Also, it might be preferable to auditioning and finding roles. You can write for multiple shows. A lot of "behind-the-camera" folk make an awfully good living at it, and have careers that last well past the "shelf life" of on-screen talent.

Fuck that.
Play some of the stuff from the 80s that Lorne Michaels pretends don't exist.
I want to see them replay the Eddie Murphy era ("Kill the White People," Christmas Carvel Cakes (Santa's Jingle Juggs, Peter the Yule Log), Gumby, Mr Robinson's Neighborhood) and the season with Billy Crystal and Christopher Guest.
I'm so fucking tired of all of this 1990+ stuff they keep playing over and over again. I want to see the stuff I haven't seen since I was in grade school.

It is the SPORTS network of NBC we're talking about. But seriously, no Wayne Gretzky?
And I still say the best SNL was the early 90s. Yes, better than original Not Ready For Prime Time Players. Maybe not as groundbreaking, but it was a murderer's row of comedic talent: Chris Farley, Chris Rock, Phil Hartman, Dana Carvey, Mike Myers, Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider, David Spade, Tim Meadows, Kevin Nealon, Dennis Miller. The only thing missing in that era was top-level female comedians. Jan Hooks, Nora Dunn, and Julia Sweeney were good, but could rarely carry a sketch by themselves.

Guess Hulk Hogan does not count since his show was in the 80's.
VH1 classic aired a lot of those 80's in one weekend in 2015 for the 40th anniversary.
Maybe Peacock the streaming network will fill that void?

That Scotch tape store sketch was a real clunker though, wasn't it?
Dan Ackroyd's WU bit was sheer talent, and any current or recent SNL actor would have broken character in 10 seconds.

Yeah, it's kind of weird when you realize that Sid Vicious was still alive at the time. His story is the stuff of legend at this point, and it's strange to see them making jokes about him while his story was playing out and nearing its end.

I was alive during that time period, but neither listening to punk rock or watching SNL (elementary school age). Living in NY (upstate), we got Sid Vicious stories nearly every day. He was a celebrity star long before the days of reality TV. Nowadays any accounts are done with the knowledge he'd soon be dead. But '78 was just a steady tabloid diet of "what will he do next?" when we all should have seen it coming.
So yeah, this was a good look back on what those days were like.

This is what the Jost haters think though I have no problem with him.

Colin Jost s telling all. In his new memoir, A Very Punchable Face, the comedian, 38, opens up about his life — from growing up in Staten Island to landing a job at Saturday Night Live to getting engaged to Scarlett Johansson.
He will be ready to move on “in the near future” from his job at the NBC variety show, where he currently is a head writer, he says in the book.
“I’ve basically built an emotional escape hatch in my work and in my relationships, and my greatest fear — besides my trypophobia, or fear of holes — is leaving SNL and never finding anything I like doing more than SNL,” Jost, who joined the show in 2014, writes in the book. “The other part about leaving SNL is that it means growing up. Because no one who works at SNL is really an adult.”

Jost is 38? I thought he was quite a bit younger than that for some reason.

I like Jost a lot... he seems genuine and clever. I think the show will definitely suffer if he's not there... but there's always some other hidden gem waiting in the wings. Given the current cast, I don't know who that is (and it's not Davidson, IMO).

Some good news
Saturday Night Live is plotting some sort of a return to Studio 8H ahead of November’s Trump vs. Biden showdown.
NBC is reportedly in talks with SNL boss Lorne Michaels about ways to resume in-studio production this fall, according to our sister site Variety. While discussions are still ongoing — and any return would depend upon how the country is coping with the coronavirus pandemic at the time production resumes — one potential approach would be to make the show in a “controlled environment,” which would eliminate unnecessary personnel and, most likely, the studio audience. Such a strategy has already been employed by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (also produced by Michaels), which on July 13 resumed production from 30 Rockefeller Plaza, albeit in a different studio. (Similar to Fallon, TBS’ Conan shifted production to the historic Largo at the Coronet in West Hollywood on July 6.
