Re: Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian (Disney+) -- docuseries -- premieres 5/4/20

The 2nd episode was about the Legacy of Star Wars and what the current team of The Mandalorian has done to honor the legacy of what George Lucas. The round table had Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy and some special effects people from ILM. They also intercutted the directors as well. Overall, I thought it was an interesting discussion. Favreau set the stage about how Star Wars influenced him growing up. He was 11 when the 1st movie came out.

The Filoni story about meeting George Lucas was great - as was his discussion of the father/son thread that runs through the first six movies. I get the impression Dave doesn't think much of the latest trilogy, although he would never say that on a Disney show.

Re: Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian (Disney+) -- docuseries -- premieres 5/4/20

This latest ep was great and when it ended I was like wait...what, that was too fast because I could have listened to the directors/producers/actors behind the scenes stories all day long. This behind-the-scenes peek behind the curtain has turned out to as enjoyable an experience as watching the actual The Mandalorian episodes. Learning why/how Gina and Carl were cast and what could have been with Carl's character was a neat bit of info to provide to the audience.

Between this and Prop Culture I am starting to understand why some fans of Disney+ look forward to the docu type shows almost just as much as original content. I am dying to see the new Marvel stuff but if we keeping getting these glimpses behind the curtain than that is more than enough to tide me over until the Marvel stuff hits much later this year.

Re: The Mandalorian -- Star Wars -- News, rumors, etc. -- possible spoilers

The documentary series they're doing on Disney+ (Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian) is well-worth the watch, particularly if you're a fan of Star Wars generally as opposed to just The Mandalorian. Dave Filoni says some stuff at the end of episode 2 that gave me a newfound appreciation for the prequel trilogy.

I think a lot of fans can reflect back and see there was a worthy story to tell with the prequels but the execution wasn't that great. Filoni has made the prequel era material at least somewhat better by filling in some of the blanks.

Filoni is really good. He seems to have a plan and vision equal to Lucas'... not sure it'll translate to movies but I'd be willing to give him a shot.

I didn’t know much about Filoni but he made me a fan with that monologue. I’d feel perfectly comfortable with him in charge of Star Wars.

I've been enjoying this series as a look into the future of filmmaking. Favreau has seemed to push technology beyond what Cameron is doing on Avatar.

Re: Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian (Disney+) -- docuseries -- premieres 5/4/20

I just watched the last episode...so sad this was the last episode as this behind the scenes peek into Star Wars was fantastic. Hopefully, Jon Favreau will be so inclined to create a season 2 making off documentary. We can get a whole new batch of folks to take a seat at the round table and hear their stories.

This is a pretty cool video of the composer scoring the series in a video.

This will return for a second season on Dec. 25.
There’s some internet talk that there will be one for the Marvel shows too.

Apparently, this will only be an hour long special, not multiple episodes.

Re: Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian (Disney+) -- docuseries -- premieres 5/4/20

I'm guessing with the pandemic it would have been much harder to make a series out of season 2, especially doing a director/creator roundtable. So they probably decided to streamline it to 1 hour.

They already did a great job explaining most of the technical aspects the first time, so it makes sense to have just a general overview of season 2 covering story and character arcs.

Yeah, same thoughts here. As good as the first season was, they covered everything. I could see a two episode season going forward though(after Covid). A general "making of..." And a second episode for a Director's round table.

Re: Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian (Disney+) -- docuseries -- premieres 5/4/20

I am just glad we are getting a behind the scenes overview of Season 2, as I have come to realize that folks are right in that most things have been covered with the Season 1 behind the scenes series. I will take one episode over none and it will be fun to watch this on Christmas Day (probably earlier in the day, as I am reserving my evening to sit down and watch Wonder Woman 1984, a rare film I will watch with full attention to the screen as I will not be using my tablet and watching in the background, not for an event film like this one).

Re: Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian (Disney+) -- docuseries -- premieres 5/4/20

I did watch the season 2 making of documentary yesterday. It definitely wasn't as thorough as the 1st one did with 8 episodes. This one basically gave an overview of production of season 2. They had a camera crew shooting the behind the scenes content while filming was going on, so all the interviews were on set.

Still a very worthy watch.

Re: Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian (Disney+) -- docuseries -- premieres 5/4/20

I watched the Season 2 Making-Of. It was kind of interesting, but certainly didn't have the meat that the multi-episode format for Season 1 had. This played more like a "group hug" EPK than a substantive making-of to me. There were some interesting bits though still, like

Robert Rodriguez' action figure animatic - that was awesome!

I thought it was also an interesting choice that they

What we got was good, but I really miss the round table. Of course, not really possible this time.
Surprised nothing was discussed about the Luke scene. Maybe they didn’t allow any BTS filming of that so it had no chance to leak.

Looks like the finale is getting it’s own episode.

Sweet. The second season originally only getting a single episode was kind of a bummer.

I love that I finally feel like Star Wars is in good hands with Favreau and Filoni, the reverence is apparent.

Seeing Favreau getting choked up about seeing R2 was endearing.

Though I think they over did it with the technology of face replacement for Luke. I don't know if it's the Lola or that they used today's Hamill instead of the deep fake. His mouth movements still seem flat and robotic. Especially since they created Luke's voice electronically.
