It was unrealistic, but they gotta keep bringing up the same subject over and over. Thankfully Nolan no longer works in that “rough” neighborhood so that whole helping subplot went out the window

Versus the realism of Chen getting kidnapped off the street for the second time, or Nolan getting in shootouts over and over.

If your expectation of a cop show is realism, this is literally the last show you should be watching. Almost every storyline and premise is absurd and would never be reality.

We thought this week was intense but good. crazy next week is the finale already.
I feel like, despite the lip service, the Lucy storyline is crazy unrealistic. However, if there is another season, it gives them the opportunity to write her out or be in episodes less frequently while she’s off undercover.

Same! For one thing it’s easier to say and clearer than “a new Rookie” or “a new The Rookie.” Plus we really liked Castle.

So last night's episode was the season finale, right? Pretty good episode, though I doubt any of it bears much resemblance to law enforcement reality.

On the second part, I literally just said out loud:
Spoiler:
Also, this felt like a weak two parter - with entirely too many plots crammed in - and not like a season finale. I thought John had only days until he was done with the program. Lucy had an entire days montage waiting the hotel room and there was an entire week getting ready for a wedding. Yet they couldn’t wrap up John’s class (I hope the teacher is gone next season) or his advancement to the next level?
At least glad it didn’t serve as a series finale.

On the meet cute, I agree. I thought he was literally giving the key to a house burglar.

It's weird see Toks on this show and Big Shots.

My wife and I both thought the neighbor guest was also some sort of scammer.
Pretty smart way to write Lopez off the show for a bit while having the kid. Maybe an episode or two. I assumed this wouldn't have been the finale but it actually works well as one.

I thought the wedding was going to get shot up but I guess this is a better way to go without killing anyone.
You know shit is about to go down when you start hearing cello music and no sound effects.

I love Smitty pretty much commenting on the whole show by saying he didn't have to pull his gun for 22yrs until he gets paired up with Nolan.

The neighbor in the finale is Jenna Dewan, Channing Tatum’s ex wife. True her most meaty part recently was Supergirl and probably that Lifetime witches show.
I read that Alyssa Diaz is not really pregnant, but she did have a baby prior to the season. The storyline probably is allowing her to buy some time to eventually get back into shape.
Thankfully this is coming back. The cliffhanger with López getting kidnapped would have been a terrible series ender.

If they knew that they were not getting renewed, all they had to do was cut the La Fiera escape scene and have Lopez walk down the aisle. Everything else wouldn't have to change...

I've had some of the same problems as others with the writing on this show and the like in their efforts to acknowledge and reflect the current times. My issue hasn't been the story lines, but the writing - clunky, shoe-horned and judgemental. I don't expect subtlety and nuance in an hour long network tv show, but my guess is that writers were forced to pivot in a short period of time, and I hope next season will result in more fleshed out and appropriate writing. As for the racist cop character and story, ultimately it was a story about a "bad cop" and we can agree that a racist cop is a bad cop at least, right? I've seen literally thousands of episodes of cop shows - never heard an accusation of "wokeness" when a bad cop episode occurred.
