Btw....under the "Extras" section there is a 60min BORG ASMR. It's the Borg Lower Decks scene from last weeks ep looped.

Hot damn, that is Star Trek. Stripping the hull plates, joystick maneuvering, Cetacean Ops (and they’re horndogs!), the Pakled subplot.
Sonya Gomez!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im going to be that guy and say the showrunners for Disco and Picard need to take a lesson. This was damn fine storytelling in 22 minutes.

Dolphins are really like that. They'll jump right out of the water and start going to town on women. (And some men, too.)

Yeah, it’s 16 years between her first appearance and this one. Not completely out of the realm of possibility but still doable. Say she’s 23 or so in QWho, then 39 now. That’s doable.

Almost done with the first season (now that I get Par+ for free I am jumping into the animated Star Trek shows, Prodigy is next on my list), and this is a really well done show. I am not even close to a hardcore Trekkie, but I have seen enough Trek over the years to appreciate the show and the fandom that has grown around all the Trek shows. Little bits like watching folks scrub clean filters and other scut work like that help make the show an enjoyable watch.
It also works that the Captain's daughter is always driving her mom nuts to the point where the Captain tries what she can to get her transferred to another ship. This is a nice and breezy binge, since the eps are less than 30 minutes (or a tiny bit longer than that).
Jeez, already on ep 7 of season 2, this show really is a breeze to watch. The show has done a great job of creating characters that grow on you, and I appreciate that there is not a main character that I am supposed to hate or something like that. I will finish this up, then start Prodigy.

Absolute best news of the announcement today. This show is tops at taking the piss out of Trek while showing how much it truly loves Trek.

So decided to give Lower Decks a try since I have Paramount+ for a while. The first episode I found almost unbearable. It’s so stupid and not really that funny at all. Not sure if it gets better as it goes or if it’s more of the same. Some references were fun, but all in all I just don’t think it’s a show I’d ever enjoy watching.

It gets better... a lot better.

I was also a bit underwhelmed at first, but the writers really found their footing pretty quickly. So, so good.

I loved it from the start, but I will agree it gets even better. Yes, it really leans into the humor, but it doesn't rely on "rule of funny" as much. Even the goofiest stuff only feels slightly exaggerated from what we saw in many of the live action shows. And it dives deep into Trek lore, and not in a cheap, "Big Bang Theory making hollow references" kind of way. It actually acknowledges that Star Trek has shown us some weird shit over the years and it says "let's get weirder!".
I think my avatar can tell you who my favorite character is.

I watched five or so episodes while I had free P+ and loved it. Will likely buy the set or re-visit the subscription someday, but you know, so many shows and so little time.

Prodigy is aimed at a lower age level, but it's still got some cool stuff and the way Janeway is used is lot's of fun.

Unless you're referring to something else Cetacean ops is actually a real thing that was put in the technical manual and other diagrams of the Enterprise D. But has never been acknowledged on screen until now. I love it. I can't believe they actually put it in Trek so funny. And the fact they were horn dogs and the fact that they put some random switch at the bottom but the fact that it wasn't operable with flippers AND the fact that everyone was all insulted whenever it was suggested that the cetaceans do it themselves.
Finally rewatched the 1st season and binged the 2nd one. OMG its killing me that the seasons are only 10 episodes long. They fit so much content in that it just leaves me wanting more.
Some highlights:
Shaka when the walls fell. They have a Tamarian in starfleet!! That was so hilarious and awesome.
Small details: like when Mariner is in the Cardassian interview room on the holodeck. How many lights were there?
Them always having to specify a temperature whenever they use the replicator
Shax suddenly coming back but with no explanation to the the lower decks.
Tom Paris commemorative plate Why does ST have so many commemorative plates IRL?
The bridge crew trading places with lower decks and what assignment do they have? Stacking crates. And of course they're weird shaped crates.
OMG PRANK CALLING ARMUS!!
The Pakleds continue to be hilarious adversaries.
The return of Jeffrey Combs to Star Trek!!! And as a hilariously cliched evil super computer.
Tendi failing her holo test because the failed to give an honorable death to a klingon paralyzed with a spinal injury.
Klingon lower decks. And Vulcan lower decks. And Pakled lower decks. And Borg lower decks. And then all the stories actually converge at the end? In a 23 minute cartoon? Come on get outta here with that awesomeness.
Piloting the ship in joystick mode by direct sight from the bridge wearing EV suits? That's pretty epic.

It’s really a great show and I hate that so many people won’t give it a chance since it’s animated.
If you want something else to watch that’s animated, Prodigy is pretty fun. It’s aimed at the younger set, but still has some fun stuff and even some good callbacks to other Trek shows.
