Star Wars: Visions (Anime Anthology; Disney+) - 9/22/2021

Seven Japanese anime studios bring their unique talent and perspective to “Star Wars: Visions”—a collection of animated short films that will stream exclusively on Disney+. The anime studios are Kamikaze Douga, Geno Studio (Twin Engine), Studio Colorido (Twin Engine), TRIGGER, Kinema Citrus, Science Saru, and Production I.G. Each studio will use their signature animation and storytelling styles to realize their own visions of the galaxy far, far away. As a first formal venture into anime, each “Star Wars: Visions” short bears a unique Japanese sensibility, which in many ways aligns with the tone and spirit of Star Wars storytelling. From the beginning, stories told in the Star Wars galaxy have counted Japanese mythology and the films of Akira Kurosawa among their many influences, and these new visions will further explore that cultural heritage through the unique animation style and perspective of each anime studio. TV-PG
All nine episodes dropped yesterday on Disney+. They are between 13 and 22 minutes each (including a short list of credits).

I’ve watched the first three. Very different and kinda interesting.

There is already a thread for this in the anime section but since that section is dead probably makes more sense to combine and move over here where there is actually some traffic.

Not thrilled that I have to change to Japanese in the settings and back again. I was wondering why Doogie was speaking all Japanese.

So far, I've liked The Duel the best. The animation style.. very Lone Wolf and Cub/Seven Samurai feel to it.

Also good:
The Ninth Jedi
The Twins
The Village Bride
T0-B1

Tatooine Rhapsody is probably the weakest for me.

Couple more to finish up.

Oh I didn't even realize Japanese was an option. Is the song in the second episode different in Japanese?

Right?! Damn Disney... but yes.. the songs in Tatooine Rhapsody are in Japanese (with some English parts). Similar sounding to Burnout Syndrome or SpyAir... bands that did the season theme songs for Haikyuu!

A lot of the shows are available in several languages.

Thought 9th Jedi was the best by far, some were interesting, some terrible. The last two weren’t too bad.
I could see a series come from the 9th Jedi.

Watched the first one, pretty neat concept, the film damage was a nice touch. And cool timing using the droid and whistling birds.

More details on Season 2:

The Duel from season one is one of my favorite things ever. I was mixed on most of the other episodes. I'm excited to see what the different studios from across the globe come up with in season two though.

Looks really good, but so did the first volume. I liked maybe three of the previous shorts. So I'm on the fence.
