Watched all 10 episodes. Except for the one guy
Spoiler:
the friends 17 yr old brother

all the other guys that were into her seemed way older then her. Maybe thats the way it is in Paris?

Lily Collins is 31, but looks a lot younger.

But the character she was playing seemed more in her mid to early twenties.

I watched episode 8 last night and was a bit surprised:
Spoiler:
That the lead slept with a 17 year old and it was treated as a joke. You wouldn't think that would be politically correct in the me too world. How did that get past the Network heads?

Do as the Parisians do.

3 eps in, nice to look at, but not too terrible, I'll keep chipping away

My wife (who hates romantic pop shows like this) and me saw the trailer for this and her response was well there's a show made for you and sure enough I binged through all the episodes over the last week. Great cast and beautiful scenery. Lily Collins was great in the lead role and I loved the show.

I finished the season last night. I enjoyed it and I hope it gets renewed. Although I didn't really care for
Spoiler:
Emily sleeping with a 17 year old and it gets laughed. I do agree that all her love interests except for the chef seem a lot older than Emily. I would assume the character's around 26 since she mentions she has a master's degree even though Collins is 31.

The age of consent in France is 15.

I know, but I'm surprised that got by Netflix executives in a me too era. I just thought it was in very poor taste.

The MeToo movement is more of a US thing. I didn’t find anything wrong with it really, especially knowing how European cultures are compared to ours.

It was a cute show, still feels like it’s lacking something. The pacing feels a bit off and they’re trying to figure out if they want it to be Sex in the City for the new generation but with social media, or that they want to make it its own thing. I’m glad the episodes are only 30 minutes though.

That scene also doesn't have anything to do with the "Me too" movement so not sure why it keeps being mentioned.

I forgot to point that out as well. It doesn’t have anything to do with it. For those who are sensitive to this, I’d recommend skipping any future seasons. Especially since one of the storylines has Emily getting a wife’s blessing to bang her husband.

I'm just saying if that happened in the US, the main character would be thrown in jail. I just thought it was really odd for a show airing in the US made by MTV. They should have at least made the character 18. Having the main character of a show in her mid twenties sleeping with a 17 year old isn't a good look. I don't care if it's in France and legal or not. It's not a good look especially when they just laugh it off. I don't understand how it got passed standards and practices. As I said I liked the show, but that storyline shouldn't have aired.

Because it's Netflix and they don't have standards and practices like Broadcast TV. They could put porn on their platform if they wanted.

It's a Netflix show that's produced by MTV. I'm fairly certain like Sex and the City and tons of other shows, they filmed alternate versions for TV broadcasting. That version will be rated accordingly. But this was TV-MA already, so I'm not sure what the issue would be. I think it's more of the whole US culturistic situation you aren't happy with. It's not made to solely cater to US viewers.

Actually it was originally a Paramount Network show that was originally made for a US audience. It was moved to Netflix in July. Cable networks have standards and practices. I know someone who works in standards and practices for Turner in Atlanta. I just thought it was odd. You all obviously disagree with me. No use in discussing it any more.

Wait, there's no more "sex with 17 year olds" on network TV? I thought that was like the staple of the CW (well that and superhero shows)?

It's usually with age-appropriate characters (teenagers with other teenagers). This is different. They essentially make light statutory rape.

It's not though. This predates MeToo but look at stuff like Dawson's Creek, Gossip Girl and Riverdale.

Except like stated before it is not statutory rape. Even if it was in the US she had no idea he was 17 and was specifically told the brother was over age by his sister. She had no reason to think otherwise.

Trying to American-splain this is pretty amusing.

Re: Emily in Paris (Netflix) -- (Created by Darren Star) -- S: Lily Collins

In Dawson's Creek and Riverdale there were consequences and repercussions for it. This was just laughed off. Not knowing someone's age doesn't make it less illegal in the US at least. This isn't a French made show. It's an American made show shot in Paris with American actors, producers, and writers that was produced for an American cable network. That storyline shouldn't have been written and made air. It's a blemish on a good season.
