Carrie Anne Moss kicking ass again and in a Star Wars show? Fuck yeah, I'm in.

At least it "looks" better than Obi-wan and Boba and by "looks" I mean literally. It looks like they used actual sets (probably didn't) but at least it's a step up from the AOTC level CG like those other shows.

Re: Star Wars: The Acolyte (Disney+) -- news, rumors, etc.

It will have a few characters from The High Republic stories but the director said that you don’t need to be versed in THR to know what’s going on.

Vernestra Rhow was a teenage Jedi Knight in THR and will be an adult in TA.

She’s the green skinned Mirialan (an alien race with a lifespan of 65-200 years) that walks into the Younglings’ room… she’s got a lightsaber that was modded to a lightwhip. I’m excited to see how she ties in.

She’s about 100 years old in TA.

Rumors are that Plo Koon might pop up in this show too.

I'm not going to over-analyze barely 2 minutes of footage.

Am I interested?, Sure. We'll see how it goes. It's something to watch this summer.

Looks great. Jedis and lightsabers are my favorite things about Star Wars so I’m in!

Cut a little slack for the shows that did their best under pandemic protocols that limited their options

Agreed on Carrie Anne Moss, she looked so at ease doing those moves. And it's been revealed that they didn't use "The Volume" (those big image screens) at all in The Acolyte. So either real sets or real locations.

And personally I'm stoked, it'll be great to see Jedi in action closer to their "prime", before the Dark side started clouding everything in the prequel era.

Apparently the episodes are super short. The showrunner revealed the episode lengths:

https://movieweb.com/star-wars-acoly...imes-revealed/

"About 30 minutes, yeah. I would say some of them are a little bit longer, like the finale, I think it's 40 minutes. But there are also some that I think are barely 30 minutes. On average, I would say somewhere between like 30-35 [minutes]."

That's interesting, I'm thinking more of the way it's shot.. I see the same mid tones with no real contrast or depth in the compositions of the frames. It's that filtered look that I imagine is used to make blending the elements easier. Unfortunately it also takes a lot of character and creativity out of the camerawork - this dates back to Return of the Jedi, it's my main issue with that film using so many more static matte painting shots.

Just saw a Thread that pointed out this trailer now has more dislikes than likes on YouTube. I continue to have no idea what “Star Wars fans” actually want.

How would anyone know? YT doesn't show a number for dislikes anymore.

Might have something to do with this... Sith in the High Republic era. And I wouldn't discount the far right hate either.

There are extensions to show dislikes but can they really be trusted to be accurate?

There are extensions that are supposed to be fairly accurate.

Re: Star Wars: The Acolyte (Disney+) -- news, rumors, etc.

Speaking of stats... how do they get this? The video says "7,451,987 views"

Released yesterday, the trailer for The Acolyte garnered 51.3 million views in its first 24 hours. This is a new digital-only record for any Lucasfilm Disney+ series, surpassing every trailer for The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Ahsoka. We’re grateful for your support, and can’t wait for you to experience the series.

They probably added up the total views from all platforms. YT, Twitter, IG...etc.

Re: Star Wars: The Acolyte (Disney+) -- news, rumors, etc.

The other thing I read is that there are no white male characters shown in the trailer, which I didn't even notice the first time I watched it.

These people need to get out of their bubbles. I live in the Chicago suburbs, my office has a lot of white folks sure, but it also has a lot of "everything but white" folks and that's probably why I didn't notice that in the trailer - the multi ethnic look just reflected my reality.

The other thing that puzzles me is the people saying it doesn't look good, and I can't sort that out at all. It looks like all the other SW shows.

Yeah, Star Wars is a flashpoint in their culture war, so they're going to come out in force against this one because of the involvement of Headland and Stenberg.

The Likes/Dislikes for this one are running about 158,000 to 303,000. Makes me wonder if there actually 300,000 of them, or just a much smaller number making multiple youtube accounts to bomb the numbers. (I have a Firefox extension that lets me see YT dislikes.)

That's kind of the problem, isn't it? All of the other Star Wars shows -- outside of Andor and maybe the first two seasons of The Mandalorian -- have been absolute shit.

I'm pretty sure if there had been only the first Star Wars movie, but the fandom would have been the same, a lot of Star Wars fans wouldn't like Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, if released today.

If memory serves there was some backlash at the time for both of those movies as well.

Usually I respond to people complaining about new content "ruining" old content that the old content still exists and they are free to watch it instead, but Lucas actually DID destroy the "original" content.

Well, a true fan should have run down the despecialized editions by now.

Star Wars Fans: We want something outside of the Skywalker timeline!
Lucasfilm: We got you. Here is The Acolyte!
Star Wars Fans: Not that

Damned if you do. Damned if you don't.

Unfortunately I think for the universe to move on this show needs to succeed to prove that content out of that 60 year Skywalker era is marketable and Star Wars fans are too fickle to see that. Then we'll be back to cramming even more backstory into the overcrowded era with even more shows and movies.
