SNL 10/24/20 (S46E04) -- H: Adele, MG: H.E.R.

Adele is the host with H.E.R. as the musical guest. This will be interesting.

In case it was missed in the previous week’s thread, there will be a new episode on 11/7 as well.

makes sense. They should have an episode after the election… Prime entertainment.

A thin Adele is something to look forward to

The best part was the announcement Mulaney is hosting next week.

I watched and re-watched the "Africa" sketch half a dozen times, laughing harder each time I saw it. Much like Adele.

I didn't get the Africa thing at all. Did enjoy Aldele trying to stifle a laugh though.

Will we get “David S. Pumpkins, Jr.”?

At least we will get another weird Broadway musical number.

Is Maya Rudolph a regular cast member again?

Really?

Really looking forward to Mulaney next week, first Burr hosting now this.

Yeah, it wasn't exactly a subtle sketch, was it? Middle aged divorcees going to Africa for sex vacations. Kate McKinnon wasn't helping at all, perfectly staying in character as Adele continued to lose it, which only made it even funnier. I nearly lost it (Adele too) when Heidi Gardner said "you can feel it in your stomach". And girls, you're gonna want that coconut water.

This may go down in SNL history as one of their all-time funniest bits.

Adele was great tonight and one of the best hosts in a long time. Where was Aidy Bryant and Cecily Strong though? Aidy was on last week during "Weekend Update" for a hot second. And Cecily the week before during the cold open. I've said this before, there are way too many cast members for a 90 minute show.

I bet some people will get ticked off with that Africe sketch lol.

That throwawy sketch with the old grandma with Maya should have been excised out of the episode.

Cecily Strong is working on another show in Canada that limits her time on SNL.

And Adie is shooting Shrill S3. Keenan is also shooting a show In Los Angeles but somehow still makes it in every week.

I should have said I didn’t really get why that Africa sketch went on for as long as it did. Seemed like a one joke idea only made funny by Adele’s struggles to keep from laughing.

I only caught the 1st half before falling asleep, but what I saw was decent.
Adele looks great! Also, yay for Mulaney next week!

So Adele is now Sarah Paulson's prettier, younger sister.

Uh oh. Overworked SNL cast members don't have a history of long and healthy lives.

Michael Bluth: "H.E.R.?"

Adele has some serious acting chops. I thought she was great. I always thought she was attractive, she looks even better now.

The Africa skit was really a one-note joke that went on too long. Thankfully Adele lost her shit a couple times and made it much better because of it.

Yea, I was gonna ask the same thing. Normally they do a cameo in the cold opening, but they're fitting her in anywhere they can.
I guess it's due to the shortage of cast members due to covid and other projects, etc.

They have two cast members now that are black women, so using Maya Rudolph to play Kristen Welker in the cold open is understandable from a "who's the most famous" POV, but (I think) kind of a slight to the others.

As for Rudolph turning up in the Grandma sketch and the jeans commercial, it just becomes obvious that the (Lorne's?) POV is that if Maya is going to be available (and willing) then we are just going to use her like a cast member.
No doubt Rudolph is more talented than Ego Nwodim or Punkie Johnson, but I still think it is a crappy way to treat the younger talent you've hired to be there.

However, that's show business . . . stars are stars, and they get treated like stars.

Thinking about it, I guess Adele has lost so much weight that they didn't need Aidy Bryant to do her impression on this episode. 😂

I thought the fortune teller from 2019 skit was the best. This episode was better than the first two of the season, IMO. Really looking forward to Mulaney next week.
