive almost. A different story structure that got all of this out of the way in a couple episodes would have been preferable, and certainly would make things better for the fans who can't understand subtext.

Or... just maybe he just badly directed something. It wouldn't have been the first time... and this is coming from a fan of his.

That scene made me think of elderly people chasing someone down on Hoverounds.

I watched the scene again a couple of times and I think the problem is with the fact that this is a tv show with a tv schedule and a tv budget.

It looks to me like the script called for a high speed chase of some kind, Rodriguez directed the live action elements against a green screen, and by the time the special effects crew got a hold of it, there really wasn't any way to have a high speed chase through the streets of Mos Espa, which seem more like a network of sidewalks than a street one could have a thrilling, fast-paced car/bike chase through. So they did the best they could with the live action footage sequences and the background models they had available. So sometimes, especially when they're in close-up, it looks like they're moving quickly, and others it looks like they might as well be on foot.

(Speeder bikes have an odd place in Star Wars lore. The first time we saw them used was in a forest, which is probably the absolute last place you would want to go flying on these things at 200mph.)

I felt that was the weakest episode by far, the speeder scene gave me Back to the Future vibes the whole time, just surprised that it was filled with peaches or fruit at the end and not dung.

I like Boba and most of the storylines but the kids are pretty lame and I have to wonder if Disney is already planning the spinoff series for them to milk things further. I get more of an orphan vibe than a rich kid vibe from the kids. The new Wookie was very cool and badass and I would not mind seeing more of him and a spinoff there. I really hope they do better development with this show than what we got this episode moving forward. They also really need to up the special effects budget if they want to keep eyeballs on the series as this episode seemed marginal in that regard.

Eww.

It's good to see new characters, but so far these guys are pretty lame. I could see them in an animated show though.

I went with bored rich kids because of the flashy scooters and the "this eye cost a lot" line. But I'm sure they'll get a feel good Disney backstory.

If they're looking for a name for their gang, I suggest the Electric Ewoks.

Caught up last night and that chase scene was so syfy channel bad. Dear Lord. The cliché of the girl power sliding at the end was just awful. I've seen better Star Wars short movies on YouTube.
Krssantan is cool as hell but the rest of this show has been cringe-worthy so far.

I'm loving almost everything about this show. The chasing scene looking slow is about the only problem I have, and if that's the only thing, then I'm not really worried about it. I can't wait to see the last 4 episodes! Ride that rancor!

Re: The Book of Boba Fett (S1E03) - “Chapter 3: The Streets of Mos Espa” - 1/12/22

kind of meh.

Boba needs to keep his helmet on more often, and not take it off every fucking chance he gets. He's just infinitely cooler that way.

Sorry, but Morrison is not a very good actor. I am questioning if he truly can carry this show.

Black Wookie was cool. As was that fight. Just hate that Boba Fett had to be rescued yet again. I do want him back as part of Boba's gang.. I'm sure he will be.

New Rancor was cool to see... especially if Boba rides it around like a bad ass.

Danny Trejo in the SW universe? yes please. Sounds like he'll be in at least a couple more episodes.

I didn’t think the episode was bad, but I will agree it’s the weakest one so far. The best parts were at the palace. I didn’t have quite the problem with the chase like others did.

I’m finally all caught up but seeing the baby Rancor, Danny Trejo and the Wookie fight was enough to overcome the rest of the episode. It helped that it was only 30 minutes and for once, I wasn’t clamouring to be longer. I like what the series is doing with the Tusken Raiders and as per IGN, they are guessing that they may be the reinforcement that Fett will need to combat the other Crime bosses.

Re: The Book of Boba Fett (S1E03) - “Chapter 3: The Streets of Mos Espa” - 1/12/22

I was not a big fan of episode 1.

Episode 2 had me on the fence.

This #!cking sucked. I would have expected this 30 years ago from George. I know The Mandalorian would feel like a 1980s show at times, but this absolutely IS a 1980s show in piss poor production values and lazy ass week-to-week writing. I have not liked the animated stuff and this is skewing more towards that. I know Filoni and Favreau are fans first, but this really is two kids playing in a sandbox for too long. Kenner hasn’t made any new figures in awhile, so we are going to mix in the cheap knockoff figures from the Dollar Tree.

Get Robert Rodiriguez the hell away from this. His contributions are awful.

Boba Fett is now a “master crime lord” and instead of Hell’s Angels he gets Mos Espa’s Vespas.

I am embarrassed by my namesake. I will finish watching this, but I am not excited by it.

Still a better chase scene than The Last Jedi.

When I read this, my initial thought was…”there’s a chase scene in The Last Jedi?”.

So the Hutts have a floating platform for the Rancor they're giving away, but they make people carry them around on their platform? Did Boba Fett get to keep the rancor platform? I'd like to see a non-obese Hutt that can get around on their own. Jabba did it in ANH:SE and TPM.

I would imagine making people carry them is about controlling/subjugating people rather than practicality.

It's weird. The Star Wars Fanboys I work with are all half ass about this show. I really thought they would be loving it. I guess I'll watch it soon. I'm behind on all Disney + Marvel and some Star Wars shows....

I like this show, but it just doesn't feel as compelling to me as The Mandalorian. Part of it is that Boba is a less noble and heroic figure than Mando. I also think they should have cast someone else as Boba. I know he played Jango and the clones, but Morrison just doesn't really jibe with my image of Boba that I grew up with, helmet on or off.

Hopefully, by the end of the series Fett gives the armor back to Cobb Vanth and we can watch him kick-ass instead.
