My kids used to watch Wizards of Waverly Place so I knew Gomez. I agree she’s really good in this.

They kinda did a little spoiler when the episode started
Spoiler:
When they introduced the show, the voiceover (Poppy) said "Coming this fall, Only Murderers in the Building.

And regarding the end...

Spoiler:
I kinda liked the misdirect after the initial disappointment about the Alice "reveal". I wonder if Alice will return now.

Your first spoiler was a line used a couple times during Season 1 with Cinda's show (there's a time skip to a few months in the future in one episode IIRC), was also more or less the closing line to the season.

Never noticed. But it counts this time

Pretty enjoyable conclusion.

It seems this was intended to be a two season series with that ending tacked on but I look forward to more. With that last cameo it seems like everyone has officially been on this show

I liked the second season but the mystery wrap up didnít really land for me. I think I like everything about this show - characters, jokes, setting - EXCEPT how they resolve the mysteries themselves as theyíve been a bit too convoluted and too many red herrings.

(I donít buy the killerís motive at all this season nor did I think the actor really pulled it off)

I think I feel the same way. I really like the show. The cast is so fun, the jokes are great....but I don't care about the mystery.

Re: Only Murders in the Building (Hulu) - S: Short, Martin, Gomez - premieres 8/31/21

I wandered into this thread on Tuesday forgetting that the finale had aired. Thanks for no big spoilers, even though I would’ve blamed no one because it would’ve been all my fault.

Anyway, I thought the finale was fine, except with maybe one too many switchbacks. I have to admit that they really deked me when
Spoiler:
Charles got “stabbed” and I immediately thought of that EW quote that this was going to be the end for him, even though intellectually I knew that there’s supposed to be another season, and they wouldn’t do it without him.

I thought the season started out strong and withered in the middle. This finale was amazing - I was laughing the whole way through! Such great performances from Martin, Short and Gomez (I particularly love Selena's reactions to Steve and Martin's "old man" references - they go by so quickly you need to pay attention).

The actual solution of the murder wasn't nearly as important as the performances. The ensemble cast was great. The overacting of the gay guy, the amazing performance from the former-Broadway-actor-now-doorman, etc. All of it sold this show.

Re: Only Murders in the Building (Hulu) - S: Short, Martin, Gomez - premieres 8/31/21

I finally finished season two today and I loved it. I actually thought:
Spoiler:
Charles was dead after Steve Martin said he was going to retire soon. They even covered him up with a sheet

The finale was brilliantly done. I'm excited about season 3, but
Spoiler:
it looks like they're going to solve a murder outside of the building.

This show should have won more Emmys besides production design, guest actor, and sound mixing. I hope the brilliant season 2 finale wins some.

I thought season 2 got a little too convoluted, but still very enjoyable. If this really is Steve Martin's last project, I hope we get a bunch of seasons!

I imagine it's a tricky balance between keeping people interested and making it too easy.

I would think if something cool and interesting came his way he would unretire.
