Tales from the Loop (Amazon) premieres 4/3/20

Inspired by the wondrous paintings of Simon Stålenhag, Tales from the Loop explores the mind-bending adventures of the people who live above the Loop, a machine built to unlock and explore the mysteries of the universe - making things previously relegated to science fiction, possible.

Couldn't find a thread for this and plan to binge it this weekend so here we are.

3 episodes in. Kind of an anthology series where a minor character in one story becomes the main character in the next story. Stories are average scifi done well so far. Visually wonderful if you like the painting series that inspired it and I do. Very slow moving.

I've loved Stålenhag's paintings since I first stumbled upon them a few years ago, so I'll check this out if only for the visuals.

This article brought me here to check if there was a thread. I'm gonna start watching it tonight.

How Amazon turned Simon Stålenhag’s ‘Tales from the Loop’ into a TV show

Re: Tales from the Loop (Amazon) premieres 4/3/20

I’m 5 episodes into this and really enjoying it. It has an interesting format where it’s not quite an anthology, but also doesn’t follow a main character. Every episode has a different main character, and all these characters are connected to each other and show up in other episodes.
It’s a very earnest show in that it doesn’t have that gloomy dystopian feel that so much sci-fi has today, which is a nice change. And the mysterious anachronistic tech is a backdrop but never the primary focus; it tells very human stories.
The first episode is a good representation of what to expect from the other 7.

Finished up the series this morning - enjoyed it quite a bit. I imagine the relatively slow pacing will frustrate some, but the storytelling is really well done.

I'm halfway through this. Surprised there isn't a little more discussion about this series. I'd never heard of Simon Stålenhagm, but it's pretty cool how a series can be inspired by a single artist's work. I love how all the weird sci-fi objects are hanging out in scenes with barely any acknowledgement and explanation.

I loved the first three episodes, felt that #4 & #5 dropped off quite a bit, but then the remainder were pretty good. Overall, really worth watching, I love the tone of it.
(The feel reminded me a bit of the movie 'Arrival', one of my favorite sci-fi movies of recent memory.)
