I saw someone call this a "high-minded version of Seinfeld." Found that amusing.
Terrible people doing terrible things to each other and others and suffering no real consequences.
You could even say that Shane's obsession about the room etc. was straight up George-behaviour

Just binged this show the last couple days. Hypnotic and mesmerizing. The soundtrack is probably my favorite score from a show in recent memory.
Reading this thread after it's aired was entertaining. I never gave the body a second thought after they mentioned and showed it in the opening minutes of the first episode. I just assumed it was a random act that happened while "our guests" were there. I didn't really think any of "our guests" were in on it or a victim until 4-5 episodes in when they started laying it on thick with Shane's temper, Greg's cough, etc. painting each guest in an even worse light. So the ending wasn't as big a letdown for me other than the circumstance of the death was pretty anticlimactic. Rich entitled people swoop in swinging their money around to get what they want, leaving a path of destruction in their wake and leave with zero repercussions. Sounds pretty accurate to me. I did like that the only person to "get it" was poor Quinn. He was treated like shit from the outset and didn't want to be there but by the end he was ready to forgo it all.
Oh my god, that had to be my favorite shot of the whole season. You could just see that "fuckin' rich white bitches" look on her face. It was priceless. I'll totally second your Emmy nod. I probably felt for her the most as I knew that wasn't going to pan out from the get-go.
On more than one occasion Armond reminded me of John Cleese with is perfect teeth smile, 'stache and mannerisms...yet I've never seen Fawlty Towers.

I also just binged this. I thought the Rachel red herring was pretty obvious, but had no idea who was actually going to die until Armond was on his way to the room.
I did enjoy the series, but was horribly disappointed when Kai let Paula talk him into the crime. When she was talking to him, I kept saying to myself "just tell her you're not a thief," and then he did, but to no avail.
Next biggest disappointment was Belinda being let down by Tanya, but we all knew that was inevitable.
The entirety of the series made me uncomfortable, sometimes not even realizing why. Rachel's bathing suit reveal in front of the girls did not make me uncomfortable. Oh my...
I guess I'm glad to hear there will be another season. I find it an interesting cast choice, so far, including Tom Hollander, having just binged all 3 series of Rev.

I think most of the characters had an awakening of some sort. I found it all strangely affecting.

I found nearly all the characters unlikeable but was interested enough to keep watching. I happened to watch the first episode then the rest a few weeks later so I forgot about the death tease.
Agree that Paula not warning Kai was a huge plot hole, so much so that I started wondering if she had set him up for a fall. But it became clear she hadn’t, so they should’ve taken five seconds to show lack of signal or that one of them had left their phone behind.
Armond was kind of dealt a shitty hand, but stealing the drugs is all on him.
The music was fantastic. I was watching with the captions on, so I was seeing the song credits as they played and might seek out those artists. There’s probably a complete playlist somewhere.

The series is worth watching, even though it's almost a decade old and is at least mildly relevant to what's happening in the world today

...just be sure it's the original UK series and not the recent Amazon reboot.

This show is fucking amazing. So addictive. Banging through these eps, even with Yankees game going on every day. Finishing ep 4 now. Unbelievable and so deserving of all those Emmys. Just plain quirky mysterious fun.

I just finished watching season one this morning. It's a weird show, but overall I liked it. Quinn and Belinda were the best characters. Armond became quite predatory after falling off the wagon, but he shouldn't have stolen those drugs. The whole situation between him and Shane could have been resolved if he hadn't lied about the Pineapple Suite. Olivia and Paula were my least two favorite characters. I don't believe you should ever steal regardless of your situation. I also can't believe Rachel got back together with Shane at the airport after he killed Armond. That made absolutely no sense. I'm interested to see how season 2 turns out. I'm going to start watching it tomorrow.
