Re: SNL 11/06/21 (S47E05) H: Kieran Culkin - MG: Ed Sheeran
This is gonna be a good show. Kieran Culkin is such a little weirdo, you almost cant miss.
There better be a Succession sketch. |
Re: SNL 11/06/21 (S47E05) H: Kieran Culkin - MG: Ed Sheeran
Nicolas Braun could probably be a good host too in the future and looks like he has some comedic chops.
Sheerhan better perform Shivers. |
Re: SNL 11/06/21 (S47E05) H: Kieran Culkin - MG: Ed Sheeran
That Trump impression is so good that it's actually not funny - the writing has to do all the work.

Re: SNL 11/06/21 (S47E05) H: Kieran Culkin - MG: Ed Sheeran
Who is this discount Elijah Wood?

Re: SNL 11/06/21 (S47E05) H: Kieran Culkin - MG: Ed Sheeran
The horse skateboard Ska song bit seems like something he would have done when he was 9.
I'm kind of dumbfounded at how dumb that was  |
Re: SNL 11/06/21 (S47E05) H: Kieran Culkin - MG: Ed Sheeran
I watched through that horse sketch and realized that I had watched for 45 minutes and in all that time I hadnt laughed once. I barely even smiled. Fuck this, I am going to bed before I have to listen to Ed Sheehan.

Re: SNL 11/06/21 (S47E05) H: Kieran Culkin - MG: Ed Sheeran
Im only halfway through and not very good, other than the new guy does a killer Trump.
disappointed that Black Succession with Tracey Morgan was cut. Couldnt have been worse than some of the shit theyve had so far. Not sure what is worse, having to look at Ed Sheeran or having to hear him. |
Re: SNL 11/06/21 (S47E05) H: Kieran Culkin - MG: Ed Sheeran
I see Ed Sheeran is still trying to cover up his balding.

Re: SNL 11/06/21 (S47E05) H: Kieran Culkin - MG: Ed Sheeran
Wow, what a horrible episode. The worst was "The Heist". I mean, did anyone watch that before they agreed it was a good idea or even funny? Cecily Strong's clown on Weekend Update was one of the more painful "SNL" moments in quite sometime. Even the stoned studio audience didn't laugh at that. Awful awful awful. The whole damn thing.

Re: SNL 11/06/21 (S47E05) H: Kieran Culkin - MG: Ed Sheeran
Wow am i in some alternate dimension or something? Usually i kinda agree with general consensus of an SNL episode but i found this one surprisingly funny? I found the Men's room skit extremely funny. Also the Spectrum cable thing was quite funny and maybe too true? hah
Maybe cuz i hate political stuff and this episode was very light on it? maybe but i dunno i found it quite funny for once  |
Re: SNL 11/06/21 (S47E05) H: Kieran Culkin - MG: Ed Sheeran
Did they just hire a new CGI department or something?

Re: SNL 11/06/21 (S47E05) H: Kieran Culkin - MG: Ed Sheeran
James Austin Johnson = the new Darrell Hammond

That Trump impression was excellent.
No Succession sketch? :hscratch: |
Re: SNL 11/06/21 (S47E05) H: Kieran Culkin - MG: Ed Sheeran
I didn't know whether to laugh or cry at the Spectrum sketch due to its accuracy.

No Succession sketch? :hscratch: They had one, it was cut for time. Black Succession with Tracy Morgan, Culkin and others. |
Re: SNL 11/06/21 (S47E05) H: Kieran Culkin - MG: Ed Sheeran
I loved the Good Morning Rhode Island sketch.
Any sign of the storm? YES! Where are the Boy Scouts? THE SEA TOOK THEM! |

Spectrum: Do you want a landline added for no extra charge? Me: No Spectrum: But it's free Me: No Spectrum: But it's free!!! Me: I don't want it. I don't care that it's free Spectrum: But it's free!!!!!!!!! :gah: |

The Spectrum sketch could be mistaken for an internal training video.

I've been cable-free for over a year, but that gave me flashbacks. I still remember the inane arguing about not wanting a landline. It didn't come out to any more money (bundled with cable and internet) but I had zero use for a landline and didn't want the hassle of needing to take time off from work to meet their technician. But the phone rep just wouldn't take no for an answer.

Re: SNL 11/06/21 (S47E05) H: Kieran Culkin - MG: Ed Sheeran
It wasn't a classic SNL outing by a long shot, but I got a few laughs out of it. I even liked "The Heist", if only because I recently had someone in my car who literally had never seen a stick shift before and wasn't even aware it was a thing.
James Austin Johnson's Trump was like a lot of people have been saying, a little eerily too accurate. There were definitely times if you closed your eyes, you wouldn't know it wasn't the real thing. The only "miss" for me, as in "how did this even get on the air", was the horse racing bit. And that's coming from someone who enjoys ska music and even played in a ska band back in the 90s. That's the key: back in the 90s. 25 year-old Paff would have been bouncing off the walls with that sketch, now it was total cringe. |

I didn't realize they actually hired this guy:

Re: SNL 11/06/21 (S47E05) H: Kieran Culkin - MG: Ed Sheeran
I liked that horse sketch since it was so silly.
When will it premiere on Disney +? The Spectrum sketch was one of the best they did all season. That is how I felt when I wanted to cancel a XM subscription. WU was funny and that joke about how Native Americans are offended to be associated with Trump since he can't run a successful casino. The Trump sketch went too long and the Goobers the Clown sketch was not that good though the conservatives hate it. Ed Sheerhan is not that bad and he has some good songs with catchy hooks. |
Re: SNL 11/06/21 (S47E05) H: Kieran Culkin - MG: Ed Sheeran
I'm not sure what the point of "Goober the Clown" was... probably need to watch it again... was Cecily Strong trying to say she got abortion when she was 23? Seemed like it went over my head...
But it triggered the fuck of places like Fox News and National Review. |

Re: SNL 11/06/21 (S47E05) H: Kieran Culkin - MG: Ed Sheeran
I literally just saw Pete Davidson on TV, which made me think if this.
Pete can come out on WU, as himself, and talk about his struggles with depression, and even his thoughts about suicide, and no one judges him for that, They might hate him for other reasons, but he only gets sympathy for his problems. Could Cecily Strong have come out, as herself, and talked about getting an abortion when she was younger (and I don't know if she did) and received across the board sympathy and understanding? Or would there be protesters outside 30 Rock everyday demanding that she be fired? Would the details of her situation when she was 23 be pored over, and perhaps she would be slut-shamed? That's part of the point. |
Re: SNL 11/06/21 (S47E05) H: Kieran Culkin - MG: Ed Sheeran
I feel like the audience that would support Pete would also support Cecily. The people that would be up in arms about Cecily wouldn't have the exact same reaction about Pete, but they would almost certainly judge him as "weak." But you're right in that they wouldn't have the pitchforks out like they do with abortion. From their (twisted) point of view one is essentially murder (or something), the other is a dude who can't "be a real man."

But it triggered the fuck of places like Fox News and National Review. She also emphasized the point that this was something that happened long ago when she was 23 and it should not be stigmatized because if a woman/clown decides she wants to terminate her pregnancy she is going to do it whether its legal or not. I thought it was clever but not as amazing and 'classic' as some of the media outlets were reporting. On the other hand its Cecily Strong who is HILARIOUS and can do no wrong. The only reason she hasn't become a bigger star already is because Kate McKinnon is on the show with her. She's also very beautiful which doesn't hurt either. |
Re: SNL 11/06/21 (S47E05) H: Kieran Culkin - MG: Ed Sheeran
For the curious, Cecily more or less confirmed she was taking about herself: https://www.usatoday.com/story/enter...it/6349668001/

It would be fascinating to see how women who have had an abortion reacted to it in real-time, but of course, part of her point is that women don't reveal that they have had an abortion. |
Re: SNL 11/06/21 (S47E05) H: Kieran Culkin - MG: Ed Sheeran
So I watch an, er, downloaded version of the show, and there was like four times where there just a still of Culkin or Sheeran with music playing that went on for like a couple minutes. Was there stuff that would have been cut between when it aired live and when it was released to the web?
