The Thor looked nothing like Chris Hemsworth. Did he tell them "You can use my voice, but no likeness"?

Is there literally any point to the "What If...?" comic series other than fan service?

It's like people are completely missing the point.

Right? Who's going to read a "What if?" comic unless they were interested in the characters to begin with?

Re: Marvel Studios What If...? (Disney +) -- Premieres 8/11/21

I fell behind on this show the past few weeks or so. Got caught up with my girlfriend over the last few days though. Hit or miss show in my opinion.

I liked the Zombies episode, but I kind of hoped it would be better. I think more could be done with that concept personally.

I feel like it could be itís own animated show and be entertaining. I know zombie shows and films have been done to death though, and it would be hard to do as an MCU show. If we could get a spin-off from What IfÖ ? to be a full show I would choose it though.

The Thor episode I thoroughly enjoyed. Thought it was pretty funny and over the top. Maybe the one Iíve enjoyed the most.

The episode with Killmonger was alright, but not my favorite. The Doctor Strange one was a little too bizarre for me.

Eh.. I kind of liked the idea that this show was just itís own thing, and not necessarily tied in with the rest of the MCU. I guess weíll see how things are handled these last couple of episodes.

I thought these were showing multiverse stories post Loki events. Which I assume will be the next 15 years of the MCU. Animated because they couldnít spend a billion dollars making it.

Re: Marvel Studios What If...? (Disney +) -- Premieres 8/11/21

I don't get how so many of y'all are so down on this series. It's been awesome. Each episode brings up very interesting twists on stories we've mostly been very familiar with and it's been great revisiting these pivotal moments from the MCU in a different light. It's like a reward for following the MCU thus far. How can anyone with any interest in these characters be bored for a 30 minute show. How short is your attention span? Captain Carter is really awesome. Sign me up for a live action adaptation. T'Challa as Star-Lord was epic. Seeing Hank Pym dismantling the Avengers ala Batman was great. Seeing the lengths that Dr. Strange is willing to go to when properly motivated was frightening. Marvel Zombies. What more is there to say? I didn't expect it to be so hilarious as well. Shout out to using tertiary characters too like Happy and that one guy from Ant-Man. More Killmonger is always a good thing. Party Thor was pretty hilarious. Loved the return of Grandmaster Goldblum. And Kat Denning's Darcy fan girling over Captain Marvel?

I really feel like they'll come out with second parts of some of these stories in a second season of What if. Unless they pay off Ultro-Vision this season. Every other cliffhanger feels like and extension of the story. This one just came out of left field and seems like they really have to address it.

Re: Marvel Studios What If...? (Disney +) -- Premieres 8/11/21

And so again, The Eternals will still let all of Earth be killed off because it wasn't the Deviants who destroyed it. And Uatu comes off like the Time Keeper/Kang.. "I know everything, but I can only see so far.. and didn't see this shit coming." And where are the other Watchers?

I also prefer these to be unconnected to each other. I don't remember the comic books having an overarching storyline.

Not to be snarky, but this show is not the comics. It is its own thing.

For some reason... shows now feel the need to be connected. Why now? Why can't it be like the comics and be one offs? I should have seen it coming with only the inclusion of the MCU characters and not Marvel as a whole. Maybe they should have just called it The Watcher.

And I read the article about the plan made to merge all these stories together and was disappointed. We have enough interconnected multiverse stuff already in WandaVision, Loki, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange 2. I don't want to go through multiverse burnout. And then again, maybe this will all go away if Marvel loses the lawsuit against them.

Thanos dropping in and immediately being murdered by Ultron cracked me up

By far my favorite episode in the series.

I feel ya. I am definitely tired of "event storytelling" and long for more one and done stories, especially in comics. That said, the vision for this show was clearly not meant to be the same kind of anthology series that the What If comics were. Whether that's good or bad is subjective to each viewer's tastes.

Re: Marvel Studios What If...? (Disney +) -- Premieres 8/11/21

That Dr. Strange and zombie eps were great. Of course all the same actors helps. I swear that Spider-Man sounds exactly like Tom Holland. I could barely tell difference. Wonder why he didn’t do.

But, this is such a fun, unique series that does such fan service to the MCU films we’ve come to love. Even shot for shot scenes in some cases. Really fun stuff.

Jeffrey’s Wright’s Watcher pretty cool. Good voice as narrator. Surprised to see him pop up in an ep (Dr. Strange), but still deciding if I like his “What If…?” though. It’s definitely weaker than his narrator stuff. What do you think of that line?
