I was turned off even before the opening credits. I stuck it out for the whole episode but yeah I'll be skipping this series.

I enjoyed it for what it was. Not great, but has potential. I can waste 1/2 hour a week on this.

I really liked it. Yes, it's a comedy, but it still fits within Star Trek storytelling. I could totally see a regular Trek episode about a rage virus, but this gave the perspective the show's premise is all about.

I liked it. I see it growing on me. I'm fascinated with the Captain and the reveal of who she is to the wild Ensign. I watched the extras over the weekend and you CANNON WHORES..I mean "Real Fans" ... will be happy to hear the creator of the show is all about RESPECTING CANNON. He said his "jam" was TNG and that's when this show is set. You can tell by the uniforms and ship design. He said it's set a little bit after ST:Nemesis.

Acktchually! It's spelled "canon"

But, yes, I could tell that it was made by people who understood how Trek works. I made the comment in the Orville thread about how they were able to use the TNG structure to get right into storytelling, and LD has the same advantage.
It's set just a year after Nemesis, so still the TNG era, and all of the shipboard protocol seemed more or less legit in my opinion.

Now, I'm wondering if they could ever do a time-travel crossover with the original animated series ?

May I ask what you think of Rick & Morty? Mind you, I can understand why would like R&M humor, but not want it in Trek (quite understandably, actually, and I say that as a huge R&M fan)?

Iíve really never watched it. My stance on Rick and Morty from what Iíve seen is that itís fine for people who like that type of humor, but itís also a self-contained thing and has a certain style. Itís not trying to fit in with an established franchise like this is trying to do.

All those saying that the creator loves Star Trek and is paying homages- sure thatís great, but it still doesnít really fit the style of classic Trek at all. Itís twisting Star Trek into something itís not to try and gain the audience of a different style of show. Paying homage with sight gags and jokes doesnít necessarily mean that much in my opinion.

All true.

But R&M's humor has been compared to RedLetterMedia's, so I'm afraid I can't imagine a little irony if the RLM end up disliking Lower Decks.

Funny, at least one or two people on the RLM subreddit have said that Lower Decks looks harmless. So at least I'm not alone.

While the Rick and Morty influence is certainly there, this is still a true Trek show. It ďfitsĒ into the rest of the universe, itís just funnier.
Hell, itís a better fit than Disco or even Picard, though thatís not a high bar.

Not too bad. It's mostly one character so far that's over the top.

Do you mean Beckett? The black lady ensign? She is a bit much, but that's her problem. She's smart but she can't focus it into her career very well. She mentioned she'd been a higher rank before but was demoted back to Ensign, like Ro Laren was, but for less serious reasons apparently.

Considering her parents im guessing she's like a Preachers' Kid. Most of them are wild and rebellious.

Yeah, that's a great comparison. The child of two high ranking officers, she's gotta be under a lot of pressure.

Yep, was not sure if they were just going to have everyone act like that all the time. Even within the context of the show shes too over the top right now.

I enjoyed it for what it was, a fun little cartoon that takes place in a universe I'm somewhat familiar with, I'll keep watching.

First episode is free on Amazon Prime right now. Couldn't make it through the whole thing. I just don't find whatever passes for comedy these days funny.

Ep2 was decent enough. Like that it's canon but doesn't take itself seriously.
