I remember those and that’s why Apple’s Ted Lasso feels so familiar, yet expands incredibly on a simple character he did a few times. He goes through a lot of emotion and nails it. Especially in S1e5. Just great series and like Queen’s Gambit in game only, you don’t have to care about chess or soccer. Both shows are just so much more. I still could care less about either game.

Here's a Lasso segment from 7 years ago from NBC. It has over 16M views. I guess they were using these to help promote soccer in the states.

This is a brilliant fucking show. Just when you think it peeled all the layers, it just folds back more. Jason Sudeikis and Bill Lawrence (whose created some of my favorite shows in Scrubs, Cougar Town, Spin City) are genius. It’s not the most original premise ever, but they make it so fresh and so good. This will win best Emmy for comedic performance (Sudeikis), though he shows much more than just comedy in this, and best comedy series or limited comedy or whatever they call it. If it doesn’t I will give a Blu-ray of my choice to the first person that pm’s me prior to this post date.. I will let you know the lucky pm’er tomorrow or later tonight.

It was so subtle and then goes right over Lasso's head with Higgins response. :up:
Unless Jamie wanted to stay in the Premiere league.. I'm pretty sure some team in the MLS would have taken him. :p

Roy has been amazing. Just amazing. He’s a big part of why I think so strong thus far. Him and relationship with Keeley (and I’ve always loved Juno Temple). His little girls team, niece, has all been fucking gold. Hell, I’m even starting to like Jamie a little. Higgins with his desk troubles and that evil psychiatrist. Rebecca being human. I loved S1 so much, but dammit if I don’t love S2 even more. It’s a brilliant fucking show and worth every bit of my $5/mo.

However, thus far my favorite scene in all eps so far has been Ted’s dart game with Rupert. It was fucking brilliant and I’ve watched it like 5 times already.

So I’m five shows into season one.
I might have missed something.

The motivation of the woman who owns the team.

She wants the team to be terrible just simply to spite her ex who loved that team.
Its not for financial reasons?

Ok, that’s what I thought.
So this is pretty much my favorite show in decades.
love everything about it but this motivation doesn’t make sense to me.

She owns the team now so how does it make sense to run it into the ground.
He doesn’t own the team anymore so destroying it doesn’t hurt him it just hurts her.

Would make much more sense if she did everything in her power to make the team better then anything he ever could do.

Wouldn’t that actually “show him” and stick it to him better then ruining the team.

Ruining the team just leaves her open to people saying she ruined the team.
Since I obviously haven’t seen the entire season or S2 yet maybe it eventually becomes addressed.

Emotions make people do stupid shit. It is very evident the team will eventually get good. She will then take pride in the turn around and becoming winners, something he could never do.

I was so ready for ep 3 and even though I saw it listed, I then checked the date. The end of ep 2 was just fantastic and a little jaw dropping at end. Just gets better and better. I can’t believe no one took me up on my free Blu-ray contest.
