Re: Star Wars: The Bad Batch (Disney+) - premieres 5/4/2021

Watched the first two episodes with my girlfriend tonight. Pretty good start so far I would say.

I wasn’t sure about this group of characters, but they’re growing on me. Omega seems a tad on the annoying side just in terms of being the overly ambitious kid character who has a knack for getting into trouble.

Crosshair turning on the team seemed telegraphed throughout the premiere episode. I don’t really mind that it’s just the other four on the team.

I like the era the show is set in. Interesting to see the early days of the Empire.

Overall I’m happy with the show thus far. Looking forward to seeing how things progress, and who all might turn up eventually. I’m still holding out for cameos by Rex, Ahsoka, and more.

Re: Star Wars: The Bad Batch (Disney+) - premieres 5/4/2021

I just cannot get into this. I have tried Clone Wars a few times and just cannot do it. The overly-juvenile catering aspect kills it for me every time. I tried to watch this, thinking maybe, just maybe, it would capture my attention ... but no. I got about 30 minutes in and had no interest.

I did get through Rebels and enjoyed it for the most part. It did have moments of being too childish though.

That said ... those Bad Batch posters are pretty cool looking, especially the first one. Disney points are burning a hole in my virtual pocket ...

Where exactly do they release the Disney+ posters (other than occasionally reaching Disney Rewards)?

Pretty good episode.

Spoiler:
the moment when Crosshair and his new crew go to find Saw Gerrera but only find the civilians, and Crosshair orders them to be executed was pretty dark.

I like the members of the Bad Batch, but am still somewhat iffy on Omega. Definitely feels like a Disney mandate to me.

totally digging this.

Omega is annoying... hopefully there's some big reveal about what she is really all about... maybe eventually some accelerated aging or something would be good.

love the armor variants and love Wrecker.

Really good episode this morning (S01E04 - Cornered)... and we see the introduction of
Spoiler:
Ming-Na Wen's Fennec Shand.

Loved the story thread of how they got the credits and wove that into fixing the ship. That was fun.

Good sky chase... and another Loth-cat sighting.

I really liked that Fennec showed up. I wonder if her traveling companion will make an appearance (Boba)?

Omega is definitely a nod to the kids, but there are some grown up scenes with her and Hunter. He is trying to learn how to be a father to her and that is really touching. With all the heat she is drawing, she is obviously a valuable clone. There is a special power about her. You have to wonder if the Caminoians worked some M count into her blood because she seemed to know what Crosshair was going to do before he did it.

Do we know if TBB is pre- or post- The Mandalorian?

Answer:
Spoiler:

TBB takes place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, in the early days of the Empire.

The Mandalorian takes place about five years after Return of the Jedi.

Boba Fett could put in an appearance in The Bad Batch, but he would be a teenager at that point in the timeline. An even younger Boba Fett was in an arc on The Clone Wars, alongside Bossk and Aurra Sing, so he was active at that time.

I don't think it was mentioned whether or not Boba Fett and Fennec Shand knew each other before season one of The Mandalorian, but considering their characters, it's probably safe to assume they've crossed paths before.

That’s right. I should have known that. Thanks for clarifying that for me.

I thought that as well but if Omega is force sensitive, why didn't she feel her new friend's intent in this episode.

Good point. She does seem emotionally attached to the Bad Batch clones though. Maybe that's a factor.

Re: Star Wars: The Bad Batch (Disney+) - premieres 5/4/2021

I got caught up on all four episodes on Friday, and as someone who has not watched The Clone Wars, and only a handful of episodes of Rebels, I really enjoyed this show. I am more than okay that I went in cold and did not even watch The Clone Wars eps where these folks were first introduced. I will say that the show can be quite touching and emotional at times, and also more than a bit dark and adult, such as when the "follow the mission" clone forces his team to do the unthinkable when it comes to the civilians they have cornered at gunpoint.

At times, the colors on this show really pop such as on the episode when The Bad Batch lands on the planet looking to lay low. The animation of the sky and natural life on the planet was beautiful to look at. I do enjoy a show with bright moments (visual and character moments) sprinkled among the darkness. If this series was all grim and gritty I am not sure I would have enjoyed it as much.

I have to admit I've given up on this series. I liked the first episode, but have been bored with the rest. It's not that the show is "bad'...it's just that it's soooo "average." Just too much good TV out there for me to spend 30 minutes a week on this.

I've thought about letting them build up and then binge a bunch of them (in a movie like mode)... but for now, I've got the time to watch them.

Oh I didn’t even put it together that the bounty hunter was Fennec Shand. Good catch on that.

The fourth episode was good I would say. I’m enjoying the show a lot more than I expected to so far. The sky chase was good, and I liked how Hunter tried to pass Echo off as a droid

Re: Star Wars: The Bad Batch (Disney+) - premieres 5/4/2021

Fifth episode had a bizarre missed opportunity. I thought the people held prisoner with Muchi were Malakili and Giran, the keepers! I thought, wow, I love that connection. Then the Bad Batch said get out of here, you're free. Bummer. You even had a green-skinned Giran and a heavyset Malakili in those prisoners. I mean, come on, if they're not going to write this stuff, they might as well let me do it.

In episode 6, “Decommissioned”, the Bad Batch meets up with
Spoiler:
the Martez Sisters from The Clone Wars.

I wonder who they were reporting to at the end?

Oh, and poor Wrecker, I have a feeling he’s gonna snap soon.

Yeah, I’m wondering about Wrecker too. My girlfriend thought him having a headache in the fifth episode was indicating it, but I wasn’t sure since he’s always ramming into things. Hoping that if his chip does activate the rest of the Batch will be able to shut it off.

Spoiler:
Also as far as Rafa and Tracer- they could be reporting to Ahsoka or another ally like Rex, Bail, or Mon Mothma as you mentioned.

Maybe someone connected to Ahsoka… like Rex.

We have a winner... it was Rex.

And for me the only downside of this ep was...
Spoiler:
... now that their inhibitor chips are out, the mystery or tension is gone. I thought it would play a larger part in the storyline.

Oh, and for those who didn’t know, Rhea Perlman is the voice of Cid.

Re: Star Wars: The Bad Batch (Disney+) - premieres 5/4/2021

Spoiler:
I was so happy to see Rex show up in the latest episode. Hope he’ll pop in from time to time. One of my favorite Star Wars characters.

Also glad that the inhibitor chips have been removed from the Batch. Although I kind of agree with Goldberg74 that it was a good element of what might happen to trigger the others I feel like doing that once with Crosshair is enough, and that the show shouldn’t rely on the same plot device over and over.
