It was clever because they dropped the boyfriend thing last week with no explanation, leaving the audience to think there would never be one. Then in the middle of this totally random story about a cult, this story about the boyfriend comes out. So the audience gets its explanation, but it's crazy. That's part of what made the episode so fun (to me), it was all so random, and Chen was loving it!

This is off for a few weeks and was just a weird ass episode to go out with.

Maybe the people that make the show were just as tired of the serious racist cop continuing storyline as you, and they wanted to do a standalone fun episode.

Return episode was good. Funny to see Castle's daughter make an appearance on the show.

We were late watching the 4/4 episode, but thought it had a lot of humor. Those that haven’t liked some of the new plot angles being worked into the show will absolutely hate it though.
The actress that plays the professor is actually British? Her accent is really weird and almost has a southern drawl to it.
Lucy punking Tim in the car was hilarious, although perhaps too on the nose since they seem to have been implying something for a while now.
Was really great to have Lopez and West back together again! Reinforces how under utilized Lopez’ character has been in her new role.

Great episode this past week. It was very brief, but good to see the Captain back. Likewise, it was good to have Rick’s friend back. Really added a personal home dimension back that’s been missing.
Really glad Tim will be Angela’s man of honor. Hope that adds a fun dimension with this P2 shift.
If the show gets booked for another season, I hope they bring in some new rookies to shake up the dynamic.

Don’t they actually do anything at the Police Academy? I can’t honestly believe that the overweight rookie would have passed a physical, and if he did he certainly would have had to have training with a firearm. Same goes for the female rookie- they didn’t teach her the difference between being a police officer and being a soldier?

I thought the story about Tim's new rookie was very interesting and presented a valuable insight into the "Cops Behaving Badly" issue that our nation now faces.

That said, you'd think they would deal with all these issues before putting a rookie cop out on the streets.

So basically you are advocating for more extensive psychological screening at the police academy. Sounds like a good idea. The average police academy term is 3-4 months.

Was just watching Season 3 Episode 13 and heard at least 2 lines from Nathan Fillion which sounded just like something he would have said on Firefly. Made me laugh.

FYI episode 14 will be the season finale
I just caught up to episode 12. Surprised no one mentioned last week about Emily Deschanel guest starring as the ex-Mrs. Nolan. It's been awhile since I've seen her after Bones ended, but she looked good.
I guess Lopez is having a little arc in this home stretch.

The show title doesn't really apply anymore. Nolan is a respected officer now and is bossing/joking around with his senior officers.
Oh, and LA here is still a pit, it's worse than how Law and Order depicts NY- there's a gunfight around every corner instead of a dead body.

So they brought back the racist cop only to have body cam video shown during a cop meeting. OK? And then officers from other precincts show up and have a speech. Also - Toks continued to be weirdly shoehorned into every plot.
We finally had a few decent episodes and this happens.
