I liked the episode just fine. Even before I came here there was something about them that felt off. I think it's how bright they are compared to everything else along with not recalling people adding that much cybernetics to themself.

Makes me wonder how the Power Rangers can afford all of the fancy cybernetic implants and matching shiny bikes, but can't buy water. Maybe they stole the bikes? Still doesn't explain how clean and well-pressed they appeared.
The Spy Kids comparison is apt.
On paper, Robert Rodriguez doing Star Wars sounds like a great idea, but I think it's going to end up being a mistake. I'd think at some point that someone would look at those kids on their colored speeder Vespas, and say that just doesn't work with Star Wars and force some redesigns.
Like Rian Johnson, he needed to be kept on a really short leash.

Even that Mando episode he directed (where Fett gets his armor back) just seemed off to me. It almost looked like it was filmed in a park by a YouTuber.

I said this exact same thing to my wife. "When did we flip over to Back to the Future Part II?". Also, aside from folks carrying a big plane of glass for him to smash into, they covered about every stereotypical chase scene complete with crashing into the fruits and veggies cart at the end.
But everything was happening so fast you might have missed it...

Boba is reinventing himself. He’s fortunate to have not died in the sarlacc, and if he continues down the bounty hunting path his father set for him, he will end up dead just like his father. I think this is what his dream symbolized.
He spared the Gamoreans, and they saved him when the Order of the Night Wind assassins attacked. He helped the cyborg biker gang and they saved him when Black Krrsantan attacked. He freed Krrsantan and I bet that will end up benefiting him later on as well.
This is a different Boba. One that mourns when a Tusken family dies and doesn’t want to see a rancor suffer. I think it would be boring if a character stayed the same for over 40 years and I don’t think Star Wars would be successful if limited to the same characters doing the same thing decade after decade. People evolve and Star Wars evolves.

I had no problems with the kids or their look. It shows something different on Tatooine, something rebellious. These are kids who were children when the Empire/Jabba was in charge, and are now more free. To me it was refreshing to see them not dressed in khaki like everyone else.

I love the majordomo's retro looking speeder. Reminds me a little of the one from Solo.

I really liked most of it, but agree that the cybernetics gang sucks and the chase scene was really bad. Loved seeing Danny Trejo and looking forward to Fett bonding with the rancor! I really hope we get to see him reacquire Slave 1 too.

Re: The Book of Boba Fett (S1E03) - “Chapter 3: The Streets of Mos Espa” - 1/12/22
When I watched this episode, I found it a little clunky, at least certainly compared to the first two. The speeder chase looked really slow, but they weren't exactly chasing an ace pilot. My take away is I like the parts better than the whole. This morning I have a new thought that I think will help me frame how to watch this.
The Mandalorian is a space opera interpretation of a 1960s western interpretation of a 1950s samurai movie.
The Book of Boba Fett is a space opera interpretation of a 1960s western interpretation of a 1950s biker gang movie.
I won't pretend to know a ton about the biker gang genre, but we've seen plenty of mise-en-scčne, tropes, and plot points that really feel like this is a classic biker gang "turf war" story. The items that have been pointed out as sticking out, maybe even a little too "not Star Wars" or too modern like the Nikto biker gang vests, the shiny speeder bikes, etc., I think that's all on purpose to accentuate the genre. If it's over the top, I think that's because this is how Robert Rodriguez operates. It also feeds into George Lucas and his obsession with 1950s teen culture and cars, just look at the majordomo's speeder. Tatooine has always had this vibe in a way, already. As for gangs apologizing to each other or creating truces or making moves and seemingly letting it go, that's part of the genre, too, isn't it? Similar to honor amongst thieves, there's the whole respect between gangsters, that sort of thing. It's nothing personal, it's just business. I think the series is going to keep leaning more and more into this genre and the more I embrace that the more I'm going to enjoy it.
I've watched the first two episodes several times and I want to give this one another few watches with my theory in mind, see if this episode warms up a little more on me.

I'm hoping Stephen Root's character makes a few more appearances. He's great in everything.

For example - complaining about Boba Fett changing as a character. I point to Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader - you want to see wild swings across the spectrum of behavior? Look no further than Anakin, who goes from innocent kid to stalker to raging psychopath to cold-blooded killer to caring father complete with a hero's death.

I'm fine with the biker gang being a little different than the same ole boring Tatooine we have seen countless times. However, that chase seen was the worst.

I actually think maybe the chase scene was supposed to taken as a tongue-in-cheek parody of chase scenes, the way it was laughably slow and still hitting all the chase scene tropes.
Very cool that he has a rancor now. The wookie is cool, too, I'm sure he'll be back.

We cannot compare the chase in episode 3 to a speeder bike chase. Those were not the military grade or racing grade speeder bikes we're used to seeing. they're basically Vespas. Would you compare a Kawasaki crotch rocket race to people on Vespas?
Case in point... the teens were a group called the Mods. Sure, the in-universe reason is they've modified their bodies. But it's actually a wink to the real world Mods in Britain in the 1960s: stylish young adults who rode colorful Vespas.

Eh, Mod reference or not, the chase was a terribly executed scene. You really have to stretch far to defend it.

I actually liked this one the most of all and I actually appreciated a splash of color. The chase was a bit silly but it was supposed to be, it was a bunch of kids on slow speeders chasing a nerd.
