I've been seeing him in a few things lately from back when he was a child star and was wondering how he was doing these days. RIP

I rewatched Battlestar again this summer and he fantastic as Brother Cavil, I absolutely loved how he 'went out" in the last episode of the series and I was a huge Quantum Leap fan too.
RIP to one of my favorite cylons.

I never knew he was a child actor. Saw his IMDB profile and noticed he acted with a lot of big names back in the 40s and 50s.
I'll remember him for his role in Paris, Texas.

Quantum Leap was the first time I saw him and I loved the "grumpy sidekick" shtick he did so much. And his turn in BSG was fantastic. I really need to look into more of his work.

Pleasant surprise when I saw his introduction in Song of the Thin Man several years ago. So many roles from Quantum Leap, Beverly Hills Cop II, The Dunwich Horror, Dune, Battlestar Galactica, etc.
RIP Dean Stockwell

Quantum Leap is one of my favorite shows. Showed my girls a few years back and they loved it also. So timeless.
I also tossed on Air Force One with them a few months back. I forgot he was in that one going toe-to-toe with Glen Close.

He was the best. Such a great actor with a long eclectic career. It is amazing to see how far back his career goes and the movie stars he acted along side of; Gene Kelly, Wallace Beery, Robert Ryan, Gregory Peck and Abbot & Costello! Loved his early work in Compulsion and episodes of Alfred Hitchcock and then later in Quantum Leap and Paris, Texas and Married to the Mob. He deserved an Honorary Oscar and should've had an Emmy for Quantum Leap. His "Ben" in Blue Velvet was a character he gave life to with wardrobe, makeup and mannerisms. When he lip syncs "In Dreams" he created one of those classic movie moments you never forget.

I met Dean at his audition for Quantum Leap in 1988. He had agreed to ‘read’ for the Network, I was already cast. We connected immediately and my career and my life were changed that day in Brandon Tartikoff’s office. How lucky were we to get him? A few months later he would be nominated for an Academy Award for his role in Married to the Mob, but he was stuck with us. Serendipity? All I know is, he never tried to get out or complain, he loved the role and the show and the rest was history.
He became a dear friend and a mentor and we grew very close over the next five, very intense years. Dean was such a passionate man…about life, his work, his art (he was an amazing artist!), his family, all kinds of causes, people, music, the planet, cigars, golf, and on and on! Having been a famous child actor, he had a soft spot for every young actor who came on our set. He was very protective of their rights and safety and always checked in with them to make sure that they were ok. His big hearted response to the kids made all of us take notice and be better guardians ourselves.
In spite of having a career that came and went several times during his seventy plus years in the business, he was always grateful and delighted to have the chance to keep working. The only time he ever complained was when we called him on the golf course and told him we were ready for him to come to work! He used to announce his presence on the sound stage (if we hadn’t already caught a whiff of cigar smoke trailing in behind him), with a bellowed, “The fun starts now!” Truer words were never spoken.
I loved him dearly and was honored to know him. He made me a better human being…

Sad news. Like others here, Quantum Leap was one of my favorite shows as a kid. I also enjoyed seeing him pop up in movies and shows over the years. I knew he was a child actor but I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything he was in as a kid.
Nice comments by Bakula. Cool to hear how he treated young actors on the set since he was a child actor himself. I’m sure Stockwell had some horror stories of being a child actor back then.

He worked with Errol Flynn in "Kim" from 1950 and "Song of the Thin Man" with William Powell and Myrna Loy.
It's amazing how far back into the golden age his career went.
