Also, the Fargo mob guy they are selling the guns to (for loyalty against the Italians) appeared in season 2.

But point taken about this feeling less like the typical Fargo season so far, although it has had some moments. But the classic Fargo music came in at the end of this episode (as the camera pulls away from Doctor Senator's body). I think things are going to be getting very "Fargo" from here on out. I am looking forward to the rest of the season.

Also want to mention I love the episode run times. We are getting episode lengths as if the show were on HBO or such, a full hour without commercials. Part of the appeal of the series is that it takes it's time and builds atmosphere. This is not a show that should feel rushed trying to get to the next cliffhanger.

Yeah, speaking of the different tone, you could barely tell it’s winter this season, aside from the coats, snowball throwing and the brother slipping on the ice. Though I’m guessing winter in Kansas City isn’t as crazy as it is further north.

Are you referring to someone in the Movie? Because if you are talking about a link to an iconic character in Season 2 (which takes place 29 years later), I take that as a given.

Season 2.

A few people I have discussed the show with totally missed the (as yet unconfirmed) connection. Season 2 was 5 years ago with another separate season sandwiched in-between so I can't fault them. I didn't want to be too obvious in case you hadn't made it yet because it's a good one as it is one of my favorite characters of all four seasons.

This season doesn't feel very Fargo-ish. It's not bad, but it's also not particularly interesting, quirky or exciting.
Compared to previous seasons (1 and 2 in particular), it kinda just "is". Not much happens, and no character is really being developed ... yet, of course, much can happen in the remaining episode, but it feels like a different show.

Agreed.

Even Olyphant seems out of place. But I am so used to seeing him as a lawman so much in other contexts.

He honestly seems like a parody of his previous characters.

They slapped on some Fargo-ish music and have a character (Oraetta) with that Fargo-ish accent, but that's not enough to give it a Fargo vibe.

They probably should've given this season a different show name as people are expecting the same feel and quality as the previous seasons (less so with S3 though).

On it's own, this season is decent - but not great.
It's has potential to be very good, but it needs to move forward a little faster as we're already 5 episodes in. Luckily it has an extra episode more than the previous seasons, so there's more time to kick it up a few notches.

I loved Loy's having enough with his wife's shit and just shut her up... and his mother-in-law too.

I don't know if this means much, but futon critic says that tonight is episode 411. Episode 406 will be played next week. On initial look, you wonder why the hell they would play episodes out of order. But from what I recall, shows sometimes shoot episodes in different orders and it doesn't mean it affects the story.

Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy the heck out of the show, but I was hoping for a little more out of this episode. It still leans more towards a straight up gangster show than "Fargo." And hopefully they ease off on the "Loy Cannon: Master of Parables" bit. He's averaging two or three per episode. I think Rock does a good job with the character and doesn't need to rely on that crutch to develop tension.

As for Olyphant, it does start to smack of stunt casting unless there is something that we don't see coming, which I hope is the case. Or they could go all in and maybe next episode the Italians will bring in some extra soldiers from Milwaukee, including one "Arturo Fonzarelli" as played by Henry Winkler.

Noah Hawley said in a recent podcast that during the shutdown he was able to re-edit the show, which resulted in episode 5 being made into 2. So 411 is really the new 6th episode, but "produced" as the 11th.

That probably explains why these two are only about an hour each vs the almost 90 minute episodes previously.

Not sure how you could see gun fire from a floor vent.

Oh. Maybe if it’s pitch dark downstairs? Gunfire casts momentary light?

How did the girls know where he was hiding out? Did the OCD detective tell Loy?

The floor vent will be connected to a heat duct that runs within the walls - the light's not going to travel up the duct.

Some older homes would have vents through the floor to help heat upper rooms.

Even as a fan of the show I have to say that whole scene was a little ridiculous. Roadrunner vs Coyote like someone in the thread brought up a few episodes back.

Yeah that cop told Loy. He mentions it later while being forced to also bring Loy’s son back.

Are people still watching this show?

I'm still really enjoying the individual performances, but the plot is just unbelievable. We're not in Kansas anymore, eh?

I watched it last night. I like the B&W, but the story didn't move forward much.

Spoiler:
What was the significance of the billboard? I know in the 50s they were obsessed with futuristic homes and automobiles.

Every individual episode has some great scenes, great visuals, or great dialogue to enjoy, but parts of the story seem like they are from a different show. I can't pass judgement until I see if/how they bring it all together, but so far I don't think it is a very good season.
