This show is hitting on all cylinders IMO. I love everything about it. While I agree that the conflicts from S1 made the show poignant and not just sappy, the lack of any real conflict this season (so far) hasn't diminished the show at all, at least not for me. Let's see where this goes - if it turns into just another sitcom with weekly one-off wackiness, or if it continues to resonate beyond the joke-of-the-week. I'm still loving this.

Last episode was great!! Easily the best of the season.
I however am not caring for Nate. I hope they take his story someplace good. You can tell from the glances coach keeps giving him, things are off. Also, spitting in the mirror and walking off was a major a-hole move. I feel like it would have been more in character for him to slap himself.
I hope this isn’t a Ted / Rebecca thing that’s brewing.
Roy’s face lighting up by cell phone needs to be a jif if it isn’t already….or a gif if that’s your thing.

I agree with the others that season is lighter on conflict so far and hope that they up the stakes a bit, but the wife and I are still enjoying it a lot. I think it works because they’re pretty damn good about making Lasso himself as realistic as the character can be. He isn’t a rube. He isn’t a prude. He isn’t preachy. He doesn’t ignore or disbelieve in the shitty things in life. He’s not always happy. He’s just fully committed to trying to approach every situation with as much kindness as he can muster, which is usually quite a lot. Things tend to work out in his favor more than is believable, but they ground the character enough to make him fairly endearing, when he could very easily be incredibly grating. I realize he falls on the side of the latter for some, but I think they’ve done an impressive job at keeping him the former. The supporting characters are also generally strong, especially Kent, but the whole thing would fall apart if they didn’t do such a good job of walking a fine and tricky line with Lasso.

IMO the only conflict this show needs is the team winning or not. It's OK for a show to be 98% upbeat, without any character drama.

I had expected this season to be about their struggle to climb back into the PL, but whatever story they are telling doesn't seem very interested in Football as a competitive sport.

And do you think there is ANY drama this season about team wins or losses? Hell they didn't even show their first W in the Champions League. It doesn't seem like Ted cares about the losses. Or Rebecca. Or the press. Or the fans. Last year there was the prospect of relegation hanging over their heads, now they don't have that threat and it feels like the only consequence is that there's no more pressure.

I liked the character development of the first season. Seeing people work through their issues and winning each other over.
This season is all well and fine, but there's very little connective tissue this time out. It's not bad, but it's now a more ordinary sitcom, something the exceptional first season managed to avoid.
IMO of course. There were different components that worked for different people, and considering this was shot during a varying degree of lockdown they seem to have done a pretty solid job.

Well, I think that no one can complain about the lack of conflict now. And that was a swerve I didn't see coming. Bravo.

Championship. The Champions League is a European club competition contested by the best teams in Europe. The Championship is the second-tier of English football, competed by teams that are decidedly not the best in Europe.
I agree. I mean I never expected

Didn't expect who was at the other end of the dating app, but knew it wouldn't be Ted. Very good episode. The spitting thing with Nate is obnoxious..

Great episode - and I think all the episodes leading up to it this season were needed for it to work as well as it did. I’m comfortable trusting this creative team to make the show work.

So basically, you could interpret the extra sweetness of Ted that has been a complaint for some this season has actually been him going overboard on being happy due to the arrival of the psychiatrist who sees through it. All the while he is actually falling apart on the inside.

S2 e4 & 5 have been my favorite of series thus far. The x-mas and then rom-communism eps were amazing. Simply a brilliant show, done by brilliant people, with perfect actors and it just keeps getting better and better.

It really needed those episodes to get to this point. It's a wonderful series. And I hope the naysayers can stick it up their bum about the sweetness of the show.

After watching the first season three times (with different people), I finally caught up with season 2 and can read the thread.
I liked season 2 despite the lack of conflict, but felt season 1 really ramped up when the character drama increased so we’ll see how it goes from here.
My favorite moment of the season so far.

Just finished today's episode.
Nate is a tool.
Good episode otherwise.
Oh, and Jamie's correction of Roy's call during practice was great. Roy's facial expression was as he was putting the pieces together was great.
