I have not laughed that hard in forever. My god, lol.
I noticed a lot of green screen in both episodes. Not 100% sure they did go to Ireland. I could be wrong obviously. But not sure why they would use so much green screen on location.

They did film there.

Ah. Wonder why so much green screen then? Specifically remember the interior shot of the realtor's office had a green screen for the outside and after Mac calls his mom when him & Charlie are outside the library that's the most obvious green screened shot. Must just be timing and location stuff I guess, maybe a pickup shot or something.

I had a few small chuckles, but neither of the Ireland episodes I found all that great.

I had read elsewhere (EW maybe?) that they wanted to shoot in Ireland but because of restrictions they filmed about 20 minutes away from where they normally shoot. I went into the episode thinking that, and I figured the location shots were "second unit". Visually that would add up. However, I can't find the item I read yet, so perhaps I got it wrong.
Note: I found this interview with DeVito:The Always Sunny gang had originally planned to film a couple episodes in Ireland this season, but COVID-19 quarantine rules made that unworkable. So they used California's Bodega Bay as a stand-in, and ended up getting lucky with the weather.
"California's got the great weather, we love it and all that, but we were looking for something unique. That's why we wanted to go to Ireland, with its really cool hills and cliffs," DeVito says. "We went to Bodega Bay instead, but what happened is we had three days of fog. Oh my god, it was so great for the show. It gave you that feeling of being on the Emerald Isle and that bad weather. It really worked out for us."

I've always loved the Charlie is illiterate jokes, so him being able to read Gaelic killed me

I know they're meant to be terrible people. But I love The Gang.
Getting a Charlie character story was great.

Again, I only chuckled a couple times through both episodes. The show seems to be running out of steam.

I snorted at the Braveheart theme (Scottish) being played while they were walking through the Irish countryside

Either Bruce Springsteen is an Always Sunny fan or it didn't take Sony very long to start licensing out his music.

I enjoyed the season... even with half of it in Ireland.

Just remembered/realized that the season is over now.
I swear the Sunny, CYE and Succession seasons just flew by. I watched it on a weekly basis, but it almost felt like I binged it by how quick it went.

This season was ok. Nothing really stood out for me - not even a trip to Ireland.
I can't believe the season finale was about dragging/carrying a dead body up a hill just to throw it over a cliff

I’m considering starting a watch of this show. Is there a particular season when it really picks up or should I start from the beginning? I watched ep1 and it was pretty cringe with all the “jokes” about whether or not the guys were racist.

You should absolutely watch from the beginning. If you don’t like cringe humor, then this probably isn’t the show for you.

I’m fine with the type of humor. I just didn’t find the “are we racist” bits funny. I’ll continue from S1; I know better than to judge a show from its pilot alone.

A good gauge is - do you like Family Guy's offensive jokes?
If not, then you will not like Always Sunny's humor.
If yes, then Always Sunny offensive jokes will be funny to you.

Based on that, it should be one of my favorite shows. But like FG, I can't expect to love every single episode; especially earlier ones.
