Hopefully we get another season of Curb to address this in a non-too-subtle way.

It was funny for a while, but then they ended a few episodes with Murray apologizes and then shows he really does care and isn't really an absentee father - only to go through it again the following episodes... and it stopped being funny and just shows that Murray is a shitty father.

Re: The Goldbergs (ABC) - Season 9

More details coming out in different stories that show up in my Google news feed, but basically the story is that he didn't want this job anymore.

I find it very odd because every actor out there says that settling in on one of these sitcoms is the best money you will ever make --easy work, easy hours, steady pay.

The idea that Garlin can't or won't just stop swearing and bothering people suggests to me that he is either an asshole or has mental problems, and I am VERY sympathetic to the idea that these are all adults and people should stop acting like delicate flowers, but at a certain point he should just do the job and get paid.

Oh well, just another nail in the creative coffin that shows why this thing needs to end. Let Erica get married and Adam graduate and stop. The 90s are ready to begin.

There’s a story in Variety about him doing a comedy set the night before Thanksgiving and he spent a large part of it trashing the show.

That's the thing - was this show really going to continue with Adam going to NYU anyway?
Erica and Barry are already out of the house, but because they're close enough - they're still be part of the storylines. But Adam's the center character of the show, and with him not only out of the house - but in NY, I fail to see how the show can continue to be about the family without him. The end of this season would feel like the natural conclusion to the series.

All the proposed scenarios you guys are suggesting for the end of the show make perfect sense.

That's why it won't happen.

3.5 hours by train and 2 hours by car. Adam could come home plenty of weekends.

Right, but you're limiting the story lines to taking place on weekends and limiting those daily interactions between him and his family - especially stories that take place over multiple days.
They'll be jumping through hoops to give reasons for Adam to be back home.

And keep in mind that in real life, Beverly spent the night in Adam's dorm room. I don't wanna alarm ya all, but if Erica gets married off, Barry goes to med school, and Murray isn't in the picture anymore, can you see "Beverly in the City" happening? Where she moves to NYC to be close to Adam?

Re: The Goldbergs (ABC) - Season 9

The writers were probably looking for some excuse to get Adam to stay around home.. and maybe this is it. Forget college.. I need to stick around to help mom and I'll just go to college here locally.. They could go so many ways with all of it. If they asked to extend 4 more episodes they perhaps they are going to soft reset this series in those episodes so we know what to expect going into the next season.. or perhaps they will decide to end it and use those episodes to do that. I don't think they will end it though.. it's a popular series still even though it's run its course in my opinion. But this may be an opportunity to refresh it in some ways.

As far as someone on set who is toxic.. I've spent hundreds of hours on TV and movie production sets. Everyone is there to do a job. Think of it like being at work. If you had one guy in the workplace who was really out of control, disrespectful to everyone, and created a negative work environment every time he was there - you'd want hat person gone as well. Nobody wants that around. And if Garlin can't figure out after all the HR complaints that he's that person.. he needs to get help. Funny is only funny if other people think it is. If everyone think you're a jerk and you think you're funny.. you're a jerk.

I'll miss seeing Sadie Stanley (shut up she's 20) every week, but it's about time Brea gave Adam the Heisman. He's a geeky guy who's been getting away with shit a girl wouldn't put up with from the captain of the football team.

I've sung the praises of Ms. Lind many a time in Goldbergs threads.

And actually, I'll always have a soft spot (yes, I said soft spot, don't be gross and change it to something else) for Stephanie Katherine Grant as Emmy Mirsky, who is a dead ringer for my first college GF.

Pretty obvious Jeff Garlin wasn't really "there" for this one. Sad that they couldn't actually have him walk Erica down the aisle stairs. Did they have footage of him in a suit or did they just do face replacement onto his stand in? It was obviously the stand in when he hugged Erica showing just the back of Murray's head with some obvious old dialogue.

Re: The Goldbergs (ABC) - Season 9

Saw an interview with Julia Louis Dreyfus where she said that Bob Einstein told his famous "it's in the sink" joke when he was just hanging out on the Curb set. And everybody thought it was so hilarious that they incorporated it into the show with Marty Funkhouser.

Just an insight into the kind of set that Garlin was used to at his other job and why he would push so hard against behaving on the Goldbergs set.

Re: The Goldbergs (ABC) - Season 9

It was hilarious how they tried to make it looks like Murray was still around. Some solo shots and then stand-ins, etc. They really went out of their way to keep the stand-in out of the shot except for an arm or the back of the head, etc. This should've been the time where we get to see Murray bond with Erica more and give her away, etc - a very important time in his life. And this is all they could do unfortunately.

So they downgraded the wedding, but I guess the bridesmaids and the 3 members of the JTP weren't invited?

Hey, look... a smother story line... that's new!

7 more episodes left... gonna be really weird to fully exclude Murray or do the solo shots and stand-ins for that duration. They got around it the last few episodes, but it's going to be weird to continue it further. This really has to be the last season.

No, it was the guy that works for Murray at the furniture store.

Re: The Goldbergs (ABC) - Season 9

This might have been the worst ep of the series.
The bad stand in. The bad cgi on the inserted Murray.
The bad wedding. Another Smother storyline.

Richard Marx looking like a bad Charlie Sheen impersonator.

I’ve stuck with this show for this long but this was awful.

I noticed that Vic and Jeff's father have basically been taking Murray's place for the last few episodes.

Well, the Father makes sense if he's there for a weeding. The co-worker, well, he's a long time friend of Wendi on Reno 9-1-1, so it makes sense given their chemistry.

Jeff is never getting off that couch.

Ya think on Garlin's last day, they just plopped him down in the easy chair and filmed him cold reading like 100 different things Murray would say? Like "leave me alone, you morons!" and "you're blocking the TV, you moron!"

They should just have a guy sitting in his chair holding up a newspaper in front of his face and just play random old Murray dialogue from now on.
