So does Roarke just pop into 1960s Cuba for the fun of it? I missed the conversation she had with the guy.

Episode 4 from last night was probably my favorite of the season so far. I liked that it only focused on 1 story about that young Cuban-American learning about her roots and what sacrifices her family made. The girl who played Alma was cute and very likeable.
They've kind of teased it since the Pilot, but I guess they are slowly exploring Ruby opening up to being Bi-sexual. Now that the "Island doctor" started flirting with her.
Overall, it was an entertaining and light episode. Not everything has to be intellectually challenging, especially for a summer series.

Yeah, this show is one of my guilty pleasures to watch. It was obvious that Rosalyn Sanchez's character was trying to get Ruby to be more social with the other denizens of the island, but I still enjoyed the storyline (also, the island doctor is ridiculously cute). Yes, I was impressed with the Cuban storyline, they put some money into the recreation of Cuba, and it showed.
Also, it seems that you could clothe Rosalyn Sanchez in a burlap sack and she would look fine as heck. I think there are only 4 episodes left to go in this short season, and it would be cool if they spend a bit more time on Rosalyn Sanchez's back story, I know it is a family thing for her to remain on the Island, but any story that fills in the blanks would be appreciated.

Next episode is Sunday at 830 as a Melrose Place reunion of Daphne Zuniga, Josie Bissett, and Laura Leighton.
After last week's surprisingly strong episode tonight's was pretty meh.

This week's episode was very meh compared to how good last week was.
Indian girl with relationship troubles between her handsome white guy boyfriend and Indian guy who is approved by her parents. Meh. Pretty dull. Having the fantasy switch back and forth between partners made it unnecessarily convoluted.

Yeah, the ending of the fantasy was a cheat, she declares no marriage for me and what, the two potential guys in her life are just unceremoniously kicked to the curb? I was more entertained by the plane pilots fantasy that had Rourke's jeep get stuck in the mud. This weeks meh episode was so noticeable since it followed last weeks very strong episode.

The show has been fluffy but entertaining for the most part.
Next week with the Melrose Place women should be interesting.

I don't understand the rules of this Island. Did that woman just permanently time travel?

I think this past episode was the last one of season 1 (hoping Djariya is right and it gets renewed), and I enjoyed it. The Cuba episode was the high point of season, but this episode was not bad at all. It was a sad but sweet episode. I did like the line when Ruby's husband says who is she, when he noticed how she was having a hard time opening up to him.
Between Sanchez herself, and the beautiful location settings on the show I am down for another run next summer (it really is a perfect summer show).
Finally, yes...the "rules" of the island seem to be quite arbitrary, as it kept Ruby on the island, let the book woman live in the past on an alternate world, and Sanchez herself notes that the island seems to have the capacity to feel anger and lash out. Maybe with a second season we could get some clarity on what are the rules of the island. It does seem that the Island tends to let people stay in their fantasy for an unlimited amount of time if it knows they will not be missed in the real world (the dude who went to sleep for decades, and the book woman).

It was a good, very sweet finale. The island makes less sense than ever, but I'll keep watching if it gets a 2nd season - it can jump subject matter which is always refreshing.
If they do dip their toe into her cousins storyline, it could make for a cool storyline.

Renewed
I never commented on the finale, which aired a few months ago. I did like it. It was a sweet finale that brought some closure to Ruby's story.
Overall, the show isn't earth shattering compelling TV. But it was an entertaining and light breezy watch for the summer.

As the article also states, there will be a special 2 hour Holiday episode this December
Fans won’t have to wait until next summer for more Fantasy Island, however. Fox has ordered a special two-hour holiday episode, “Welcome to the Snow Globe,” which will air Tuesday, December 21 at 8 PM on Fox. Lindsay Craft, Eddie Cahill and Mackenzie Astin will guest star. In the episode, a businesswoman’s (Craft) fantasy of a perfect Christmas and meeting “Mr. Right” (Cahill) tests Roarke in unexpected ways. Meanwhile, Mr. Jones (Astin) faces his past, while a new Secret Santa tradition has Ruby and Javier looking to the future.

Yay to the Holiday special, and a 2 hour one to boot, very nice. Great news that this will be on again next summer.

Yeah, they held back 2 episodes on purpose and given the limited cast per episode and shooting it’s a cheap show.
it’s just not a very good show

It's definitely not what I'd consider a good show and is inconsistent as hell even by that standard, but I enjoys it.

I would say that this is a bold decision (it kind-of still is, because it feels like a summer show), but they cancelled enough shows recently that something had to air in the Fall, lol. I guess when it is chilly or wet outside one might appreciate watching a show that takes place on a tropical island and distracts you from the weather outside.
