Run (HBO) - S: Domhnall Gleeson, Merrit Wever, EP: Waller-Bridge, Jones - premieres 4/12/20

Written and produced by Vicky Jones, HBO's new half-hour comedy series RUN, debuting SUNDAY, APRIL 12 (10:30-11:00 p.m. ET/PT), follows a woman whose humdrum life is thrown upside down when she receives a text from her college sweetheart inviting her to drop everything and meet him in New York to fulfill the pact they made 17 years earlier. The series will also be available on HBO NOW, HBO GO, HBO On Demand and partners' streaming platforms. Starring Emmy(R) winner Merritt Wever ("Godless," "Nurse Jackie") and Domhnall Gleeson ("Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker," "Ex Machina"), RUN is a romantic comedic thriller about a woman, Ruby Richardson (Wever) who walks away from her ordinary life in the suburbs to revisit her past with her college boyfriend, Billy Johnson (Gleeson), with whom she made a pact 17 years prior that if either one of them texted the word "RUN" and the other replied with the same, they would drop everything and meet in Grand Central Station and travel across America together.

· Phoebe Waller-Bridge as Flick

Haha. I was just wondering what she was up to and ran across this show. I'll definitely be checking it out.

I’ve been seeing this on the hbo coming soon forever but never looked into what it was about.
Sounds really interesting.

Wonder why he has to Run.

When I saw the title I was hoping this was a reboot of the Patrick Dempsey/Kelly Preston 1991 classic movie. Oh well, I am disappoint.

Premieres tonight. Looking forward to this and glad to see Merrit Wever being the lead in a show.

It wasn't what I expected (I saw no previews, didn't even read the description at the top of the thread), but it was OK. Light entertainment and interesting enough to give it a few episodes. Hopefully over time there is a little more there there.

I started watching this because I recently became a big fan of Wever, after seeing her in 'Marriage Story' and especially 'Unbelievable'. 'Run' was interesting and fun at first, but its already wearing a bit thin for me. I'm sure I'll finish out the season, as they're only 30 minute episodes, and only three remaining. But its not quite the show I hoped it might be.

It's amazing how quickly this show jumped the shark damn near literally the last episode. It may be redeemed with the additional cast member from the previews but as much as I like Merrit the show is not holding up well after what 3 episodes maybe 4?

Definitely enjoy it as part of our "light and quirky" fare. Wife and I fans of Phoebe and this has some of her trademark wit/dialogue embedded throughout.

I know I'm being shallow, but I find the female lead entirely off-putting. And it makes it a tough sell that this guy would be the least bit interested in her. I keep thinking her husband caught a huge break.

I'm enjoying it. No, Merritt Wever isn't my type, either, but not to the extent that I would describe her as off-putting.

Nice to see Phoebe make an appearance, in the latest episode.

Also, OUCH!

I've just finished the sixth episode of the show. I'll watch the finale but the show's charm for me seems to wear off a bit more with each episode. Billy and Ruby become a little more unlikeable with each episode.

I don't think you're supposed to find either of them likeable. They both are pretty bad people but it doesn't make the show any less enjoyable.

That will vary with each viewer, I imagine. "Likeable" may not be the word I'm looking for, -perhaps it's "engaging". I'm just not sure if I want to hang with these people, -particularly Gleason's character, -and obviously the show is set up as a contraption to keep them on the road. We'll see.

Does this improve after the first episode, or is the material destined to be used as rehearsal material for acting students?

Seems like it was basically a handbook checking off “meeting someone from the past, you both know more than you’re letting on” material for an actor to practice with, but not necessarily for the audience.

I guess Phoebe Waller-Bridge is fallible after all. The season finale was also the series finale. Can’t say I’m surprised.

If that's the case, what a shitty ending. I know it's not their choice to end it there, so I don't blame them (although I thought the ending was a bit too abrupt, even for a season finale).

Of course, she (Phoebe) was only executive producer on this series.

The after-the-finale talk with the showrunner on EW's site mentions that the series has yet to be picked up, -not that it's been cancelled.

having watched the full run of the show I can honestly say its a waste of time and would not recommend it. 2.5 stars at best. pass on it even if you like PWB or Merrit. such a lame ending.

After giving up on the show after the first 4 episodes I have to ask, did they ever make it off the fucking train?

I smell a Run/Snowpiercer crossover!
