Remember, this is Disney. They have no issues with hitting us over the head with "heavy" issues they want us to be painfully aware that they are painfully aware.

The big reveal was that Government gave the shield to someone else instead of keeping it in the Smithsonian.

So is this US Agent and is he on the same gear as Cap or just a regular guy?

It was OK. Mostly set-up, character beats, and well-constructed action sequences. While obviously it is a completely different show, TFatWS didn't grab me the way WandaVision did. But I liked it enough to stick around for episode two.

I loved it. This looks like it's going to be a nice exploration of two secondary characters from the Avengers who deserve more screen time. It doesn't have to have the same high stakes as the movies IMO.

Giving someone else Cap's shield was a slap in the face to both Rogers and the Falcon.

We didn’t see his face, but I’m wondering if he’s the guy who beat up Sam’s friend.

The way they focused on the picture of the old Asian guy's son on his shrine, I suspect the guy in the mask is going to be him. When Barnes finally confronts him and the mask comes off, there's going to be the old "hey, I've seen you before" moment.

The press often has some idea of what's going to be announced at a press event. It's likely the before the TV cut live to the announcement, the anchor stated that the government would be announcing a new Captain America. Sam's sister saw that intro, called Sam, and he turned it on to see the actual announcement.

The old Asian guy's son is dead, we saw Bucky kill him in the flashback/dream he had at the beginning of the episode. He's supposed to make amends with the old man, but somehow he made friends instead and now doesn't want to tell the old man the truth because he'll lose the friendship.

I'm pretty certain the reason Bucky feels so guilty when it comes to the old guy is because Bucky knows he killed that guy's son at the hotel. Doesn't need to be more complicated than that.

I'm sure the masked anarchist dude is unrelated.

Thanks for this. It didn't click for me while watching. Not only did Bucky hill him but he died for no reason. Can't even give the father a potential reason for his death.

Re: The Falcon and The Winter Soldier (S1E01) - “New World Order” - 3/19/21

I liked it and it will be a slow burn and I like that, too.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but there are four new Marvel Studios Legends featurettes on the characters of
Spoiler:
Falcon, The Winter Soldier, Zemo, and Sharon Carter,

if that gives you a clue where some of this may be heading.

I watched the first part of the episode on my phone while I was on break at work, so I guess I didn't catch that. Thanks.

The loan stuff was kind of boring, but we had some action and probably more backstory in this one, which is ok for episode 1. It's like a really long Marvel movie, so there's going to probably be more character interaction than action for the most part.

How could anybody without super-serum really be Captain America?

I don't read the comics, does Sam get the serum at some point and become superhuman or is he just a regular guy with a shield?

Also, with all of Stark's tech floating around, and being friends with Rhodey etc, why would anybody choose to be dressed up to fight like the Falcon (with no full body and head armor) and not just go full iron man type suit? Seems like a liability.

If they wanted to make it look like the new Captain America’s suit was thrown together at the last second (which might actually be the case in context) they succeeded.

I honestly have wondered about all of those things. Yes, Captain America is a symbol, but part of what made him a symbol is the ability to back it up and for Steve Rogers, the super serum was the key to unleashing how to carry out his ethics. Steve's ethics let me be Captain America, the super serum let me do as Captain America. Is it addressed in the comics, anyone?

Sam still wears his Falcon gear as Captain America. He just gets a new color scheme and the shield.

There is no more super soldier serum, and the serum isn't as important as the ideal.

The kids and I really enjoyed it.

fantastic opening sequence, and it was cool to see Batroc again.

nice cameo by Rhodey. I had no clue about that one.

Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes continues get better with each appearance in the MCU.

I liked the episode overall but the writing and dialogue were extremely generic. A huge step down from Wandavision.

I wonder what the general public in this world knows about what happened to Steve Rodgers. They'd have no reason to suspect that he had died or become an old man, would they?

Maybe the Avengers released a statement? Hey, Captain America decided to travel back in time to be with his true love and live a long full life, and not warn anyone about Thanos and the blip.

I would imagine the statement would be more like he went back in time to return some items that were borrowed to combat Thanos and never returned, which is basically true.
