I never even started the last season since I was so upset by the cancellation. I hope it's not like the Deadwood movie on HBO and we have to wait for 10 years.

This is great news. I could not accept the way last season just ended... and then it's canceled??

Re: Ray Donovan (Showtime) -- Season 7
Ray Donovan: The Movie picks up where season seven left off, with Mickey in the wind and Ray determined to find and stop him before he can cause any more carnage. The film also weaves together the present-day fallout from the Donovan/Sullivan feud with Ray and Mickey's origin story from 30 years ago. Starring Liev Schreiber and Jon Voight. Watch the premiere on Friday, January 14 on SHOWTIME.

I just wish it a was full season to close things out. I'm worried there's too much to cram into a movie.

Good wrap up. A lot more flashback than I was expecting but it did fill in some gaps. The car shootout was great and classic Ray.
But Bridget! Shit that was great. She did what no one else in the family could do.

This was ok - a little too slow the first half. I couldn't remember a lot of little details from the previous season that involved other people, but I really only cared about closure for the family.
I think there were too many flashbacks. Bunchy and especially Terry didn't get to do much. Conner was still MIA. Lena makes a quick appearance.
Funny to think how different this show was from the first few seasons. Different location, different type of job, not fully concentrated on family crap, etc.
Noticed AJ Michalka (Goldbergs/Schooled) played young Abby.
Realized the actor who played Smitty was part of 3 shows that ended in the last 8 months (Ray Donovan, Atypical and Kominsky Method).

Like I mentioned earlier I didn't even bother to start season 7, but I binged it this week and it actually was a very good season. The movie could only do so much to wrap up the show and they discarded the corruption storyline with the mayor, which is disappointing, since it was an ongoing storyline for two seasons, but I do get the other stroyline was more important for finishing the journey. A movie just can't tell the story of a hole season, but I'm satisfied with this ending of the show.

Very good wrap up for the time they had. Much better than Dexter did with a whole season.
It was cool to see how Ray got involved with Ezra and Shawn Walker. I had forgotten most of the stuff and why Mickey was in prison in the first place. I'm thinking of rewatching the first season. I did just watch the very first episode. It ends with Mickey meeting Bridget for the first time and them hugging. Interesting in retrospect.
Anyone else think Liev was looking kind of puffy in the movie? It was jarring to see him in the season 1 again and see the difference. He was really in good shape back then.

It's fine, nothing that I'm upset with, but also nothing that really makes me want to sit down and watch the series all over again. It makes neither the "best finale" or the "worst finale" list for me of long-running series. Kind of the same way I felt about the Homeland finale - okay, but nothing special.
