The opening on the latest Yellowstone said 1893... so that is a 10 year time span from the events playing out on this show at the moment. Notice they also had another son in the mean time and the daughter who seemed to be killed in the opening of this show, was no where to be found in the flashback to 1893.

The first episode was really good, a western drama tempered by reality and just the right amount of grit. Probably better than any single episode of Yellowstone's first season.

I watched all three episodes tonight and Sam Elliot better win an Emmy for this. He's excellent on this show. He was robbed of an Oscar for A Star Is Born. It's hard to believe that he's 77 now.
Tim and Faith are better in this than I would have thought they would be. I really wished they hadn't shown the flashforward at the beginning. I'm really hoping it was a dream or a misdirection. I've only seen the first two seasons of Yellowstone so I don't know what some of you are referring to. It's crazy that after two episodes they already killed off 2 members of the Dutton wagon party, but some people weren't made for that kind of journey.

I haven’t seen much of Yellowstone. Would I enjoy this series on its own?
I love Sam Elliott.

The only real tie to Yellowstone is the lead family's name and an obvious idea of where they're headed. You need zero knowledge of the other series for this.

That’s good to know. I really don’t like Yellowstone (every character is such a shit person), but this looks good.

So far 1883 has been a great show. Great cast, tight scripting and a keen appreciation of reality living as a pioneer.

So far this is better than season 3 of Yellowstone for me.

Sorry if this has been posted but I don’t want anything spoiled.
Are all of these gonna air on regular TV Paramount? Just a week late or something?
I see the first two are on TV immediately after tonight’s Yellowstone finale, and the third episode airs Thursday night, the 6th I believe.

Unless something has changed recently, this will remain an exclusive to Paramount+. The idea is showing the first few eps on regular Paramount Network, to get people interested and to subscribe.

Looks like Episode 4 on P+ isn't airing until next week. Giving people a chance to catch up, I guess.

Just started this now that I'm caught up with Mayor of Kingstown. Episode 1 was great. Beautifully filmed by Sheridan. I felt like I was watching a movie western. McGraw and Elliott are both good.
So I read up a little on the Dutton lineage. James is John Dutton's great grandfather. John Dutton (the little boy) is grandfather. Elsa, who is basically the lead since this experience is through her eyes is Dutton's great aunt. And yes Isabel May is stunningly beautiful.
I've seen some of McGraw's work as an actor and he's done good work in the past. I think he's well cast here. He has the gravitas of being a cowboy.
I'll try to get caught up with episodes 2 and 3 before episode 4 drops on Sunday.

Just started this. Holy shit it is fucking amazing. I usually am not a fan of westerns, but man this is all sorts of good. Production values are legit. Also, Isabel May

Another great episode. I know it still happens today, but back then, not even grown folks were able to

I think this is a better series than Yellowstone itself. I am not a huge fan of McGraw and Hill but they are fine but sort of seem like Mary Sues. I would like them to be just a little less perfect.
The issue I have is that for the most part (if I remember right) outside of Cattle, the Oregon Trail was pretty much not a thing in 1888.
It's interesting that Sheridan wrote a novel first than filmed it. He is really prolific and quite brilliant.
