Re: ‘Animaniacs’ Reboot Being Developed By Steven Spielberg, Amblin TV and Warner Bro
I never understood why they would add the most annoying Animaniacs character to such a witty cartoon like Pinky & the Brain, but I suspect it was a gambit to lure in more girls as viewers.

Animaniacs (Reboot) - Hulu - 11/20/20
Kind of interested in watching new episodes of this. I watched the original show as a kid and enjoyed it. I’d also like to see new episodes of Pinky and the Brain.
It’s time for Animaniacs. They continue to be zany to the max. So just sit back and relax,
you’ll laugh till you collapse — provided you have Hulu.
It’s been years since the show was first announced, but finally it’s almost here: The revival of the 1990s animated series Animaniacs is ready for its big premiere. The show, famously produced both in the ’90s and now by Steven Spielberg, will return with new episodes on Hulu on November 20.
Per Variety, this is the first of two new seasons coming to Hulu in the next year. The show will feature the Warner brothers, Yakko and Wakko, and their sister Dot — plus segments featuring Pinky and the Brain, the mice with dreams of world domination who started on Animaniacs and became popular enough to garner their own spinoff show:
The premiere date news comes over two years after Hulu handed the revival a two-season series order. This new version of the family friendly cartoon will see Warner siblings, Yakko and Wakko, and the Warner sister Dot, have a great time wreaking havoc and mayhem in the lives of everyone they meet. Joining the trio will be fan-favorites Pinky and the Brain, who will also return to continue their quest for world domination in 13 episodes. A second season consisting of 13 more episodes will be heading to Hulu sometime in 2021.
The original Animaniacs ran for 99 episodes on Fox and the Kids WB all through the mid-1990s. All of the original voice actors of the Warners and Pinky and the Brain will return for the new episodes. As a guy who grew up on the original episodes, I can’t wait to watch the new ones with my kids. I also look forward to explaining the concept of Goodfeathers to them, and then watching Goodfellas with them so they can properly get the joke.

Hope they got rid of all the support characters that didn’t work, like the rich hippos.
But I’m hoping it’s fun otherwise.

I’m excited that this is coming back including some of the “annoying” supporting characters. I love to see the Goodfeathers, Mindy and Buttons, and Slappy Squirrel.

It's my understanding that some of the less popular characters aren't coming back and changes have been made to certain characters to "update" them for today's audiences.

It appears only Pinky and the Brain are a part of this new show. I'd love to see the Goodfeathers again but I don't know if today's audience would know who they are parodying. Slappy Squirrel would be great as well but I don't think Sheri Stoner is involved in this reboot.

Regrettably, the show's original creator and showrunner, Tom Ruegger, and several other major creative players, were not even asked to come back for this revival.
I do know that Paul Rugg (who was a writer and voice actor on the original show and Freakzoid) was asked to be involved but declined, and composers Steve and Julie Bernstein are back (a bit of a coup, since the original show used a full orchestra, which is seldom done in TV animation).
But not only was Tom not asked to come back, but neither were his son Nathan or writer Sherri Stoner. So, in the new episodes you won't see Slappy and Skippy Squirrel, the characters voiced by Sherri and Nate respectively. I guess there's a silver lining in that the characters won't be recast, their presence will still be sorely missed.
So, while I have little concerns over the new episodes' quality apart from these controversies, they still cast a shadow over it all.

I'm keeping my expectations very low.
I love the original show. It might even be among my top 10 favorite shows ever. But the lack of Ruegger, Rugg, and Stoner concerns me. They were key players. While having the original voice cast back was definitely necessary, so was bringing back the original creative team as much as possible.
The original show did a decent job of balancing timeless humor with pop culture references. I hope they can still toe that line without the show's shone shifting heavily into social commentary. It's already a bummer (if true) that they decided to eliminate Hello Nurse because, you know, 2020.
Finally, if it's true that the show will focus solely on the Warners and Pinky and the Brain, they'll have to completely revamp the theme song in order to eliminate references to the remaining cast.

I went to the Animaniacs in Concert show and that was incredible so if the original voice actors say this new series is fun, then I'm in. These are characters they all enjoy and love so much that I don't think they'd take part in something that could hurt it.

That's awesome!!!! Some of the original creative people might not be involved but that clip is encouraging that they got the right tone to these new episodes. I hope a new clip of Pinky and the Brain will be released soon.

Unfortunately for me, they haven't indicated if this is coming to Canada so if no Canadian Network or Streaming services will air it here, I might have to find other means to watch it...

The tone of this clip is spot-on. If this is an indicator of how the entire reboot is being handled, I'm happy. Updated animation aside, this would have fit right in with the old episodes.

I've seen internet outrage saying the animation looks different but I don't think it does except being in HD. The Warner's still look the same and I love Spielberg as the stand in for John Hammond.

There’s a picture out there showing how the character models were tweaked but it’s very minor. They knew not to go overboard with that kind of thing.
