Gotham Knights (CW) -- Series Thread -- Premieres 3/14/23

https://variety.com/2021/tv/news/got...cw-1235132524/

A “Gotham Knights” TV series is in the works at The CW from three “Batwoman” writers, Variety has learned.

The project hails from writers Natalie Abrams, James Stoteraux, and Chad Fiveash. Stoteraux and Fiveash are executive producers on the show, with Abrams co-executive producing. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and David Madden of Berlanti Productions will also executive produce. Warner Bros. Television is the studio.

“Gotham Knights” is based on the characters created for DC by Bob Kane and Bill Finger. It is not a spinoff of “Batwoman,” nor is it tied to the upcoming “Gotham Knights” video game.

In the show, in the wake of Bruce Wayne’s murder, his rebellious adopted son forges an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies when they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader. And as the city’s most wanted criminals, this renegade band of misfits must fight to clear their names. But in a Gotham with no Dark Knight to protect it, the city descends into the most dangerous it’s ever been. However, hope comes from the most unexpected of places as this team of mismatched fugitives will become its next generation of saviors known as the Gotham Knights.

Fiveash and Stoteraux are currently executive producers on “Batwoman,” which premiered its third season in October. Their other credits include “Gotham,” “Krypton,” and “The Vampire Diaries.” They are repped by Verve.

Abrams was formerly a writer for Entertainment Weekly. As a TV writer, she has written for “Batwoman,” “Supergirl,” and “All American.”

“Gotham Knights” is the latest DC show at the CW from the Berlanti camp. In addition to “Batwoman,” Berlanti Productions currently produces “The Flash,” “Legends of Tomorrow,” “Stargirl,” and “Superman and Lois” for the broadcaster. Fellow DC shows “Arrow” and “Supergirl” recently ended.

Whatever writing and producing talent the Arrowverse once had is long gone. Hollywood has run superhero television into a formulaic mess far removed from its roots.

All Berlanti related shows are garbage. Superman & Lois isn’t very good. I hope they leave Stargirl alone but I’m honestly not expecting them to.

The “Gotham Knights” pilot at The CW has cast both Fallon Smythe and Tyler DiChiara as series regulars, Variety has learned exclusively.

Smythe and DiChiara are the first announced castings for the pilot, which is based on characters created for DC by Bob Kane with Bill Finger. The one-hour drama takes place in in the wake of Bruce Wayne’s murder. His rebellious adopted son forges an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies when they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader.

Smythe stars as Harper Row. Described as streetwise, acerbic and often underestimated, the blue-haired bisexual is a gifted engineer who can fix anything. But what Harper wants most of all is to repair the broken lives of her and her brother, Cullen, the only person she trusts.

DiChiara stars as Cullen Row. After years of hiding his true self from an abusive parent, the transgender teen is tired of being polite and agreeable. Clever and adept at reading human nature, Cullen is ready to fight his own battles.

Smythe made her onscreen debut in the web series “S.H.R.I.E.K,” followed by a recurring role in the Disney Channel series “I Didn’t Do It.” She then starred in the Nickelodeon mini-series “Lost in the West” and appeared in the Freeform series “Grown-ish” during that show’s first season. Smythe is also a singer and model, working on campaigns for brands like Lucky Jeans and Aeropostale.

She is repped by AEFH, Foundation Media Partners and Myman Greenspan.

DiChiara made his onscreen debut playing Kai, a trans man, in the indie feature “Relish” in 2019. He most recently appeared in the film “The Virgin of Highland Park” from director Sonia Sebastián.

He is repped by by Innovative Artists and Maui X Productions.

“Gotham Knights” hails from “Batwoman” writers Natalie Abrams, James Stoteraux, and Chad Fiveash. Stoteraux and Fiveash are executive producers on “Gotham Knights,” with Abrams co-executive producing. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and David Madden of Berlanti Productions will also executive produce. Danny Cannon will direct and executive produce the pilot. Warner Bros. Television is the studio. “Gotham Knights” is not a spinoff of “Batwoman,” nor is it tied to the upcoming “Gotham Knights” video game.

Why are they wasting a top tier Bat-Rogue on this garbage?

Two-Face should be appearing in the upcoming ARKHAM series from Matt Reeves or in a sequel movie.

Not much content and the usual virtue-signaling in those descriptions. But then since it's from the creators of BATWOMAN, it's going to be terrible anyhow.

Do they still have some dumb rule restricting characters from appearing in two different shows at the same time?

I mean given the concept you'd think most of the rogues gallery has to show up because this is all about their kids, unless these are all C-tier villains like Kite kid and Rainbow Raider Jr.

Remember that Titans over on HBO Max has dibs on many of the Robins. Two-Face being allowed on television tells me he's not appearing in the movies anytime soon.

The television/TV/etc. "dibs" has long since been a thing of the past. You had Batman/Bruce Wayne in Titans, Zack Snyder's Justice League, Batwoman, and The Batman pretty much all around the same time. Heck there's even a Cyborg in Doom Patrol. Anyone can appear almost anywhere now.

They still exist but it's less prevalent.
