Re: The Mandalorian: Chapter 16: The Rescue (S2E8) - Season Finale - 12/18/20
This show was doing so well as I thought we were finally moving away from the Skywalkers and Darth Vader......and then they go to the well one more time. Trust me, I know I'm the minority here (and on social media as fans love this). This is what I always expected in that the franchise will never be able to tell any new story and get this type of crazy reaction unless they bring back some character from the OT.
It's like I joke about a Titanic sequel, but it's told from the perspective of the string quartet. You can have a whole movie centered around them and never have to know about Rose and Jack except when their paths cross on the deck for a short time towards the end.

I keep watching reaction videos out of amusement... but in doing that I've now seen that scene so many times. I just love the way it unfolds...
We get the X-Wing... ok we've seen Rebel X-Wing pilots throughout the series already... it could be Luke... but are they really doing this?
We get the cloaked figure... ok... it could be him... but I mean... are they really doing this?
We see that the figure has a lightsaber via security camera... we can't see the color... I can't believe this happening...
He comes into frame from the side... we see the green blade and the gloved hand... OOOOH SHIIIIIT.

This show is like my childhood (I was 7 when ANH came out) dreams come true. All the pretend adventures I had with my Star Wars figures/playsets have come to life! And Pedro really sold the goodbye.

The x-wing comes on the screen, and I say "Noooo, they're not going THAT way, right?" Then you see the outfit, the glove, the green freaking saber. "Noooo, it can't be Luke, can it?" But they went full freaking Luke. Even added that extra cherry on top with R2 strolling on the scene.
BTW, I wanna call out the way this episode especially, but also the series overall and how it handles it's "girl power" segments. It doesn't feel forced or tacked on here, like that scene in Endgame. Here, you just had 4 badasses kicking ass and taking names. It wasn't called out, it was just a fluid part of the show.
Already watched it twice. Hell, I watched the Boba scene a third time already as I was really not expecting that to happen.

Yes, this was his second. Our savior... the director of Bring It On! Maybe this was a consolation prize for getting skipped over being given the Fantastic Four movie he's wanted to make for years (though I think he could introduce them in his own movie, Quantumania).

Oh my heart. It was pounding during the Luke rescue scene. And def a tear was shed when he removed his hood. That's my Luke. Bad ass and tearing thru the dark troopers. Not getting beaten by his bitch nephew.
Now I want a Luke and Grogu show, traveling the galaxy looking for potential jedi and getting into mischief.

When I saw the green saber I started bawling I chose a green crystal when I build my saber last year. Just so amazing.

Everyone else has already said what I could say in a better manner. Man...wish Filoni and Favreau were in charge of this stuff from day one.

I thought it was pretty cool but part of me didn't really want Luke in it.
I would love for them to go all Star Trek and have some space-time anamoly that creates 2 divergent universes and we get to use all these series to end the Star Wars saga in a much better way

Took me a little longer to watch, but so glad that it wasn’t spoiled for me. Just fantastic. So, so good. Loved it. Stuck the landing.

I told y'all a couple episodes ago that was Luke talking to Grogu on the Jedi mountain, and I was summarily dismissed. Summarily dismissed, dammit!
Seriously, that was a great way to end the (all too short) season. Loved the T2 vibe and techno theme of the Dark Troopers. Maybe it's for the best that I haven't seen the sequels - I don't give a shit about canon or retcons.

Wow! Great finale.
My favorite part was the tie fighter launch. Aweeeeeesome!
Cool to see the darksaber in action, since I don’t watch the cartoons.
Nice moments with Grogu.
Once the X-Wing and green saber appeared, we all knew it had to be Luke.
Nice post credits scene. Looks like more subscription time for me.

Is that the same guy they used for the Cloud City Luke scenes they had shot for Force Awakens? So would you guys rate this Luke a Playstation 4 or Playstation 5 level?
Bib Fortuna was on the sail barge. I guess if huge pieces of the Death Star II could still be intact, then some of Jabba's people on the sail barge could be intact too. Maybe he jumped off when he saw how things were going. I wish they could have gotten his voice right though.
Why did Mando not give Grogu the little ball from his ship though?
If you believe Grace Randolph (I do), then the situation still isn't resolved with Pedro Pascal. Boba Fett is shooting now, but The Mandalorian isn't. They'd really need to be shooting now to premiere in a year. So maybe the Boba Fett series is Mando season 3 while they figure out where to go after that and hopefully work things out with Pascal.

While I didn’t want the Skywalkers to be involved in this show, I’m fine with Luke swinging through to pick Grogu up. And we had a badass fight scene to boot.
I actually thought they were going to pull a fake out and have it be that woman in the cloak who was on the docks in a previous episode but I forgot that was Sasha Banks. When I saw he had a glove on one hand, I was like “...no they didn’t”. Very excited to see him (but actually more excited to see R2).
So I thought this was an awesome finale to an awesome show and hey, I STILL love the ST too. Weird how both things can be true, huh?
And I definitely heard Maclunkey. I have a T-shirt that says that - it’s arguably the dumbest thing in Star Wars

It's a good thing that Boba Fett wasn't there on the ship with rest of the gang. It would have been a bit awkward between him and Luke.

Not really too much more I can add that has already been said. Great season finale and I was really surprised by the Luke cameo. I'm not going to nit pick CGI, it is what it is. But, I didn't expect that all.
The Dark troopers were pretty cool, although it was pretty convenient that there happened to be a air lock door where they were stored.
The fight between Mando and Moff Gideon with the dark saber was pretty badass.
Mando saying goodbye to Grogu was a really heartwarming moment. Dan Murrell was saying in his review that he wonders if Grogu burned to death in that disastrous fire from Last Jedi that killed a bunch of Luke's apprentices.
The post credit sequence was cool, especially with the announcement of the Boba Fett spinoff. I'm curious who the creative team is behind it. Is Favreau going to write and showrun 2 series? That seems like a lot of work. Ming-Na Wen/Fennec will probably segue over to there as a regular.

Pretty sure the airlock was there for easy deployment. Like when they dropped down from atmosphere and took Grogu on the planet.
