Re: Crisis on Infinite Earths (The CW) -- 5 part crossover event
So the whole point of this episode is to build to a death which we all know won't stick?

Yes I know Arrow still has a few more episodes left so that made you wonder if his death will really stick. |

Re: Crisis on Infinite Earths (The CW) -- 5 part crossover event
I thought the first episode was pretty decent. Liked hearing the Danny Elfman Batman theme, the Robery Wuhl cameo and the 66 Batman TV series theme with Burt Ward cameoing. The Burt Ward cameo was kind of a downer though since you know if Adam West was still alive he would have been up for it. Didn't care much for the Supergirl parts. Hopefully they keep Alex, Dreamer and everyone but J'onn and Superman out of the rest of the crossover. Oliver's death I wanted to have emotion for but I just kept thinking to myself there was no way that Amell will be sitting out the rest of the crossover so I could not get too emotionally invested. But looking forward to part 2.

Re: Crisis on Infinite Earths (The CW) -- 5 part crossover event
“The dilemma that we presented to our own selves was that we spoiled our own story,” Marc Guggenheim, who is showrunning the “Crisis” crossover, told reporters last week, following a screening of the first episode. “If Oliver dying isn’t the surprise, what is the surprise? The timing of him dying.”“We kind of figured the audience was expecting Oliver to die in the climax, in the fifth hour. If we went in the exact opposite direction, and killed him off at the end of hour one, we accomplished two things: Hopefully, we do surprise the audience, that’s absolutely the intention, but we also really establish the stakes.” Guggenheim argued that, if the first hour can kill off the flagship CW hero, “then no one is safe.” Beth Schwartz, “Arrow” showrunner, added that giving him an early death allowed them to give the other “Arrowverse” characters like The Flash and Supergirl a justifiable amount of time grieve. “It sets up really interesting stories and conflicts between all these characters,” she said. All these leads of these different shows, who have different ways of reacting to this tragedy, and [we] get to see them all grieve together.” |

Loved the episode. Interested to see if the Earths get reconstituted in some fashion or if not, the writers give some thought to reaction on Earth-1 when 3 billion people arrive via spaceships! (Some number of whom are aliens, as iirc Earth-38 was much more alien-centric than Earth-1)
Looking forward to tonight. Smithsguy |

Re: Crisis on Infinite Earths (The CW) -- 5 part crossover event
Wonder if they re-introduced the Earth-16 Ollie for a specific reason? A back up plan for future cameos or something.

There are two episodes of "Arrow" left. The ninth episode is supposed to be the "pilot" for the new Green Arrow/Canaries series. The last episode is titled "Fadeout". There's plenty of ways to use Oliver in these last episodes without undoing his death (flashbacks/alternate realities), but nothing would surprise me.
Spoiler:
This was an enjoyable first episode. I'll agree that Amell's performance was only so-so. He never really had much range as an actor and an emotional death scene was probably beyond his capability. I wish they had done just a little more with Burt Ward's appearance. It would have been awesome to see him in some sort of retro Batcave. Not a huge fan of how they've ripped off aspects of Superman and given them wholesale to Supergirl. |
Re: Crisis on Infinite Earths (The CW) -- 5 part crossover event
It would be nice if the CW would release these crossover events as individual “movie” type DVD’s or Blu-ray’s after they finish airing. This seems like it might be cool to own and rewatch, but I’d prefer a release of just the crossover episodes versus buying a random season of whichever show since while I like the shows I haven’t bought the seasons. I think the Elseworlds crossover episodes were all included on the releases for the most recent seasons of Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl.

Re: Crisis on Infinite Earths (The CW) -- 5 part crossover event
I am sure there is going to be a reset to events they occurred. Oliver can't be dead yet. Supergirl universe won't stay on Earth 1.

Cue the John Williams Superman theme.

Re: Crisis on Infinite Earths (The CW) -- 5 part crossover event
If they want to talk surprises they should have left Superman and Lois dead on Argo, because I thought that’s what totally happened. It was even more of a gut punch because they assumed the role of Kal-El’s parents from Superman’s origin. Then of course they had to undo it.
Who was the guy flying with a gold helmet? If I understood the Monitor, Arrow’s deal was really only good for last year’s crossover?! That’s just messed up! Also, based on these deaths from Earth’s getting wipe out, I’m envisioning that happening to Welling and Durance. Pop in - “oops wrong Earth. Our bad. Totally the wrong Superman we’re looking for. Apparently you’ll be no help, so we’ll be on our way. Oh, PS, your universe is about to be wiped from existence. Toodles!” |

I geeked out with Conroy playing Bruce Wayne in this. He’s the voice I hear when I read Batman books

Re: Crisis on Infinite Earths (The CW) -- 5 part crossover event
So Routh’s Superman is actually the one from the his Superman Returns movie? I mean, he mentioned Jason, his son in the movie, at the end of tonight’s episode.

Re: Crisis on Infinite Earths (The CW) -- 5 part crossover event
Watching Routh as Clark Kent again made me wish Superman Returns had been both a better movie and more successful.

(Oh and that was definitely supposed to be the Reeves/Superman Returns Earth. He mentions having fought himself once before, presumably in Superman 3) |
