The Real World Homecoming (Paramount+) -- original casts reunited

This is the true story of seven reality TV pioneers picked to reunite in a loft and have their lives taped… and you know the rest.

Veteran reality staple The Real World is helping kick off the rebranded Paramount+ platform (formerly CBS All Access) on March 4 with the debut of The Real World Homecoming: New York, TVLine has learned. The six-episode docuseries will reunite the original seven strangers as they revisit the shocking moments and fiery issues they tackled during their historic season, and discuss how their experience parallels the world and society of today.

“After spending decades apart, viewers will reconvene with New York housemates Becky Blasband, Andre Comeau, Heather B. Gardner, Julie Gentry, Norman Korpi, Eric Nies and Kevin Powell to find out how the series transformed their lives since the cameras stopped rolling and to find out, once again, what happens when they stop being polite and start getting real,” reads the official description.

“The Real World is credited with creating the reality TV genre and was one of the first series to tackle important and yet unrepresented topics such as LGBTQ, race, gender, HIV/AIDS and religion,” said president of MTV Entertainment Group Chris McCarthy in a statement. “With Paramount+ being the home to so many global reality hit franchises, it seems only fitting to bring back the franchise and cast that started it all for the launch.”

Created for MTV by Jonathan Murray and the late Mary-Ellis Bunim, The Real World rose to prominence in 1992, having been celebrated for its diverse casting and accurate portrayal of youth culture. The original series ran for 33 seasons (the last of which rolled out on Facebook Watch in 2019) and spawned two spinoff series, Road Rules and the competition series The Challenge, which is currently airing its 36th season.

This is the second cast from the franchise to get the reunion treatment. In 2007, MTV produced a mini spinoff season entitled Reunited: The Real World Las Vegas, which brought the entire Season 12 cast back to the Palms Hotel and Casino suite they once lived in.

College age me had a crush on Julie Gentry (née Oliver). She still might be my favorite Real Worlder.

They couldn't find time on the MTV schedule between episodes of Ridiculousness.

Those first 4 seasons or so of The Real World are some of the only good reality television there has ever been. I need to rewatch the first season before this reunion.

re: The Real World Homecoming (Paramount+) -- original casts reunited

I've watched every MTV season of The Real World, except for season 1. I guess I should watch it now before watching this reunion season. Luckily, it's only 13 episodes from when RW still had the half hour format.

One annoying thing on Paramount+ is that the RW seasons are listed by season number only. I would think most people might want to watch a specific season based on location and can't remember the season number. Guess they'll have to go to Wikipedia or something to find the right season number.

I watched season 1-14 (San Diego) before I quit. Then I randomly watched all of Australia (19). I guess Dunbar does porn now (not just his Foursome episode).

My recollection of one is that show got a lot slicker in the the next few years. One had the benefit of the house guests not really knowing what they were signing up for. Things felt more real.

Plus, Julie, Heather, and Becky went to that nude beach in Jamaica.

I'm actually not interested in this. My main recollection of the season was that it felt very dreary and isn't anything I would want to revisit. The format was very interesting and new, but now that format is everywhere. I didn't actually get beyond just watching out of curiosity in this new "reality" format until season 2.

I've been really enjoying this for the nostalgia. Of course between the silly John Lennon stuff and her inability to actually stop and listen Rebecca Blasband wasn't exactly putting her best foot forward. Now she's gone.

Yea, I've been enjoying this.

The conversation across the last two episodes reminded me of some threads on this forum.

"This is the true story" of two more Real World casts reuniting for a special homecoming.

The Real World Homecoming is returning to Paramount+ for two additional seasons of the hit unscripted juggernaut. Following the successful and critically acclaimed The Real World Homecoming: New York, season two will reunite original cast members from MTV’s The Real World: Los Angeles later this fall. A third installment will be announced at a later date. More "lives taped"!

After spending decades apart, the upcoming seasons will reconnect the onetime strangers turned roomies to find out what happens how the series transformed their lives since the cameras stopped rolling, and to find out, once again, what unfolds when "people stop being polite… and start getting real."

Ever since The Real World was created in 1992 by Jonathan Murray and the late Mary-Ellis of Bunim/Murray Productions, it has been widely credited with launching reality TV. MTV Entertainment Studios has dominated the genre and continues to grow its unscripted library on Paramount+, which serves as the home for such hits as RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars, The Challenge: All Stars, Behind the Music and RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars: Untucked.

Stay with MTV News for more updates on The Real World Homecoming, and stream The Real World Homecoming: New York on Paramount+ now!

I hope they announce The Challenge All Stars season 2 next. It's already been filmed and I'm ready to watch it.

It has been a long time since I watched it, but I remember the disliking everyone on Season 2 of the Real World

Re: The Real World Homecoming (Paramount+) -- original casts reunited

Some of those season 2 people never wanted to have anything to do with the show again so it will be interesting if they get everyone.

What I remember on season 2 is that they interviewed for new roommates (when they kicked out David) and picked the guy I wouldn't have picked and then his entire band moved in.

Re: The Real World Homecoming (Paramount+) -- original casts reunited

As for the future season...San Francisco has the David Rainey issue. Plus, Pedro not being there would hover over the whole thing. Besides, who really wants to see Rachel Campos Duffy...

London and Miami...who cares.

Boston - Maybe, but I don't want to see Sean Duffy.

Seattle - Maybe, but do Stephen and Irene get in the same room again.

Hawaii - I don't think you could get everyone.

The first New Orleans would be interesting.

Re: The Real World Homecoming (Paramount+) -- original casts reunited

They should try and do some of the seasons that still have cast members appearing on The Challenge. We can assume that CT and Aneesa would probably be up for it. Tonya was on Aneesa's season though so that might not work out. They could probably get The Miz for his season and probably even Bananas would come back since the time needed is around 1 week if I remember. I think Jordan is banned from The Challenge so they probably wouldn't want him back and one of his fellow castmates from his season was kicked of The Challenge for touching him inappropriately, if I remember. That would actually be an interesting season to reunite.

I can't actually remember who still appears on The Challenge that was on The Real World originally... Corey? Nelson?

Other than those, some of the good ones to do would be San Francisco, Miami, Hawaii, Seattle, Las Vegas, and New Orleans. A lot of the later seasons are less memorable for some reason. Maybe do the one that had Jenna and Jay.

I didn't see Dom or Aaron in that clip. They are why I figured they wouldn't do this season. Doesn't look like they move in, though supposedly Dom might make an appearance.

Dom has a big job within Disney Music Group. He doesn't need to subject himself to this.
Maybe a brief appearance.

When it comes to Dom, all I can think of is the SNL parody of that season, with Mike Myers portraying him. His only line (repeated over and over) is "I'm from Dublin".

Watch and enjoyed reunion#1. Too young to watch the show when it first aired, but knew if it’s groundbreaking importance. I did like how the producers organized the topics of conversation to bring about the importance of what they were talking about thirty years ago. Interesting to see such a blatant display of white fragility.

Was very excited about reunion #2, but without Dom…I’m not so sure anymore. Watching the trailers just makes it seem like pre processed drama. Seriously, going at David again?

nomeoubt that I will watch if i keep paramount.

They're skipping San Francisco? Did Puck not want to participate?

Pedro's dead.
Puck... is he in jail?
That one chick is a Fox News loon.

A SF reunion would basically just be Judd and Pam.

Yeah, if they wanted to do a zoom reunion of Judd, Pam, Cory, and Mo I would probably watch it, but I have no interest in seeing anyone else. New Orleans was probably the next feasible season. I wonder if Julie and Melissa ever squashed their issues.

Brian: Well, actually.. I’m not from Dublin – just outside of Dublin. A place called ?? But when people would ask me where that was, I had to explain it’s just outside of Dublin. And I got tired of saying “I’m.. from just outside of Dublin.” So I started telling me I’m from Dublin. So, nowadays, when people ask me where I’m from, I say I’m from Dublin.

Re: The Real World Homecoming (Paramount+) -- original casts reunited

I finally got around to watching the first episode, and I was reminded that I never really cared for anyone on the LA cast. Certainly not anyone that is currently in the house. That having been said, there is a hierarchy and David, Beth A and Glen are on the bottom.

Real World Los Angeles is my favorite season of reality tv ever but without Aaron and Dom none of the reunions have interested me at all.
