Friends: The Reunion (HBO Max)

Any thoughts?

My wife is a bigger fan of the show than I am but we really enjoyed the reunion. Always nice to see actors getting back together to discuss their experiences and it wasn't just blabbing they had lots of footage and behind the scenes stuff that was cool. It's neat they went through the trouble of somewhat restoring the set.

We enjoyed it. I never disliked it, but wasn’t a huge fan. It’s one of my wife’s favorite shows and she really enjoyed it.

I felt like the format was a bit disjointed and could almost have done with the couch interview but there were some good bits there.

A few of the cameos were awkward, and there almost seemed like there weren’t enough. It’s like they didn’t fully commit.

There was something clearly off with Perry, but I couldn’t place my finger. Either he was on something or has larger health issues (I know he’s had drugs and alcohol issues in the past). It’s like his speech was off and slurred; plus his teeth seemed fake - or he just had whitening dialed to 12.

There were some nice bonus feature too that I think they should have just left in - including the trifle and theme song bits.

Watched last night and enjoyed it. It ran a little too long though and some parts were pointless. Even borderline stupid (that fashion show). One table reading scene would have been enough. The show was at it's best when the cast and producers reminisced IMO. Prior to watching, several of my friends were saying that Kudrow looked the best among the 6 and I have to agree. I guess I hadn't seen her in a while and she looked fantastic. I read somewhere a few years ago that Cox said she swore off botox because she didn't like what it did to her looks. But she clearly has had some type of work done since. I can't tell what. Still looks great though to me. Just a little different. Aniston has worked the most of the cast so I've seen her everywhere over the years. And is still timeless. I also read somewhere recently that some were concerned about Perry from the teaser clips. His speech is definitely off and is concerning. I know he's had substance abuse issues in the past, so hope he's doing o.k. I liked the reunion's cameos. Nice to see Elliott Gould still going. Janice was funny. But I didn't even recognize Gunther at all. He changed the most. Agree with Kudrow and the Producers not to do a movie or limited scripted series with these characters. That chapter has been nicely closed. But it was fun seeing them all together again. Next up, I would love to see a Frazier reunion if that reboot doesn't happen.

I heard the explanation with Perry is he just had "emergency dental work".. and I have oceanfront property in Kansas to sell.

Okay, good to know that I can fast forward when they get to the fashion show bit, and I will probably fast forward the table reads (99% of the time I can care less for table reads), but otherwise I look forward to watching because over the past 2-4 years I watched Friends from Episode 1 to the Series Finale (mostly on Netflix, and with so many episodes it took awhile to finish things up as I had never watched when the show aired so I did indeed watch every single episode when the show was on Netflix). So, I am not a superfan but generally speaking, cast reunions involving shows I watched are something I like to watch. Heck, I even look forward to those After Netflix 30 minute David Spade shows that host a mini-reunion with the cast of a show I just streamed.

I would have rather this been intimate like the Fresh Prince reunion. I actually liked the table reads. The guests were rather wasted. No Rudd or Favreau. They don't touch on the disappearance of Emma. Or the Joey spin off.

There are reviews which discuss all the best bits, that's enough for me. Because when I read the host is James Corden, I went :yack: And some quick googling confirmed that I ain't the only one.

It is funny you mention the table reads because I just read a meh review of the reunion on the AV Club, but they did mention that of all things, they liked the fashion show bit and table reads. So maybe I will just put the reunion on and watch the dang thing all the way through letting it play in the background while I futz around on my tablet.

LeBlanc's really been tucking away the groceries.

The fashion show is like maybe 3 minutes long and it was a pretty funny bit. I thought the table reads were OK.. It's as close as fans are going to get to seeing them re-playing their characters all these years later.

I thought it was fine, but the lack of Rudd and Cole Sprouse were letdowns. The choices of having the guy who played Mr. Heckles and Joey's hand twin on set, but neither of those two seems odd.

I could have done without the Corden parts, but otherwise I enjoyed it. I haven’t watched it since it originally aired so I had forgotten most of it.

Schwimmer and Kudrow looked like they’ve barely aged.

Kudrow is really good at table reads.

and yeah, Corden just bugs me.

Yeah, I didn’t watch it all but they both look good. Same with Aniston. I was never a huge fan of Friends really, but I don’t mind it on occasion. I only watched a tiny bit of the reunion special. Might watch the rest sometime.

Jennifer Aniston is 52 years old and looks amazing. She could probably pass for someone in her 40s still.

All their teeth are fake. Cox had too much plastic surgery and for some reason Aniston's plastic surgery was more noticeable in anything else I've seen her in recently.

Gave this a watch for shits and giggles. Not a fan of all the fawning over the show during this thing - it was a little much.

It was ok for what it was.

He definitely has. The last time I saw him a year or two ago on his sitcom when flipping channels, he had extra weight - but not this gut.
Perry's a trainwreck. Gotta be fake teeth. Cox has ridiculous looking lips and more work done on her face. The others look right for their age more or less.

Realized the show has a list of cameos from Oscar winners - Pitt, Witherspoon, Penn, Oldman, Roberts, Clooney, Williams, Sarandon, and Hunt. And some Oscar nominees as well - Ryder, Turner, Baldwin and Gould. That's gotta be a record for a sitcom.

30 Rock had a lot.

I never watched Friends. Thought I know people love it.

I had forgotten Julia Robert’s guest starred, but IIRC it was only because she was dating Perry at the time.

Okay, my tablet did not charge overnight so while I had to wait for it charge I put on the Reunion early this morning and you know what, as a newcomer to the show through streaming I enjoyed the heck out of this reunion. Also, LeBlanc is well aware there is a lot more of him than there was when the show aired, lol, as he even made a funny comment about his physical shape during the reunion. I felt the reunion just worked and quite frankly I really would be okay if other beloved shows could gather up some OG cast members and put together a one or two hour special. I also agree with Lisa Kudrow that there is no need to try and continue the show or reboot it, the final episode was sweet but sad as you said goodbye to the show and just ended in such a way that there is no need to try and create a show around these characters and their kids that have grown up.

Really enjoyed it... the best parts were when it was just the 6 of them on set.
